ya me and my mom watched as it was heading right toward us at community hospital in munster indiana then it jogged north i got some amazing pictures from that day
@AeroStorm911 I like eo watch these kind of Videos cause were I live yeah in California we don't have this sort of weather in my state, oh we may hae a stinky rope of a tornado that a F0 but i like to watch these kind of videos.
@AeroStorm911 You see the size and structure of this storm and are reminded of how lucky we were that it didn't develop and organize itself into the monsters that hit Tuscaloosa and Joplin earlier this year. South suburban Chicago was VERY fortunate this day!
I notice that the structure dissipates as it crosses the expressway. I've seen other examples where the heat of pavement seems to disrupt the funnel, or delay it forming until a cooler surface temp.
Canada gets tornadoes also. Have you seen the Eli Manatoba Tornado. Edmonton Alberta also got hit buy a bad tornado. Saskatuwan area had a big one also. I know Manatoba and Ontario get the most when it comes to Canadian twisters. But you definetly get less than we do. I believe all of Canada's territories put together get a total just under 100 tornadoes per year. Most of them are small so they don't make the news. You have a lot of open country too. Very beautiful country at that.
now what are the people goning to think when the look ot there window and find, oh say, just a giant tornado about to hurl their car in the air, will the pee or scream first?
Ironic, you must have been right next to Federal Signal taping the tornado on I-57, and they are the ones that make many of the tornado warning systems. Thank goodness it was not another 1/4 mile south.
EF5!!! It was on TV and in the newspapers! Had it stayed on the ground the whole time it would have been worse than the Plainfield, Il. tornado of 1990 which killed 27 people and caused millions of dollars in damages!
wow. amazing footage! my great grandma died that day 6-7-08 (not from the tornado) and was from the same town (monee) where the exit was.... it was a weird, sad day.

i live in a town one the mississippi river. all the storms seem to go north or south of us...:/. we can get storms but id say the storms that form from peoria, ILL. on east to chicago are the strongest ive seen over the yrs.
Just go up over the missy river valley west. Before you even get to the wapsi bottom there is so much storm action out there in the afternoons during late feb-june it's unreal. You've got to understand that tornadoes just go BACK UP into the sky when the ground drops out for the river valley, that's why it seems that we don't have as much action, the QC and muscatine are protected, they're in a "weather shadow"
@AeroStorm911 Yeah, no kidding...I live in the Quad Cities and we get severe weather just about every other day. Enjoying the 2 days of High Pressure right now, but then it's back to sirens and Terry Swails...lol
you now live in Iowa and you miss the storms? Well I have news for you, my friend, what they have in Illinois is NOTHING COMPARED TO IOWA. So brace yourself. I don't know where you live, but if you're anywhere 5 miles west of the mississippi or more, you're in for it. You'll see storms this summer that'll make you pee your pants. Guarenteed. -john (lived in both Illinois and Iowa)
Sorry Laman, but your statements consist nothing more than illogical bias. Tornadoes can and will form in any location as long as the atmospheric conditions are favorable. Granted Iowa may have a higher frequency of storms than Illinois, but that doesn't mean that the storms in Illinois are going to be weaker or more violent than the ones in Iowa. Nature does what it wants.
You forget, we had the killer storm of the decade in 1990. Plainfield! It killed 27 people and was catagorized as one of 10 worse storms in Illinois ever. It was classified an F5, was wrapped in rain, and virtually came down right on top of the poor town! It also cost millions of dollars in damage.
Actually theres about 30 seconds in-between each one that I cut out, my chaser partner who was still on I-57 calls me and because its so noisy I can barely hear him so im screaming and swearing on the phone...noone wants to hear that lol.
as a correction to where the tornado was going through it was in Monee and near University Park illinois those were high tention wires that you saw being pulled off the towers as well as the towers being severly dammaged and had to be replaced and there was a ware house that was also severly damaged just on the other side of I-57 this information is cmpletely accurate i am a fire figther for Crete the next town over and i was in University Park just after this all happened
Adam, that is awesome footage buddy on both videos :)
It looks like the tornado had went multi-vortex, before the condensation funnel lifted, but it looks like the tornado was trying to get more organized to reform again, but I don't know if this was the case or not as the clip ended :)
Thank you for posting these up Adam, top rating for some top footage :)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!! i live by there its called Richton Park!!i was in chicago when it happend i got just the funnel over my house!!!a tree collapsed on my trampoline
Yes I did, my van was shaking violently. When I got back inside my anemometer showed a top measured wind speed of 55.7mph, which Im assuming was during that time.
Looks like it petered out around 90% as soon as it hit the pavement. Of course, that could be it wasn't kicking up dirt and it could have resumed after the clip. Still a good video. Sure as hell beats other clips where the camera's all over the place.
i live right around there. scary!!! i am glad my house and my neighbors were fine. that was a very frightening storm...i was at the white sox game watching the Sox HAMMER the Twinkise 11-2. i called home all nervous during a rain delay because they announced a tornado hit Frankfort and was heading to Richton Park...
no shit me and my wife were followed by my sister and her husband in a uhaul. that fucking tornado almost blew me off the road in a small car... also i wasnt from around there, was moving to counsil bluffs... figured was safe since people were still driving...boy was i wrong.
great footage, im a truck driver and just went through there like 1/2 hour before this, i have yet not seen a tornado, i would like to see one just not upclose lol.
imagine driving and you see a tornado coming towards you
lmao, damn i'd shit my pants.
my mom just had to drag me to jcPenny's that day, where the funnel cloud was forming. Thankfully the clouds passed over the area before the funnel actually formed. we were pretty damn close though.
I work at a videogame company* about 500 yards from this spot! We were having dinner at a nearby outdoor cafe** when the Tornado Hit; we watched it come through town. Exciting ending to a fun afternoon.
Wow, you're the ass here really, wishing death upon someone because they filmed a tornado and relayed it to the NWS to help them warn everyone? Was that really necessary? Didn't think so. Shut your mouth.
Looks like you got soaked in that RFD... I am a Skywarn member too, unfortunately I was in San Francisco that day visiting relatives. I would have never thought that while I was away this would happen.
in your article on gizmodo, you commented on how "haunting" it was to see that people cared about recording the tornado to put it on Youtube more than to take shelter from it, but that is exactly what you did! So how can you be shocked by others when you did the same thing?
He's trained so I'm sure he wasn't in any huge danger even though he had some wind.I'm also a trained spotter and they teach us where to located in relation to the storm and to have 2 escape routes just in case you do have to get out of the area quick.
I followed this same storm. Im not sure if it was the same tornado, but I followed one from pontiac, then dwight and through essex... which was where I stopped. Magnificent storm that day. Great video.
Ok Today I was in Fergus Falls MN And a tornado hit!!! and OMG i was shaking so hard! So me and my mom and aunt were driving and we thought the best place to go would be Wal-Mart so when we were in the parking lot, I was getting out of da truck and The tornado was comming tord us!! and my mom was parking the truck and i was like COME ON!!!!!!! i never thought they would be scary but when they come its really scary! Good thing no BIG damage happen! So were All ok. But omg it seem cool but its not
funny thing is I'm watching this with pounding thunder outside O_o...ominous signs lol; nice video though man, I loved watching it, and was sure to favorite it!5/5
:o did... did I just see that tornado actually go OVER you?!?!? But but... the, wait, I'm so confused. That tornado was just going at the land for a few minutes... then once it was on I-57... it just totally died and it was hovering over you :o
Good job!! Stay safe!!! Careful of those powerful winds and lightning...you storm chasers are extremely helpful to so many of us, we need to have a National Storm Chasers Day to show our appreciation at the end of the season, the season gets longer and longer! God Be With All Of You!!!!!
Before you make stupid comments, think first! If it weren't for storm chasers, you and the rest of the population wouldn't know where the storms were heading or how severe they were. And by the way...how do you think you were able to view this footage and others like it??!
Ohhhhhh my god. so i live in oak forest and i saw that thing. i was driving on 159th and harlem and i saw that huuuuge cloud around mokena area and pissed my pants and ran home to hide in my basement....you are WAY brave for recording this. kudos to u
Let me get thus straight... this guy is filming a catastrophic, extremely dangerous event from yards away, in the middle of 100+ mph winds, rain, lightning, is standing on the shoulder of a highway with cars zooming past him, yet he has the presence of mind to call 911 to alert everyone of the impending danger, and all YOU can do is critique his very human commentary and spew snide remarks because you didn't get a Lucasfilm/Steven Speilberg production?
I second that... amazing video!!! I am in England where we actually get more per capita than the USA, but they are smaller, much much smaller.. this is fascinating! As crazy as you are filming this, I totally loved watching it! Thank you!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ok Vinny, why is the guy standing inches from oncoming cars zooming by?? hmmmmm....Safe...
And , with of 100+ mph winds, rain, etc. Maybe should get back in vehicle and film from inside? Also able to get away quicker? And most importantly could hold camera steady!!!
If you can't take a steady picture, your TOO CLOSE....You don't seem to give a crap about the posters safety at all...Cheer him on jittery camera and all crapping his pants as he gets closer and closer to please people like YOU....
Everyone (except you) knows that being in a vehicle during a tornado is not safe. In fact, this very one destroyed a truck and flipped a vehicle on THAT expressway. Connect the dots below, if you can even comprehend that:
video . nbc5 . com/player/?id=260773
Another fact, he is a storm chaser:
watch?v=UWp8M2RgmDc
and despite not giving you your Speilberg film, he alerted 911. That's more than can be said for the proverbial backseat driver bonehead like YOU hiding in the cyber-ether.
I see. So when you decided to go back in your home for that tornado YOU WEREN'T "in" 3 months ago, why didn't you grab your tripod and stand on your rooftop to give the world the same "quality" tornado film you've come to expect? After all, the tornado wasn't moving towards you, so what was your excuse? I can't wait to read your hypocritical excuse.
I see. That explains perfectly why you were here critiquing someone else's TORNADO footage. Thanks for not disappointing us... I knew you'd have an asinine response you couldn't possibly justify.
When you can stand in a torrential rain with a tornado bearing down on you and do a better job of video taping...then you can talk smack!! Get a life loser!!!!!!!
If you think getting a life means standing in a torrential rain with a tornado bearing down on me, (neither of which happened in this video you noob) then your retarded...I highly doubt this stormchaser gets deliberately in the direct path of ANY tornado...or torrential rain for that matter lol...Rain doesnt make good video...:) Thanks for YOUR armchair quarterback comment though :)
Rainallday, You are very welcome!!! No, I don't think that getting a life means standing in torrential rain, however, you seem to have nothing positive to say. This isn't supposed to be a professional video, you twit. It was taken just to show people what the storm was like. Can't you appreciate it for what it is?! Which, speaking of videos, where is your "Speilberg" production? Oh, that's right....you were probably cowering in a corner putting on your pampers.
In the name of world peace, I declare you, strmchsrmom, the winner....We don't get many tornados here in Columbia, sc..On 3/15 we had a ef-2 right near me as i was leaving for work, but I decided to go back inside and be with my 17 1/2 yr old cat, in case we took a direct hit, I did'nt want her to be alone..
I took a couple of cellphone pics of the sky before going inside, and they are poor quality, but maybe I'll post them on my channel...
Only an absolute FOOL could look atthis an not see da hand of God, dem atheist get ready to burn in hell worse than that tornato

:o did... did I just see that tornado actually go OVER you?!?!? But but... the, wait, I'm so confused.

IN swenden wee doesent have this kinde of wedher.so i must ask whats the diferens between an trombe and an tornado?
andyunderground 3 years ago
A water-spout(trombe) is typically weaker and not associated with a supercell thunderstorm.
Some of them are actually tornadoes over water though.

At the 7second to 11 second part; the "lightning" is actually the 345,000 volt line being torn down.

Geez oh man, hold the dang camera steadier wouldya??......The typical stormchaser comments like, 'oh shit', 'good lord' 'omg'
'unbelievable'....etc really get old fast..
you had perfect spot for super nice high res video and turned it into blair witch project...thx anyway for reporting it...
rainallday 3 years ago
Let me get thus straight... this guy is filming a catastrophic, extremely dangerous event from yards away, in the middle of 100+ mph winds, rain, lightning, is standing on the shoulder of a highway with cars zooming past him, yet he has the presence of mind to call 911 to alert everyone of the impending danger, and all YOU can do is critique his very human commentary and spew snide remarks because you didn't get a Lucasfilm/Steven Speilberg production?
GET A LIFE, LOSER! Got that?
VinnyV444 3 years ago 9
I second that... amazing video!!! I am in England where we actually get more per capita than the USA, but they are smaller, much much smaller.. this is fascinating! As crazy as you are filming this, I totally loved watching it! Thank you!

If you can't take a steady picture, your TOO CLOSE....You don't seem to give a crap about the posters safety at all...Cheer him on jittery camera and all crapping his pants as he gets closer and closer to please people like YOU....
rainallday 3 years ago
Everyone (except you) knows that being in a vehicle during a tornado is not safe. In fact, this very one destroyed a truck and flipped a vehicle on THAT expressway. Connect the dots below, if you can even comprehend that:
video . nbc5 . com/player/?id=260773
Another fact, he is a storm chaser:
watch?v=UWp8M2RgmDc
and despite not giving you your Speilberg film, he alerted 911. That's more than can be said for the proverbial backseat driver bonehead like YOU hiding in the cyber-ether.
VinnyV444 3 years ago 4
Vinny, you overlooked one thing...He wasn't IN the tornado..The tornado was moving away...
Now YOU too can return to your proverbial backseated bonehead commenting in 'cyberspace'
Got that?
rainallday 3 years ago

Why? because my cat is more important than tornados.....thanks for replying... :)
rainallday 3 years ago
"because my cat is more important than tornados"
I see. That explains perfectly why you were here critiquing someone else's TORNADO footage. Thanks for not disappointing us... I knew you'd have an asinine response you couldn't possibly justify.
Game, set, match. Buh-bye now bonehead.

Lol I get the negative ratings for calling out someone who talks shit about Adam's video....that makes sense!!
ILsvrwxtorchsr 3 years ago
Hey...rainallday,
When you can stand in a torrential rain with a tornado bearing down on you and do a better job of video taping...then you can talk smack!! Get a life loser!!!!!!!
strmchsrmom 3 years ago 4
If you think getting a life means standing in a torrential rain with a tornado bearing down on me, (neither of which happened in this video you noob) then your retarded...I highly doubt this stormchaser gets deliberately in the direct path of ANY tornado...or torrential rain for that matter lol...Rain doesnt make good video...:) Thanks for YOUR armchair quarterback comment though :)
rainallday 3 years ago
Rainallday, You are very welcome!!! No, I don't think that getting a life means standing in torrential rain, however, you seem to have nothing positive to say. This isn't supposed to be a professional video, you twit. It was taken just to show people what the storm was like. Can't you appreciate it for what it is?! Which, speaking of videos, where is your "Speilberg" production? Oh, that's right....you were probably cowering in a corner putting on your pampers.
strmchsrmom 3 years ago 2
In the name of world peace, I declare you, strmchsrmom, the winner....We don't get many tornados here in Columbia, sc..On 3/15 we had a ef-2 right near me as i was leaving for work, but I decided to go back inside and be with my 17 1/2 yr old cat, in case we took a direct hit, I did'nt want her to be alone..
I took a couple of cellphone pics of the sky before going inside, and they are poor quality, but maybe I'll post them on my channel...

OMG thank you man for watchin over all of our backs who live in tornado areas!!
