Just goes to show you don't have to be religous to recognize fantastic vocal work. This is one of the finest examples of vocal harmonizing I've ever heard. I am Catholic, but it wouldn't matter if I wasn't because this is an absolute joy to hear.
The record is being released in something like 36 countries, in fact I think it was released last week. The younger of the two brother priests is the priest in my parish of 600 people, so it's causing quite a stir here, to see our priest on tv
BTW, this version of Panis Angelicus is by Casciolini. Don't know if links are allowed in comments, but a search will turn up the free downloadable score on an Italian site. Looks pretty easy for an average choir.
I am of no religion....Heck I struggle day in and day out with the idea that there is even any God out there. Yet, I clicked on this video and found myself hearing the voices of these men of the cloth. I think not only do they sound absolutely beautiful but there is something about them and their singing. They have a magical sound to them...a sound so powerful that I listened to the video 5 times and now and looking for more of their music. Thank you for posting...
yeah, their voices blend well and i'm sure they're great anyway but the reason why they blend so "effortlessly" here is because they're in a place with incredible acoustics. pretty much anyone could sing there and sound good.
I would love to play my violin in that hall. This is a small part of the monophonic, polyphonic era. Catholic hymnals are beautiful. They're even more inspiring when you understand the structure and even the translation. My music flesh side says "Encore!" My Spiritual and religious side says "Amen!"
beautiful sounds, but: what's the point of singing something that no one understands?? And people should never assume what another person likes, esp. God. & what if God didn't exist? What if people wasted their life believing in stuff that didn't exist?? I think scientist should researcher more about God instead going to church. i know that might offend some people, but, it can be the truth.
And i still don't get why its uplifting? I like classical music better and it isn't boring.
Oh, so then it is your appointed duty & purpose in life to go around criticizing people over their music or what appeals to them and to straighten them all out? People enjoying this sort of music hurts nobody and probably makes the world a lot better with the positive uplifting vibes they get from it. If you don't like something why don't you go elsewhere. in short, grow up & get a life.
I agree with the comment below by Skeazix. In a world that's tearing itself to pieces can't we just take time to listen to something simple and uplifting ? Whatever faith (or non faith)this is an opportunity to savour something refreshing for your soul.
I think it is very interesting that anytime anybody posts anything with a spiritual/faith/religious connotation, people are immediately up at arms arguing trivialites. Can't we just ejoy the music? It is highly unlikely that you will convince anyone of anything over an internet discussion. Save the debate for real life. Relax. Let the peace of the music permeate your life and your attitude, and let's be a little more patient and accepting of one another and our different perspectives.
I am muslim, and I think this is beautiful. Anything uplifting which has a pure intention is good. regardless of religion. Religion is a means to an end. the end being God. or Goodness.
well, you're pretty much wrong you know. All Religions end in different ways, not necessarily an end to existence. Also, all God's are different, for every religion. Your "God" doesn't incorporate Christ, the savior of humanity and king of kings. Judaism doesn't incorporate him as well and disregards many of the divine teachings. Buddhism doesn't have a "god" only enlightenment. Hinduism has many different "god's" and I could go on and on. Your religion is false as well, I'm sorry to say.
wow not only are you extrodianrily close minded and narrow but dissresective as a whole. I think I can even understand Summerz. I question everything and so I don't fit in a religon but what he/she said was right. Enlightenment is a goodness which is why summerz said God or Goodness. Plus you have an extrodinarily closed minded perspected because you see others views and say NO your wrong. Well I wont say that your religon is wrong, I wont know till I die, but you yourself are wrong as a person.
Okay, we all have our own faiths. And the truth is, we'll never know the truth until we die. Personally, I am a Christian and believe that is the truth. In the end I may be wrong. But there is still one absolute truth. In a Jewish Synagogue, a woman speaking to my class made the analogy of different witnesses to the same car accident. She said they have different perspectives, but they're all right in their own eyes. But in reality the crash only went down one way. And that's truth.
Great voices! Oh btw, alindastar, God does indeed love music...mentioning the harp and everything...it is rather unfortunate that Lucifer was the Angel of Music, isn't it? That such a beautiful art can be trashed by him...it says in the bible about satan's very movements flowing with music...of course this was while he was still an archangel, and before his rebellion...
capnchrist, though i'm not a religious person, and i like their voices,i'm still gonna say that, satan in all forms, still is the angel of music, and you gotta agree for all the fans around the world, like metal/heavy metal musics which often has 'Satan' in it.I'm not a metal fan,but yea,and yes,i have nothing to do with satan and all his alies.
I might not know to much about religion... but i do enjoy music and these singers are by far beyond a lot of people out there today. I WISH NOTHING BUT PEACE AND LOVE FOR THESE GUYS~!!!
Truly beautiful and we know that God loves music because we are told in the bible that David played a beautiful harp and was a man after God's own heart.

uhh, depends on which strain of Buddhism you believe in, there are various groups who believe various things and some actually do hold that Buddha was/is (some form) of a deity
did you you know that this whole sudden repopulisation of gregorian-ish chants was started by the x box game halo, which features gregorian chant. i was in school 1 morning when my friends came in singing chants, saying that the song off halo was really cool, jst goes to show that maybe video games good bring back culture.
actually, crazywales, this type of music experienced a resurgence in popularity in the mid 1990's. i dont recall if "Enigma" or (the benedictine)"Chant" came first, but both were selling millions of albums featuring chant music. but yes, Halo has it in the intro music, also some in-game music. so you dont think my correction missed your point, if very young people are now being exposed to good music and culture through a video game that's definitely a plus.

Their voices aren't *that* powerful, however the harmonies & blend are beautiful. Very peaceful.
