  • AWFUL !!!

Hey, Chris! Stick to the bass.

And the lyrics..? My 10 years old son, have better ones than this. I wonder what were Anderson's thoughts when Squire brought 'em to his attention (probably "haven't you learned anything from me during all these years...?"

Thank you for posting. It's rare, right..... RARE PIECE OF SHIT!!

(I never thought saying this about a song of my fav band)

But well, is a Squire's song, (not my fav person after what he did to Jon)

  • Get out your tinfoil hats lol. This is probably their funniest song. They should have used it as an intro for Arriving UFO :p

  • This is not the music that grew out of psychedelic rock. Perhaps I am turning on my masters, but I say it's time for a change! I am sure we ALL know about Moogs and Maestro pedals and horseshoe pickups and 11-8 time signatures and harmonic experimentation and generally getting musical instruments to do things they weren't designed to do by now. If prog is going to be pulled out of the fire, we're going to have to do it ourselves! Come on people, who's with me?!

  • Absolutely Awful !

  • THE WORST YES SONG OF ALL-TIME...A DISGRACE TO THE BRAND NAME--YES!!!

  • NOT YES! but ok, but NOT YES!

  • I've never liked Chris Squire as a lead singer but he is particularly bad here. I was looking forward to hearing the future Hackett/Squire album, but I'm not so sure now. My first red flag was when Squire was praising Hackett as a good singer. Well, compared to this, he is!

Interesting concept though: Aliens are only us from the future.

  • I love YES. But this makes me cringe.

  • What a very sad end to the band I love most 8-((

Bring back Jon before its too late !

  • Squire has a son called Cameron who is around 10 years old........wasnt the song Aliens from the Buggles/Yes period from the early 80s?

  • There is a perfect good explanation for this song. Chris Squire's son wrote it for a talent show in middle school. It is pure and unassuming.

  • this is very depressing.what a horrible and "b" category song.i think id rather hear "wonderlove" before this.i understand that creativity my reach a standstill, but,we kinda hit a brick wall here...

  • dude I went to the 'In The Present' tour in my

town, and they didn't play this, unfortunatley, The

best song they played was Close to the Edge,

but this song rocks dude!!! favorited ^_^

  • I like the song. It has nothing to do with Yes, was just an addition to a concert full of YES songs, and while of course Mr. Squire doesn't sing nearly as beautiful as Jon Anderson, he contributed much more to Yes than many people may know. In fact, it's true, without Anderson Yes wouldn't be Yes - but most surely the same is true for Chris Squire and his outstanding skills as a musician and composer.

  • Oh....my.

  • I'm a Yes fan since 1972. I do remember Drama..."I see a man in a white car..." That was a piece of twaddle.

Chris may be an innovator, but the essential core of Yes music is the high themes that lift the listener up with the combination of pure musicianship and vocal qualities impossible to achieve without Jon Anderson.

MOST of the music you enjoy as "Yes" would NOT exist without Jon! Yes, some of his ideas aren't realistic, but if you want true Yes music, Jon's personality comes along.

  • @markkens Chris Squire did not write White Car, it was The Buggles that did. Jon's personality isn't music.

  • Uhm am i the only person who remebwer a yes album called Drama. Benoit does a dam good job. Yes is not Jon and a lot of jon's ideas (acoustic tour and orchestra) are stupid to say the least. He's a good singer but his time with yes is done and frankly yes should move on. i mean come on Jon wants to write a rap opera and you guys are still taking him seriously. Rap opera!

  • @DannyKisawesome

Man, I saw the tour with the orchestra in Milan. It was the best show I've ever seen, I can assure you. That was a GREAT idea.

And the acoustic tour? In my opinion it was a GREAT idea too. A different and more intimate perspective on Yes' music.

Jon Anderson is a master of music.

I knew about the "rap opera" idea. It's just a musical path... I respect that man, and you should too.

We'll talk about it when (and if) the rapo opera comes out.

    ^^

  • I've been a Yes fan since 1975. Although I think the perfect lineup is Anderson, Howe, Squire, White and Wakeman, I enjoyed the In The Present Tour. I saw them twice. I got to hear 3 songs that I never thought I would get to hear live - Tempus Fugit, Machine Messiah and Astral Traveler. Benoit did a great job and the band was tight (as always). They could have been more diplomatic about touring w/out Jon but its too late for that. Maybe they'll work it out in 2009.

  • P.S. - Calling a band Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant as the lead singer is along the same lines as this bullshit. Maybe this guy can be their lead singer too! (lol) :)

  • Hey, "man"... coincidence...

    "Led Zeppelin Karaoke Adventure (HiQ)"

Start practising!!! (or at least watch it)

  • avs002: Your videos are great! I hope you weren't being sarcastic with me. I wasn't being negative about your videos - just my dismay about the current so-called Yes line-up. I've never missed a Yes tour with Jon Anderson, and it was difficult to pass on this show in NYC, as I always loved Howe, Squire & White(though Bruford a little more). This song is nice, and at least Chris is singing, and not the coverboy lead singer, who probably knows less about the meaning of Jon's lyrics than I.

  • All I can say is these guys have a lot of nerve to charge YES prices to see them play music that in no way can be genuine without the true spiritual VOICE of the band, Jon Anderson! They just played NYC, and the ad for the show was SO misleading, as it had YES in big letters, with the names of the remaining members in small writing-It said "Steve Howe, Chris Squire & Alan White(of YES)." I love these guys, but can't believe they sold out YES fans. This tour belongs in a small club for $20!

  • I think $20.00 is quite expensive to see this joke-show, simply pathetic

  • I've now seen the videos with the "You Tube" lead singer from the show I passed up in NYC. I also watched an interview with this talented fugazi. He said he began listening to YES in 1994! He might have the SOUND down, but he has no clue what Jon Anderson was writing about, thus could never bring the true SPIRIT which was once YES to a live show.Jon Anderson and The Paul Green School of Rock kids had a purer interpretation of the music, and good tix were well worth the $40.Nous Sommes du Soleil!

  • From Jon pt.1

"I truly feel reborn, feeling better and stronger each day, and its gonna take some months (probably six months), but I plan to do some shows with new music. Because, apart from my recent health problems, the reason I hadn't agreed to tour with yes in many years was the lack of new music. With no new music - a lack of passion for music, really, as well as each other - and no real sense of what Yes truly is, etc., things just looked bleak to me."

  • From Jon pt.2

"In the past, there had been too many tours, too much pressure from outside of the band to keep those tours going, and we were not communicating as a band. This had made it impossible for Yes to progress as it should."

  • From Jon pt.3

"Thats why I suggested a break: to explore new ideas and attempt a different approach to writing and playing; maybe do a semi-acoustic CD, and then tour in a completely different manner; do less shows per year, but make the shows more innovative and truly special just reinvent ourselves.

Both Rick and myself could see it happening, but sadly the others just wanted to keep going down that same old touring spiral, and I think that the fans (and the band!) deserve much better."

  • From Chris himself...

"I wanted to do this one new song, which is one of the songs that Ive been working on with Steve Hackett. The version that I do with Yes on stage is a very different version that features Oliver Wakeman on keyboards. Its a song not heard before, called Aliens Are Only Us From the Future."

I hope people can now just enjoy the music, instead of fuming about it. I have my own long standing opinions about Yes, too, of course - but so does everyone else here.

  • avs002: My comments have nothing to do with YOUR videos. You do a really good job and am grateful to see your work. To be honest, I don't mind hearing Chris Squire singing his own material. What I disagree with is using the YES name to promote this "present" tour. There is no YES without Jon, who I really believe cares most about the true loyal fans. Hope he makes it back to share more positive energy with us! "Soon, oh soon the light!"

  • With all due respect, this is no more than a confirmation of the decadence of this band, a huge lack of creativity, this new guy is the worst decision ever (Trevor Horn looks excellent from here), it is a shame to see how YES have been reduced to shadows since 1996. R.I.P. YES

  • I may be wrong, after only 1 listen, but doesn't sound like the melody is quite worked out to fit the chords young Wakeman is playing, as if Squire chooses a half note flat at some points... or maybe it's intentional... The song doesn't expand much from where it begins... a work in progress I take it. The song's message suits the eerie/dreary atmosphere that's created. ...This one's not intended to sparkle. Nice visuals.

  • As far as I know this isn't an actual Yes song. Its a song by Squire thats going to be in his collaboration song with Plant sed to come this summer. It reminds me very much of his previous solo album "Fish Out Of Water" that came out during the mid 70's. That explains why this doesn't really sound Yes.

  • I thought it was a collaboration with Steve Hackett. I didn't know Squire was working with Robert Plant.

  • I'm sorry, my bad. You are right ofcourse. Its a collaboration with Hackett, nothing to do with Plant. Somehow I mixed the names.

  • Very disappointing. I mean Jon's lyrics sometimes get a little bizarre, but this is just plain crazy. The music sounds nice but it is not Yes. I never thought I would say this but I feel bad for these guys.

  • NOTE: "Astral Traveller (2008)" (with remixed sound) is the official video respose to this.

  • I can only think of the saying, "just because you can doesn't mean you should". They should have stay home instead of tour. This is positively dreadful.

  • Nice Yes font. I wonder if this is a sign of what may come from Yes if Jon A isn't able to get back on the team? or maybe it'll be the sort of thing that'll turn up on a Squire Howe White CD. Nice vocal arrangement - just what you'd expect from Yes choirmaster Chris S. I wonder what the source of the lyric is?

  • Dreadful song. Embarrassing to me as a long-time Yes fan.

  • I'm tossing as to whether do Astral Traveller now - as it's the best of the other songs they do/did. But the recording is a bit rough...

  • @chutch15 Oh dear....I am a die hard Yes fan too...and I disagree...Even if Chris sounds a bit flat at times I think it is a beautiful song and VERY YES.

  • Great lyrics Chris....

I'd rather have a passport to HEll.

  • I really like this. This isn't a decent recording! Those of you who are complaining should give it a chance hearing it LIVE or recorded in a studio! I've heard from those who have heard this live say it's real good.

  • Well, this song is getting a lot of polarised opinion, as I knew it would (luckily no-one's complained about the video). Here's my take:

I like the song, even if it's a bit weak - and the chorus melody is just the bass-line from the middle of Roundabout. The message of the song is uplifting, and Chris sings it well.

I listened briefly to the entire concert recording, before starting work on this - and was not impressed. But Yes live (in any form) floats a lot of people's boats around here!!

  • I agree with aboblyndsae. This stinks. Point of reference: I'm a huge Yes fan, with an entire bookcase full of Yes official releases and bootlegs. I have the option of seeing the non-Yes Yes this Sunday, and I'm really uninclined. I'd be embarrassed to send this to someone to try and impress them with Yes music. But thanks to avs002 for posting this.

  • Good to hear a new song after five years ("Show Me" was on the last compilation).

  • Wow, this is bad. So bad it's making me reconsider going to see them this December.

That said, I appreciate your uploading this and making the video.

  • Wonderful! Great vocals, Chris. Honestly, I think Chris should sing lead for the WHOLE SET! Bravo Chris!!

  • Bravo Chris !!

  • THANK YOU SIR. First new Yes material in since Magnification (well technicly there was some new like Show Me but still). Hopefully there will be more and no cover *** but with the man - JON!

  • Thanks - I think anything close will do, myself. Nothing to stop Jon sharing the vocals - to ease the burden. And that definitely sounds like a "real" Wakeman on keys.

But isn't the story that Rick was prevented (under contract) from recording with Yes when he rejoined back in '02? I'ts a pity, either way - esp. when you look at the combined "solo" output of the 5 over that time.
