i recently bought an iMac and i'm in love with it. i never owned any apple product besides an ipod and i didn't realized what i was missing until now lol. the last time i used a Mac for any amount of time was about 8 years ago, and only for a few minutes. did you ever get a Mac by any chance?
1) Try using that Mac of yours to reduce some of the noise in your audio recording.
2) It's not just games, it carries over to the entire software library. Windows has a far greater amount of programs as the most widely used operating system.
3) I can think of another reason besides games, price. Apple sells products that cater to specific niches, and carry a premium price. The average consumer doesn't need an ultra-portable or All-in-One.
1) I couldn't keep watching after the first minute or so, too much noise on the audio.
2) Fair enough, but in some cases, it is. For example, a games library, as is the most commonly used example.
3) Not anymore, but they have in the past. They're still niche products though (does the average consumer need an IPS display?) which doesn't always lead to as many sales.
2) Many people prefer Winamp over VLC, do they not? Both are available for Windows, however, and thus a user has more choices (both of which are good) from the larger software library.
3) I'm not saying that the iMac isn't a good product, I'm saying it's a niche product. It may be better, but it still sells less.
If anything, Apple's better financial status only proves that they have a wider profit margin (and thus, a higher markup) on their products, by the way.
1) Maybe. All I know is that I can watch the vid all the way through with no discomfort.
2) more choices are irrelevant when you have the RIGHT choices at your disposal. I'm not shedding tears over Winamp. Don't care about it.
3) Apple sells millions of units a quarter. That is hardly insignificant.
3a) By your logic, HP has a higher profit margin and markup. Market doesn't work that way bro. Apple makes more money than Dell and Acer because they aren't slitting their own throats on the cheap
2) You may not care about it, but someone else may. You said more isn't better. In some cases, it very well is. More ~good~ choices -> more competition -> more development.
3) No, by my logic HP has a larger market share. Apple has a lower market share than Dell and Acer (2nd and 3rd in the market), and is more profitable. If you sell less, and make more, you must make more money per unit, no?
I'm sure Dell and Acer aren't losing money on their units, in any case.
2) There's nothing wrong with the media player selection on OSX as it is. Of course PC has more games, but the gulf between OSX and Windows in just about every other category isn't as big.
3) Apple is the fourth largest computer company in the US bro. That's speaking on Marketshare. As a hardware company, Apple has a very nice sized marketshare.
perhaps you didn't read my whole sentence. Yes they are losing money on their units. Their entire lineups compete with other parts of their lineups.
For every computer Dell and Acer sell, that's TEN they don't sell. The window to sell hardware is small. Those two companies eat so much plastic it ain't even funny.
Dell making less sales? They have the #1 position in worldwide and US hardware sales dude.
They are losing money because their product line is a mess. They hemorrhage money.
Dell's selling just as many computers are they did last year, same quarter then? Every time I read an article it says they're making a significant amount less sales. Which would certainly explain a decrease in profits.
The rest of your message proved my point. They're not losing money per unit in actual costs in manufacturing, they're losing it from making less sales of different products.
Dell does not spend more to produce a computer than they sell it for, to my knowledge.
I didn't say that they lost money per unit. i said that they lose money on the whole. If dell actually sold what they made, they'd be doing fine. But they don't. They only sell some of what they make and they eat plastic on the rest.
Apple made the SAME mistake in the 90's with the Perfoma line. That's why Apple doesn't make a Mid-Tower now because they learned about the mistake that dell is making, the hard way.

I suppose that's why the iMac is one of the the cheapest All In Ones at spec?
Yes, I think there argument is rather bad, but I do enjoy windows Vista more then Mac OS X... and every body I know UPGRADES their computer, even if they don't know jack squat about computers.
I can play Crysis on my mac, any steam games I want, WoW, they also have more solid network connections, to improve playing online, there's no need to overclock a mac for games because they are already optimized for performance, even with games. The new generation of macs outperformed the best gaming PC's this year, look it up, macs rock!
truer words were never spoken. just because you can play games doesnt mean your operating system is superior. if anything windows peaked at windows 98. sorry microsoft i am tried of your bullshit! im sticking to the 360 and ps3 as an alternative lower end pc gaming rig. FUCK YOUR SELF DESTRUCTING OS VISTA! im getting a fucking mac..........
You are right though. Gaming is NOT FOR MACS - but regardless, in my opinion, who the hell wants to play computer games anymore with the X360 and the PS3 out? It is just a little archaic! But as for Mac vs Pc - Macs are much better in many respects. My only two downfalls with my mac is the compatability with my Nokia N95 smartphone and memory card support. You have to buy adapters for EVERYTHING WITH MY MACBOOK. That is the only thing I hate!
i like pc better thats just me but i get what you are talking about with crysis DX10 is a flop im staying with DX9 hardware until DX10 get really good or a new DX comes out
Apple doesn't care about Gaming computers. Consumer models are where the real money is at. That's why Dell gobbled up Alienware instead of vice-versa.
Ask Steve Jobs, well, i don't agree whit your comment, MACS are for Media overall, but why would they put a MAC a 7800GTX and 2 gb of RAM, That's too much for a media center Computer, so maybe a 20% of the interest of Apple is on games(and you can see great titles coming for MAC too like UT3, GoW ect), That is just my point of view by researching specs on newest MACS.
Forgot to comment on the video itself. Good points, pretty unbiased. I think that there are SOME better things about windows as an OS, like customizability. I love being able to fuck around with my UI on windows. DMXell, you don't know what you're talking about. Crossover does NOT run windows apps very well compared to windows, neither does Cedega. DMXell, make sure you know what you're talking about, adn don't delete my comments from your videos just because you don't agree with them.
There are many games for the Mac if you dedicate yourself to only using a Mac. For one there's Crossover which lets you install Windows applications (such as Direct X and games) on the Mac and make them run natively. Another method is Cedega, which uses the same engine as CrossOver, but is specifically aimed for gaming. With these you can easily have access to the majority of popular and good games for Windows.
There are games for the Mac, in-fact, I've got about 23 or so games installed varying from FPSs, to MMORPGs, and even platformers. As for the nVidia8800, you can hack it onto a Mac Pro. Also, you can upgrade every Mac. You can also overclock on a Mac (even the newer iMac's have it stated in their desc.).
Your friend built a $5000 with only 2 GB of RAM? I could buy and upgrade a Mac Pro with a 2.66 GHz Quad Core, four nVidia GeForce 7300s, 16 GB of RAM and have a 1.5 TB amount of storage for the same price. Oh, that'd still leave $100, my bad. And I'd buy Windows XP to dual boot.
Oh, and just so you know, I'm not trying to sound mean here. I'm just trying to give out information. Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to computers :-p
well my friend only got two gigs of ram becauseof two reasons #1: he is using 32bit windows xp which dosen't support four gigs, and #2: becuase if you use more than 2 sticks of ram you lose certain ram timings for Overclocking, as for how much he spent he got two video cards to SLI which was $1200, and A full Water cooling get for the whole pc
i know there are games for the Mac, i am just saying that Apple doesn't target gamers that much, especially compared to how much Microsoft does, i am familiar with falshing video cards for the mac, and the only way o Overclock a mac is to physically change jumpers on the motherbroad, you cant go into bios or Efi the change settings for Overclocking
I have more fun building a PC. I have a AMD Athlon 64 3400+, ASUS 7600 GT, and 2 GB RAM and I have never had any problems like yours. Netburst was crap, so that married with your cheap mobo could have been most of your problems. With Macs, you don't have to really research processor architecture.
Also, Xbox 360 for media playback is optimal when using a PC running Windows. You can stream videos as easy as streaming them to a AppleTV.
the macbook pros all come with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics cards + mac OSX can run windows-only games natively w/o an installation of windows with Crossover Mac o.o
Nice, dude. I agree with the you that PC gaming just isn't worth it anymore. The only games I play on PC these days are the sims that you can ONLY get for PC (And they're all 2 or more years old). Keep it up Brosef. I enjoy your vids.
34skyline yes if you talking about investment, yes mac is a good investment.
But people don't want to invest in computers all there want is something cheap and reliable so thay can do there work. And only pcs give you that option.
adeadrat your cool guy your not as bad as people make you out to be in there video, my way of things are if you like pc's then buy a pc and the same goes for mac's, i like to stay neutral between mac vs pc thing, i like having a fully loaded 24 imac with core 2 extreme or a fully loaded macpro 8-core with 4gb of ram, 1tb hard drive, 2 super drive, 512mb nvidia quadro fx, macpro raid card or try a pc again but i don't know yet just look for a unboxing video
34skyline I don't know what you use your computer for. if you don't do much, Mac will be perfect for you. For me... I use my Windows Pc for every thing.. I have so many software I use every day I'm not here to convince anyone, im here only to express my true views on a Mac. that's all. Yes I do have a Mac and I hate it. Programs lucks up, stutter. Lag.Crash the lot. if you using a Mac for exploring the net and listening to iTunes or use iLife its pretty Neet. But using Thirty Party Software Then
but does windows crashes also, no operating system is perfect or any computer is perfect, i guess it's what you want and what kind of software that you want, well adeadrat have fun with your computer.
I running an old compaq evo it almost 5 yars old now. im still using it. is online 24-7 and it never crashed on me. it has better performance then may Mac mini which has 2 cores.
Don't get me Wrong . I do Love my Mac mini. It makes a good DVD player and a recorder but that's it.
adeadrat, sense i sold my dell and all my mac stuff and i've been without a computer for less than year now, what can you do to convince me to go back to pc? vista, dx10, gaming, hardware choices? you need more than that to convince me that windows are better than os 10.
Considering you would be able to run Windows on a Mac anyway the question would be:
Why should one primarily run Windows and do not ever run OS X?
My answer to that would be "depends".
Apple doesn't have answer for everything. You might want a built-in card reader; you might want a tablet, you might even want a toughbook. It is a question of what suits your needs the best.
my roommate just got 2 8800 ultras, nivida 680i motherboard, 4gb of ram, 300gb running a 10,000rpm harddrive, intel qx6800 quadcore,1000w powersupply, all this stuff is worth alot of money and in 1yr are less is not going worth anything , i been threw this with my dell xps when i was selling it and that thing was a bitch to sell because pc users, gamers don't want old technology, and other reason i sold my dell is just to expensive to keep up with new technology to run certain types of games.
My video is NOT about gaming. DX10 is good, especially for games, but it does not mean it is only for games. You can example, use it in scientific simulation.
IT IS NOT ABOUT GAMERS!!! IT IS ABOUT TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENT THAT MACS DO NOT GET!!
plus why spend so much money on pc computer or buying all these expensive cards that is not even going to worth crap in a year, at least the mac's hold there value over time.
Look at this way. The reason why Macs hold there value, is cus there only one company...
But on PC there loads of companies like Dell, HP, Compaq, Sony, Toshiba, NEC. Samsung, acer. IBM Panasonic. And many more I havent mention. Is a very competitive market. so prices will drop down real quick.
great video, i sold my dell xps to get a mac pro and i'm just gonna use bootcamp with vista to play games, i also have a Sony PS3, Xbox 360 and a Wii, my friend at work MARIO, thinks the Mac sucks because i can't use 8800 ultra, or mac's doesn't have many software, with MARIO and gamers it's always the same story. LEOPARD WILL EAT VISTA ALIVE.
i recently bought an iMac and i'm in love with it. i never owned any apple product besides an ipod and i didn't realized what i was missing until now lol. the last time i used a Mac for any amount of time was about 8 years ago, and only for a few minutes. did you ever get a Mac by any chance?

1) Like I said a day ago, he doesn't have a Mac. If you watched his vid, you'd know this.
2) More =/= better
3) lol, you're arguing that an iMac is sold at a premium price now?

1) I couldn't keep watching after the first minute or so, too much noise on the audio.
2) Fair enough, but in some cases, it is. For example, a games library, as is the most commonly used example.
3) Not anymore, but they have in the past. They're still niche products though (does the average consumer need an IPS display?) which doesn't always lead to as many sales.

1) Audio is fine for me.
2) You said it goes beyond games and then you cite games. Classy.
3) The iMac sells just fine bro. And hey, if we all bought only what we needed, we wouldn't buy nice cars, houses, clothes, food and so on.
sc0pl355 2 years ago
@sc0pl355
1. You don't here a bit of static or something in the background?
2. Fair enough. How about... media players? Winamp is a popular one, and isn't available for OS X.
3. The iMac sells just fine, cheap ass mid towers from Acer, Dell and HP sell better.
manjyoumethunder 2 years ago
1) Nope, sounds fine to me.
2) LOL don't need Winamp. VLC bro.
3) Let's see. Cheapass towers or quality iMac... Hmmm...
Quality over Quantity dude. Also, from your list, only HP is doing better than Apple financially. See?
In fact, Apple is doing better than Dell and Acer COMBINED.

Perhaps you didn't read my entire sentence. "Dell and Acer aren't losing money on their units" .
Of course Dell and Acer are losing money, they're making less sales. We're in an economic recession if you haven't noticed.
But they're not Sony selling PS3s, they're not giving their computers away for less than they paid for them. They're not losing money on sales.

But using Thirty Party Software Then
ADeadRat 4 years ago
but does windows crashes also, no operating system is perfect or any computer is perfect, i guess it's what you want and what kind of software that you want, well adeadrat have fun with your computer.
34skyline 4 years ago
Yes PCs do Crash if you mess with the bios. Adding the wrong settings or trying to add more volts on the CPU.. ...and so on

34skyline 4 years ago
Considering you would be able to run Windows on a Mac anyway the question would be:
Why should one primarily run Windows and do not ever run OS X?
My answer to that would be "depends".
Apple doesn't have answer for everything. You might want a built-in card reader; you might want a tablet, you might even want a toughbook. It is a question of what suits your needs the best.

Truth of the matter is that Mac OSX is crap at a lot of things, Not just Games!
For example third party software... Macs can't digest them as good as windows. that's way windows will always be one top.

Yes as you just said Pcs Loose there Value real quick...that cus there is new stuff coming out every week...
so best thing to get a cheap NVIDIA 8800 is just wait a few weeks till the price comes down...
ADeadRat 4 years ago
my roommate just got 2 8800 ultras, nivida 680i motherboard, 4gb of ram, 300gb running a 10,000rpm harddrive, intel qx6800 quadcore,1000w powersupply, all this stuff is worth alot of money and in 1yr are less is not going worth anything , i been threw this with my dell xps when i was selling it and that thing was a bitch to sell because pc users, gamers don't want old technology, and other reason i sold my dell is just to expensive to keep up with new technology to run certain types of games.
34skyline 4 years ago
My video is NOT about gaming. DX10 is good, especially for games, but it does not mean it is only for games. You can example, use it in scientific simulation.
IT IS NOT ABOUT GAMERS!!! IT IS ABOUT TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENT THAT MACS DO NOT GET!!
Pool56k 4 years ago
plus why spend so much money on pc computer or buying all these expensive cards that is not even going to worth crap in a year, at least the mac's hold there value over time.
34skyline 4 years ago
Look at this way. The reason why Macs hold there value, is cus there only one company...
But on PC there loads of companies like Dell, HP, Compaq, Sony, Toshiba, NEC. Samsung, acer. IBM Panasonic. And many more I havent mention. Is a very competitive market. so prices will drop down real quick.
ADeadRat 4 years ago
great video, i sold my dell xps to get a mac pro and i'm just gonna use bootcamp with vista to play games, i also have a Sony PS3, Xbox 360 and a Wii, my friend at work MARIO, thinks the Mac sucks because i can't use 8800 ultra, or mac's doesn't have many software, with MARIO and gamers it's always the same story. LEOPARD WILL EAT VISTA ALIVE.

apple doesn't remove games from the OS, game companies dont make as many games for OSx because it has a low market share
theloseph 4 years ago
Yes there is lot of people that don't play games on there pc... So that dose Not mean you have to remove it from the OS
The truth of the matter is... That there is a whole loads of people that do play games.
ADeadRat 4 years ago
making multimedia, internet, email, office work, all kinds of thing, lots of people use pc and dont play games
theloseph 4 years ago
Apple always talk about how good there OS is ..And how entertaining it is.
What good is a computer if it can't play games?
