Lying is normal. It's the type of lying we should worry about. Lying about whether a certain color looks nice on someone shouldn't be considered on par with lying and stealing people's life savings.
It's been shown, too, in studies that habitually honest people (Ie: The type who won't even tell white lies) tend to be very unpopular.
@vampiricconure you're absollutely right. I despise lies & refuse to tell even white lies, and it has almost always been a handicap for me. But I can't help it, for me lies are almost as viscerally disgusting and intolerable as pedophilia or other things that are generally regarding as viscerally repulsive. Luckily, some friends appreciate my honesty.
What's ironic is that many people perceive my honesty as a form of manipulation, like I have a strange agenda behind my 'unusual' behviour.
09:22 These are 2 lies... 1 - "Self deception is important to our mental health", 2 - "Self deception is normal."
They are lies because they directly fuel shame wich leads to poor self esteem, that then leads to the need to compensate and lie again. And he says that it is normal...
Did Harper fund this to make himself look better? What kind of prime minister deliberately misrepresents the way the parliamentary system works to the public? We deserve honesty, not propaganda from politicians. I did not like this documentary. Much more fluff than cbc's usual standards. The value of honesty is something many people learn at a very young age. I once told a fib to impress peers when I was about ten and did not like the feeling. I have perhaps been too honest ever since.
Wow. An network that encourages people to committ adultery instead of to go home with his or her spouse. I don't care what they said about it just being a "service" and not encouraging infidelity...They're encouraging adultery!

It's normal because it's human nature. He never ONCE said it was ok or acceptable, just that it was normal.

Human nature has been blinded by fear of rejection.
Lying is not normal because it is denial of either ourselves or others.
Lying is use for survival because one does not have the knowledge to be otherwise.
Still not normal but actually abnormal.

I'm pretty sure professors just said the opposite...
