  • haha way out of here has to be my favourite off fear of a blank planet.. such a good solo

  • "Don't know this one"...Was like =O Mikael...you are missin out =P. And he can't pronounce Anesthetize , that made me laugh =). I love that Porcupine Tree and Opeth are my 2 favourite bands , and Mikael's favourite band is PT and one of Steven Wilson's favourites is Opeth XD

  • He couldn't remember way out of here? Coz that's an awesome track.

  • Don't know why I feel that ROADRUNERS was holding a gun for him to say that, "this my third favorite album".

If you don't buy that album, mike will appear and say this shit again, so go buy it!!!

  • This part is hilarious.

  • I'm new to PT, but I liked opeth so I was recommended it. Thanks Mikael Akerfeldt cause I will be checking out those other albums you mentioned :)

  • I wonder what he thought about The Incident. I wish I could hear Akerfeldt review every album ever.

  • Mikael Akerfeldt reviewing Fear of a Blank Planet. classic.

but... how can he forget about Way Out of Here? it's the best vocals in the album

  • @46n2idiots My favorite is Sleep Together

  • i'd love to hear mikael singing "LETS SLEEP TOGETHER, RIGHT NOW" growling

  • @benjadestok Haha, great comment. THAT would be a big turn-on for any girl, I guess ^^

  • Sentimental!!!!!!!!!!! so beautiful from the anesthetize dvd

  • Im into Tool, Isis, Enslaved, and Mastodon. Any suggestions as to which PT album I should start with? (If any, lol)

  • @stormshadow2k seeing as you like those bands, it's obvious to me that you like good music. I used to be big into metal, still am, but less so, and PT is what changed that for me. but what eased me outta the metal roots was Fear of a blank planet. it's not a metal record, it's great music with small bursts of metal every now and again. so yea. get that one

  • @stormshadow2k Tool Is my favorite band, and when I heard "Fear of a Blank Planet" for the first time I was skeptical but It blew me away, so start with that one. I also listened "In Absentia" and "Deadwing" after that, and those were great too. Their newest "The Incident" was amazing also.

  • @stormshadow2k

Well, even though you seem to be "musically mature", I'd recommend either In Absentia or Fear of a Blank Planet.

  • @stormshadow2k definitely In absentia. You really see the metal/prog rock influence. Then u can go to Fear of a Blank Planet

  • I'd love to hear his thoughts on 'The Incident' too.

  • Wasnt mr Akerfeldt and mr Wilson and mr Portnoy of DT rumoured to do a band together in the future?

  • @Spotfarm666 I'm not sure if Portnoy is in on it anymore, but Wilson and Akerfeldt are due to release an album sometime in 2011 and right now the working title for said album is "Storm Corrosion".

  • @NWG92 Jeesussssssss

where did you find such awesomeness news?

  • @Spotfarm666 Go to twitter dot come slash PTOfficial ...I've known for a while now thanks to that and you'll definitely want to favorite that website as they update it a few times a day

  • @NWG92 Wow that's amazing news! And i'm glad that Portnoy's out of the picture :)

  • @NWG92 Portnoy isn't in on the project as of now, atleast thats what I read on ultimate-guitar

  • All the way through "Way out of Here" I was shoutin' the song title at the screen. IT ISNT BLACKFIELD MIKAEL! Haha.

Probably my favourite album aswell... Porcupine Tree just keep releasing ingenious CD's. Who knows where its gonna' end... Maybe it doesnt have to, Steven Wilson seems immortal enough.

  • im partial to stupid dream. but hey, they're all great

  • he said when lisinin to sentimental that he doesnt remember lisinin to this song and at the end he said he likes my ashes, anesthesizeand sentimental but i guess he wanted to say fear of a blank planet :D,any way opeth is my all time band and i just cant stop lisinin to porupine tree!! \m/

  • @fakesism No, the one he didn't remember was Way Out of Here.

  • Way Out of Here = Anesthetize > Sentimental > Fear of a Blank Planet > My Ashes > Sleep Together, IMO. But I like them all a lot and Way Out/Anes/Senti I love so much.

  • I love how he uses the word "superb"

  • In Absentia is overrated. Its good but not great. Up the Downstair is great. FOABP is great. Signify is great.

I think i heard somewhere that mikaels favorite PT song is A Smart Kid.

  • lol..can't remember way out of here?? lol ur funny mikael

  • 'go down as a classic' - I'll agree with that. All PT albums are genius, but this album is just a masterpiece - the perfect album.

  • LOL Mikaels funny

  • stupid dream is an amazing album.

  • lol, he thought it was Richard doing the intro noises to ''Way Out''. try Robert Fripp, Mikael. ;P

  • @P0mt3 leave him alone, a good assumption to make...such a big fun should have read the booklet, though

  • @P0mt3 big fan even

  • That´ s a fan! :D

  • way outta here is phenomenal! i love it! and sleep together's also amazing! its got some heavy riffs =) this album was the first pt record i heard. i just went =O

i remember thinking 'omg the drummer uses ride bells as splashes!' about gavin's chimes x) - amazing =D

  • lol im the same way with Way Out of Here, I couldn't remember how it went until the chorus bursts outta nowhere. more songs should do what that one does, the introduction sounds very different from the rest of the song

  • omg his favourites are the same as mine :D

  • Me too.

  • The ONLY problem with prog rock/metal is that I have to listen to album about 3 times to digest it all.

  • How is that a bad thing?

  • Because there are so many other albums I still need to listen as well. Really hard to fit them all in.

  • Too bad. ANy real sophisticated music takes time to sink in. You shouldn't be seeking out easily-digestible music simply for convenience sake. You should be glad when an album takes a long time to make sense to your ears.

  • That's not a problem. :)

I have records I've had for many years, and I still enjoy them. They never cease to amaze me!

  • the reason mikhael wouldn't have known way out of here is because it was added into the album very last minute - he would've heard cheating the polygraph (on nil recurring) instead as he'd have heard it pre-release, as that was the song originally slated to be in way out of here's position

  • fear of a blank planet is probably the best album ever

and i own every pink floyd and am a huge fan of them

  • God, I love PT...

  • @tomnevati Oh Jesus I love Opeth

  • I think the album had just come out not to long before that so it's understandable that he doesn't remember everything also these songs are ment to be played in full he probally went back to them and was like I remember this song it's amazing especially for way out of here

  • well shit when i listen to music now adays I hardly look at the song names a lot of the times. I just go by albums

  • Way Out Of Here~

  • Collapse The Light Into Earth

  • Funny then to think that he's the same death metal singer that brought you vocals from the depths of hell! xD

  • I love his voice, it's not only mellow and calming as you guys said but it's also very powerful.

  • I love listening to this guy talk

  • In Absentia and Stupid Dream are my favourite 2 PT albums as well. Yay.

  • Mikael is the best...also Opeth and PT are one of the greatest bands ever...

  • I also love Anesthetize and Sentimental..I'm glad Mikael agrees XD

  • Sentimental is one of the best track of this record..it moves me a lot!

  • THAT IS WHY I LIKE Mikael Akerfeldt HE IS SOUCH AND HONEST GUY...

  • I'm pretty sure if Mikeal hears Way Out Of Here, it'll eiether replace My Ashes, or Sentimental.

  • Funny how he can't remember Way Out of Here at all, and a bit strange because if the chorus was produced a little differently (and MÅ was singing), it could just as easily be a mid-mellow section on Watershed or Damnation.

Anyway I definitely think it's above My Ashes and Sentimental on this album, though both are great songs in their own right, to be sure.

  • Fear of a Blank Planet is my favorite Porcupine Tree album and it is in my top 10 fav albums of all time.

  • Lol, let the man listen to the song FFS.

  • I think he said blackfield. A steven wilson side project

  • I love both bands

  • Background music is too loud you ass.

  • Ya know what I think? I think both PT and Opeth are two of my favorite bands XD

  • @romanblood Me too. Proud to be a Porcupeth.

  • @romanblood : Completely agree. I'm a Porcupeth, and proud of it! Mikael and Steven are geniuses.

  • @romanblood same here

  • What band did he say it reminds him of? blackfeet?

  • no no, blackfield.

  • yes! thats great! im a huge opeth fan and i love porcupine tree too. so it's just amazing they work together. And yes, that cd is just kick ass.

  • Hell yes. I always took Mike for an In Absentia nut. Just like me :3

  • He doesn't know the name... but he's so right!

  • The third song he couldn't say - Anesthetize is amazing .. easily the best song I've ever heard.

It's what makes me prefer PT over Opeth.

  • That's a matter of opinion

  • Yeh it's brilliant.

  • "Way Out Of Here" was the one of the last songs to be written and recorded for FoaBP. It's possible that, with Steven and Mikael being buddies, he heard the album before the song was actually included and realeased in the shops....

  • Yeh, he would of heard cheating the polygraph that was released on the nil recurring ep instead.

  • good thought

  • Man, that's kind of awkward when he can't remember hearing the song...but honestly it's not one of the better songs on that album. "The long song" is incredible though, some of the best PT yet.

  • "The Long Song" is awesome. I can't pronounce the name either.

  • i went and saw P/T last month and Steven Wilson pronounced it: anne(like the name)-ese(like plEASE)-the-tize.

  • Anne-ess-teh-tize

  • At least he is honest! lol

  • Way Out Of Here is my favourite on the album apart from "The Long Song"

  • Anesthetize! :P

  • totally, love that song. but tbh the whole album is composed of win!

  • Its awesome that most Opeth fans are alos PT Fans too :)

  • indeed !

  • Mikael is so funny on this video. From "This is a long song" to "I don't remember this song." Just his facial expressions crack me up. One of the smartest musicians out there though. Same with PT. Two of my favorite bands of all time.

  • XD @ Akerfeldt. "This is the long song, right? Yes, I ... don't know ... how to say ... hahaha"

    <3

  • PT+Opeth = indeed great. i love both bands. i do not think that it is a shame or something bad that mikael doesnt recognize every song. if you listen to so much music its nearly impossible to know every song by its name. but you can really see that he has listened to the CD more than just a few times. and anesthetize and sleep together are soooo beatiful songs *__*

  • so he doesn't recognize the song names, big deal. prog rock makes it hard to recognize which song ure listening to sometimes. the blend in so well.

  • looove anesthetise

  • i think he's doing steven wilson a big favor here it sounds like he's heard the album once before

  • Right on. Porcupine Tree deserves so much more recognition then they have gotten.

  • ROFL, and I thought to myself "dude, this band sounds like Opeth" and I THOUGHT THAT WHEN I HEARD THAT EXACT TRACK they play at the beginning of this video.

  • Pointless...

One of his top three PT albums and he even forgot one song?

  • Well maybe he heard some demos on which "Way Out Of Here" hadn't replaced the former "Track 5" from the tour...

Still, that would mean that, if he bought the album, he didn't listen to it...

  • PT+opeth=great

  • Porcupine Tree and Opeth are both great. I also think Pain Of Salvation (sort of similar to PT in a way) is great but somehow I never really got into them =\

  • i actually love "my ashes."

  • Porcupine tree + Opeth = Pure AWESOME!

  • this is the firt song of the new Porcupine album !

  • That riff they play in the intro of each video,

    Kinda Opeth rip-off eh?

Aybody knows wich song its from?

  • The title track from Fear of a Blank Planet

  • Awesome, Katatonia, Opeth, Porcupine Tree all awesome... "Sleep Together" is one of my favorites...as is the first track.

  • I think "Way Out of Here" is the best song on the album; too bad he forgot it.

  • Nah, Anesthetise followed by Fear Of A Blank Planet, before Way Out Of Here comes along.

  • sup jack

  • YESS!

  • hehe P:
