I have quail in my yard too, and the first time I saw them do that I just laughed. I posted a short video of them scratching in the snow for seeds. Look under "quail in bridgeport." It's funny to watch them scratching in the snow!
thats cool. where is this? any tips on how to get more quail on a property? ive read the whole deal with more cover but doesnt seem to matter cuz i have plenty of it. one yr there is 1 large cover and then wont see any the next yr.
wow... that's adorable :) so many of them! i have japanese quail in my yard that do the same thing... and drop little eggs everywhere and never sit on them :)
@Parkjisung91 The quail do not lay their eggs in my yard and good thing they don't. The neighborhood cats kill every baby they can get their claws on. Sadly, that is most of the babies that new parents bring to my place. It's heartbreaking. The cats also kill the adults, or at least they try. I like cats but they devastate bird populations and other vulnerable wildlife for about a three mile radius around where they live.

That is some fine cinematography !! I think the photographer might just have a shot at a second career for National Geographic, or Mutual of Omaha like Marvin Perkins...keep up the good work. Delmont C. Roosevelt
ide love to live that close to a covey of quail. the best quail hunting where i live is about 1.5 hours away =( . youre very lucky to have that many in a covey.
im in southern nevada. quail hunting has been down the pisser here for about 3 years too. this year we had good rain and good quail production, and if we can get a few more years like this one, the quail might be back in 2-3 years...

@claybone22 plant big trees and low shrubs for them to hide... and start letting insects go mad... especially locusts :p

How cool! I hatched out some baby quail and am trying to raise them right now to help repopulate my area. I love the whistle sounds they make.

there's that many california valley quails where you live?
tbounma 5 years ago
This isn't half of them. They are part of a huge group that lives next door under the neighbor's giant Indian Willow tree.

What city and state do you live in. I would love to live where quails come out and play in my backyard like that.
