how can i get my dog to even like frisbee? i throw the ball and she will jump 3 feet in the air the caught it., so i think she would love frisbee, but how can i get her to give it a chance?
this was some wonderful advice for those inexperienced people, yes, like me, who's dogs seem to determine where the frisbee gets thrown. Something I will be working on starting today.
i taught my whippets to not bite down hard on the disc. they go through about 1 per month. maybe its not as easy to teach a Border... not sure. i wouldnt be surprised if borders are harder to teach that.

Hey Zack George. I have a question. i have a one year old Border Collie that is scared of everthing. What should I do Zack George. PLEASE HELP ME. Thank You. Elizabeth
Zak, Thanx for making it a better world for dogs! Question; How do I make the transition from a ball pup to frisbee?? I roll it, I toss it and no interest. Any tips? Thanx again.
I have a request for u. I have a 1 year westie and i have a problem with her. Whenever someone comes to my house she stars jumping over the visitor and i can't stop her. This is my first dog so i have no experience on teaching a dog. i would love if u could tell me a few tricks to stop that behaviour.
My Miniature Collie has separation Anxiety too. When my mom leaves the house, he howls and paces around the floor. I've been training him though. He barks and runs over to my mom when he hears her keys jingle.
I have a treeing feist, and she constantly digs up our back yard, is there a way to stop this, i show her attention, but the problem is i cant catch her in the act, i see it through the window, but as soon as i step outside she comes to me, how might i go about preventing the digging?
Hello Zak! I just found this channel and i'm really amazed with what you can teach to dogs. I have a question for you. I have a dog named Speedy and I wanted him to close my kitchen door everytime he openned it. It's just he leaves the door wide open after coming back from outside and that really upsets me because my house is heated and with the door openned (sometimes i don't even notice) the heat fades away. Can you help me with that? Thanks! XOXO Angela
Plott Hound - I need help. I cannot get this dog to mellow out while on the leash. I used harness on her back, a nose leader, and now a choke collar with the spikes and she still pulls so hard that she pulls me over, pulls out my shoulder joint, pulls out my back etc. Nothing gets through to this dog, yanking, yelling, screaming, grabbing her nose to force her to stare at me and acknowledge in any way, its like she is wild and will not be broken. She is gonna do what she is gonna do.
Sorry, but you are doing it all wrong. DON'T yell at your dog. This is what to do: When you are walking he/she and once he/she starts to pull, take a dead stop, turn your back and ignore the dog for 10-15 seconds. Then start walking again, if your dog pulls again. then stop again. You might only get 1 foot or even 1 inch before you have to stop, but this is the correct way to train her, and it really does work, just takes some time.
Hi Zak, I've got a question for you....me and my dog lola are learning to throw (for me) and her to catch a frisbee. She's really good, I am not yet!
How do I get my dog to run before I throw the frisbee as I havent yet managed to get the frisbee to hover very well and she cant get to it fast enough. If she was to run a little before I throw it, It would give her more chance of catching it. How can I do this? I hope this makes sense
Zak, love the dogs! The BC's are awesome, but we need to have more on the pitbull, Callie! :-) What a sweet dog! I'm working with a young lady and her pitbull, Bones. Also, a sweetie!
Or you could be an extremely inaccurate thrower and your dog learns to watch you. It is amazing to me how she can adjust for the direction of the disc even in wind.
The reason that this is happening is that dogs go to where the reward happens. Frisbee happens "Out There!" It never really happens close to the handler for you and Chloe, Francois.
Shortening the toss will alter that reality.
For proof, look at where Chloe sets up. 10 yards away from you. You'd think she'd be right on the Frisbee, but she knows that Frisbee happens out there, so she cheats a little and sets up so she has efficient access to where the reward is.
Zak. Would you possibly consider showing how to teach a dog to "cover its eyes" ...or put 1 front leg over its eyes in a bashful way. Maybe hide and seek for your genius dogs. Thank you for your videos sir.
I was waiting for this vid! Awesome Zak! Just Ordered a couple Fastbacks from Discovering the world after watching one of your older vids.
In that older vid you said you might do a vid about types of Frisbees (never did the vid!)...and I'd still LOVE to see a vid about the different Frisbees! I'm a total newb to the pro world of Frisbee so picking out a disc is really wandering around in the dark atm. Someone recommended me Hero brand? What are some of the different brands better for?
This may sound stupid but are there mini frisbees for little dogs. My dogs would probably love to catch frisbee but the frisbee is bigger then their head. lol
thank you so much! this was exactly the part me and my dog Lola were struggling with, now we have something to work with again until summer! brilliant!
If it isn't too much effort could you explain a good way to teach your dog to be dependable off leash, maybe go in depth because even for short distances my dogs tend to randomly bolt, not to mention if theres a cat or a dog(or a smelly hobo sometimes) ,but i would HUGELY appreciate you mentioning that in a video. i love your videos awesome and useful :)
does it matter if the dog stays by your side till you throw it or is it better to have them already run out and then throw the ball out towards them??
I think my Yorkie is incapable of learning tricks. I taught him how to sit which took like a week. 5 months later I tried to teach him to circle for awhile now and nothing. =[. Or maybe circle is too advance since he only knows how to sit. I know it takes time and patience but I'm not seeing any progress.
@peionastick Some dogs respnd to training better thn others, but I thnk theres no such thing as incapable.I was also frustrated at my dear dog for not responding to the lure way of training, but zak's vids taught me that everytime I became frustrated my dog would give up as well. Working on roll over right now, making gd progress. dont worry, it can take ages, but its OK! watch some of zak's older vids, they helped alot.
I wish my dog would catch frizbies like that! I try to teach him tricks but he's way to spastic and really old now. I don't think he really wants to learn which is fine with me anyway. :P Haha.
i'm thinking of getting a dog, what do you think is a good dog? i'm thinking of either getting a dog like zoey , miley or malekai. (the first two belong to charles and alli, the third to the shaytards)
my dog runs after joggers, people on bikes, and sometimes will jump up at them, this could cause an accident and people get very annoyed, my border collie is a year and 2 months old, is it his age, or have i not thought of something? also how can i teach him to concentrate on me whilst i walk him, this might help witht he jumping up at other people
Great video! My dog Flash had the exact same problem but since I had started doing this technique he is so much better at tracking the disc. Do have any tips on socializing a nervous puppy/dog? He's 11 months old now (I've have him since he was 7 weeks old) and I took him around people and other dogs, but he's still super reactive when people or dogs give him eye contact and verbal contact. Any suggestions would welcome.
try having the perosn around him a while. just the prescence will be what is scaring him. so make it were he cant leave the room, but still were he can fell comftorbale (whole living room) he will hide but eventually become more comftureble.
For dogs, it may be best to wait till hes more comfortable with people.
He's okay in the house now, it's just outside and in public places. he's either shaking like a leaf or growling and barking at people and dogs now. If they don't acknowledge his presence then seems okay, but realistically no one I walk past in the park has the common sense to do that, they coo at him and try to pet him, cause he is freaking cute. My vet last saw him at the last round of vaccinations last year and said he'd probably be "ant-social" his whole life. It's looking like that's true.
If he's willing to accept food when he's nervous, this may help. Recruit some friends and have someone walk by when you're outside and throw him some tasty food, probably without acknowledging him at first and then building up to eye contact and "cooing" if it seems to be helping. For dogs, you need to provide the treats yourself when he looks at another dog, starting with them at a distance and working them closer to you. You want him to associate dogs and people with good things like food.
Cool vid! I have a question, I have a 10 wk old Border collie that i am trying to housebreak, any tips?? Also, he grawel at me and snapped at me today when I went to pet him while he was chewing on a treat, how can I stop that? Please Help!
