I just freaking love this XL 5. It has everything you need. Wanna play a sweet blues ? you can. Crunchy rock ? you can. Metal? not a problem. Need to do an epic solo for one of your song ? The XL5-neck will be your best friend for it, and will allow you to do stuffs you couldn't even think you were able to do. Considereing it's decently low price, it's probably one of the best choice for a guitarist who wants an high quality instrument. You just can't fall in love with it.
BTW, anyone looking for a bass has GOT to check out Hagstrom's discontinued FXB line!! I bought one to resell, and kept it, and play it more often than my Rick! Great tone, PERFECTLY balanced. (I have become "Hagstrom Guy")
Hagstroms are awesome. Anything under $1000 is made in China nowadays, but these are actually quality instruments. Nobody I know has played an XL and not liked it. After playing my XL-5 for awhile, all my other guitar's necks piss me off until I get re-adjusted to them.. I have a Swede and a Viking, and they are great too,but the XL-5 just rocks. 24 fret access is sweet. I am looking for an XL-2 now because being an old Gibson SG guy, I am a sucker for the 2 Humbucker config.
@TheGondis Hi. Not sure where you are getting your info, but I have owned 11 Hagstroms, and they ALL say Made in China. Just sayin'. Of course, the old original pre-1983 Hagstroms were made in Sweden.
@stymye well I got one...!...The neck is un-freakin-believable,, and I set the action lower than ever because the fretboard was perfect.
my only gripe is the fret ends aren't finished dressed, short time with a file took care of it, the pickups are good, some upgrades would make this esp level.
for the money ,I want to keep these shred machines a secret...or the price will go up
man! that is seriously the most over the top insane , you tube demo Ive eveer seen . I have been aroudn some good players but man , yu have ot be one the the best kept secrets . Kudos . How can we get your instrumental CD s
Sounds good does the ability to reach the 20th fret on; without the body in the way prove itself because that is what has me interested the most. This guitar looks extremely user friendly.
@jks2 it's not a cheap guitar, i think it's quality standard are far superior than almost all guitar makes in it's price range. plus the neck is a real dream. i think they're great guitars, but one could swap the pickups. i don't like the bridge pup on my xl-5. but the neck pup is pretty round and flowing.
I've had my xl5 for about 3 months now. Loving every second of it, definately worth trading in my jackson rhodes for it.
When i first got it my playing instantly got about 10% better because of the speed of the neck. I just hope i'll still be able to play another guitar! haha.
Yeah it's amazing how many sounds you can get out of that guitar.. really astonishing. It's weird but a PRS doesn't have that many variation possibilities.
hi, perfect for rock/hard rock too, but for blues and jazz this model is too high in medium so i would recommend an ultra swede or the XL2 (see my other video using that model)
Would the XL2 be versatile enough for Jazz and metal? XD it's a strange combination I know, but I play avant-garde metal and I'm looking for a new axe.
I'm on my second XL-5 right now... the neck on the first was so incredibly thin that the truss rod was actually about to break through the back of it. You could actually see a crack in the wood and the outline of the truss rod bulging outwards. I was able to take the first one back to the dealer and he gave me a brand new one that works perfectly fine. The neck is INCREDIBLY fast; probably the best I've ever played. I'm starting to hear some fret buzz, but I might just need to change strings.
Man, .I've heard a lot good and extremely fast guitar players, but this really made my jaw drop. Your playing would even have John Petrucci trembling...
I own the XL5 and play it through a VOX DA5, and it sounds ok. But! I tried playing this through a Peavey Classic 30, WOW this has tone from Randy Rhodes to Skynyrd. With the coil tap it is truely the most veritile axe on the market.
Hagstroms are beautiful guitars, but I wondering if the ultra swede can play crunk stuff. Styled like Even Idols Die, or maybe some Ophira licks. I'm debating between schecter and hagstrom.
Dude, you're awesome!

@stymye get the satin black one and never look back! You could waste $1000 on a Jackson and not get half the guitar.
