I've been trying to help the FreeCAD project recently (check -out my channel for links inf your interested), I wish FreeCAD could do all the things shown in your vid!
I started to consider to buy the plans just to get my hands on this Sketchup build to pry it apart and see how you made it.
I seriously think that with this results you can make set of videos of how to make such plans - and sell it together with sketchup templates for making such plans. At the same time your ability to churn such plans out will skyrocket if you do it.
this blows my mind your plans are awesome. much cheaper than most and much better. thanks for the sweet videos, and all the thumbs downs are just because people are jealous they arnt as cool
NO WAY this gets any thumbs down, i will be buying as soon as i finish the slot mortise, the pantorouter, the box joint jig.
You make the best plans available and it comes with all the explanation needed....please please keep up the great work for us wanna-be Wandels:) i have a group of guys here in MI to gather and discuss your Monday Vids....thx
It's an ok price because it's a download, so I don't have the expense of mailing things. It would be quite a thick wad of paper if I mailed paper copies.
Its great to know that using google sketchup is possible, i find it incredibly diffiult to use, then again i havent used it very long, and havent had the time to learn all the uses for each tools, but what you do with it is really nice work. Do it take a long time to learn how to use google sketchup that extensively? thanks in advance
Incredible design. Well done and thanks for the walkthrough. Must have taken a lot of time and work to create those CAD models - as well as first hand experience I would imagine from the previous bandsaws you made. Thanks.
@Matthiaswandel I can sympathize with how tedious it can be sometimes to do up a good CAD model. On the other hand, I figure the time saved and frustration avoided by having a good model more than makes up for the effort.
I'd thumb up videos on how to use sketchup to produce 2D plans from 3D models. Sketchup is fantastic when you know how to use it, but not that easy to learn without video instructions. Great bandsaw by the way. If I didn't already have one I'd try building one of your designs.
Yeah, some people think it's wrong for anyone who has spent countless hours learning, testing and developing a product, reducing it down to an understandable presentation, then providing excellent detailed plans to try to get even a small return for all their effort.
I think it's a great thing you are doing and wish you millions for it.
i am building my small shop. i want to to due woodworking because of you. i like the way you explain things. i only hope that one day i can do something like this. thank you. just one question for band saw what brand you thing is good.
Grizzly , jet , delta or which do you think will be ok. please give me your opinion thank you.
@Matthiaswandel thank you again. can you tell me what brand did you used. i am just new to this and what i am doing is recycling wood and building toys and boxes. i will post videos. but what i need now is a table saw and band saw. because i am limited to my scroll saw and my drill and some dremel tools. but i am saving to buy what i need.
@elfenix2050 Virtually all of the standard 14" bandsaws come out of the same factory in China, the main differences being the color they paint them, and the quality of the accessories. So the real differences are in the details, quality manuals, good customer service, etc. I've been very happy with everything I've gotten from Jet. Less so with the few Delta items I've got. Grizzly has fantastic support, and I'm seriously considering a new Tablesaw from them.
@Mauser712 thank you for the inf. i am thinking too of buying from grizzly. i am going to buy a craftman from craiglists for 100 i saw in sears for 179 so i think i am getting a good deal.
@elfenix2050 Don't do it! Decades ago Craftsman started trading solely on their good name, but their power tool quality went into the toilet. (The hand tools, not so bad, but it's hard to screw up a wrench).
@Mauser712 i did buy the band saw and i am happy with it. it work fine. next time i till go for the grizzly but for now this is good. the guy from who i bought it didnt used so it was new. i think some tools are still ok not all of them just some.
I don't know what you are planning to use for the blade wheels on your bandsaw mill but on ours we use 24inch industrial pulleys with 24.5 inch belts on each pulley like tires. We get about 100 hours of actual saw time before they need to be replaced. Inexpensive and simple. Keep up the good work, you inspire.
You sir need a mig and a plasma!

Great work,
Question... Is that the free-side, or the pay-side of sketchup ?
drychalice 3 months ago
Just the free side.

Really nice use of Sketchup!
And great detail in the designs too.

Wow, this rocks Matthias!
How long did it take you to make this set of plans?
lehcyfer 5 months ago
Far too long. For weeks on and off. Getting the CAD model just right is only part of the effort that goes into a set of plans.

Building (detailed) models on the pc is always such a pain to do (well, just my 2 cents anyway :p) Good work, especially on the saw and the ratchet.
