You believe in Geezeus. Yes? You want to follow his teachings. Yes? Sure you do so why to you live in a massive house and live a very wealthy lifestyle when Geezeus says you should live in poverty. Ray Comfort. You're a cock.
@William00048 not only that. but if jesus was nazaret like the bible claim he whuld have no hair or facial hair and he whuld have not used alcohol and whuld have avoided all earthly desires. so yeah. founder of christianity was hypocrit and ass.
I think this is rather interesting especially since rather recently I would allow (even though I knew) a woman of dubious character intrude on my stuff without my consent because I felt indebted to her. Things such as hacking into my library account to more...criminal stuff.
The same woman who would later keep urging that I continued to comply so that she could set me up. Very odd.
I'm still hoping to eventually get a profile on this woman...
Let me get this straight, Ray. One person curses at you because you cut him off in traffic. Another sneaks up behind you and plunges a knife into your back. You're telling me that the one is no better or worse than the other?
"Being angry" is the same thing as "being a murderer at heart?" What does that make God?
"Have you kept the Ten Commandments?"
Well no. Many times, I have coveted my neighbor's wife, my neighbor's job, my neighbor and her ass, I have not once kept the feast of weeks, and dangit, I just can't seem to stop boiling those goats in their mother's milk.
Well, I guess I have committed "murder in my heart" because I hate pedophiles who molest little children, I hate rapists and bullies, so I must have murdered a few million people "in my heart" because I hate them. I only wish that it were an actual physical killing of these low-life scum-bags. And if I'm going to Hell because I hate scum-bags, then I don't want to be in heaven with Christian pedophiles and Christian wife beating rapists! I would rather go to Hell with a clear conscience!
@ministeroftuba Buy the Robert Cialdini book "Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion”. All the examples given in this video were taken from that book.
Can you give a source for the "foot-in-the-door" experiment? I may need to use that for other arguments I am trying to make about security compliance in airports and other things.
For the second round of the soap/inventory experiment, did they only call the people who were already innately compliant enough the first time around to answer the questions? If so, isn't that a selection bias? I'd say No to both, but my second No would be excluded from the second sample. Maybe that exclusion explains where some of the additional 30.6% comes from?
Ask me about the Ten Commandments, I will respond, "Which ones?". There are two sets, Exodus 20, the famous ones and Exodus 34, the bat shit crazy ones if you read em.
As always, your videos are a joy to watch and think about. Like many others before me have said, the psychological approach you take against religious belief, rather than the biological or the philosophical approaches that many other take, are refreshing. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the kind feedback. And thank you to everyone else who posted as well. I am very glad that you all enjoy the videos. There are still more in the queue that I think you will really enjoy, so be sure to stay tuned! :D
Sometimes I wonder how much these videos are edited. That is, how many people shot down Ray in a fit of laughter and ridicule before he finally stumbled into that one poor sap who was willing to listen?
@AntiCitizenX Well people are generally very amiable and friendly folks very willing to listen to even the most insane prattle especially when you shove a camera in their face. So I imagine yes it is heavily edited but more because people don't give the proper responses not laughed at them *sigh*
Oh, so THAT's why I have heart problems? The tiny people that I murdered in my heart are clogging my arteries with their tiny dead rotting bodies! Well, thanks for that diagnosis Dr. Comfort, I'll have a tiny dead people-ectomy right away!
Haha! From the first experiment you mentioned, I was thinking "SALES TECHNIQUES!!!" Having worked in that line of work, I recognized all of them. Felt a little nostalgic going through them all again actually.
Kudos to you for catching this. I was actually a bit torn over this idea for a while. We could probably debate for an hour over whether it was foot-in-the-door or door-in-the-face. However, I decided to lean more with FITD since he asks lots of little questions to lead up to the big one. This is also how all his other commandments tend to go as well.
"Have you ever told a lie?"
"Yes."
"So you're a liar."
Not really DITF here. However, check the fourth reference at the end anyway :)
I inserted an edit into the video description to talk about DITF and address your comment. I think you are right, in that there are definitely some hints DITF in Ray's questions as well.
Thank you for the complements. One other thing I would like some feedback on is if my voice sounds less annoying in this one. I used to bark into the mic from two feet away, which tended to sound aggravating and condescending. This time I just talked into it from about 4 inches.
I agree with you about that. It would certainly help bring up more children to think for themselves and they can become adults, who have better developed minds by the time they go out into the real world.
It actually is taught in schools. Unfortunately, the only "schools" that teach it are college-level psychology departments. I personally got halfway through a technical MS degree before even causally stumbling into this stuff. So I guess YouTube will have to do for now :(
I have an issue with these experiments. You don't reveal what percentage of people accept the first, more minor request.
Without this information the increased percentage relative to the control can simply be explained by the fact that the sample was selected. (Those willing to answer a few questions on the phone are more willing to consent to the intrusion, people who wouldn't even agree to the phone survey would never consent to the search.)
The second part of each experiment asked only people who were willing to consent to the phone thing to whether they would consent to the search. Whereas the control asked an unbiased sample (a mix of those who would and would not consent to the lesser phone survey) whether they would consent to the search.
As such it is impossible to know how much was the result of pre-conditioning (as opposed to selection bias) without knowing the percentage of people who consented to the phone survey.
"In all of these two-contact conditions some subjects did not agree to the requests or even hung up before the requests were made. Every subject who answered the phone was included in the analysis of the results and was contacted for the second request regardless of her extent of cooperativeness."
They almost perfected their pressure sales technique and are a very successful MLM-system... However, if one thinks about the techniques used and recognises them, when applied, they are easily to rebutt...
Great video and extremely true! Amazing... and sad. People need to know these sorts of things about their own weaknesses to make better decisions in life. So great job! :)

Excellent illumination of psychopathic control mechanisms..
But it is equally applicable to theist and non-theists alike and is NO aid in favor or against evidence of God..
It would APPEAR you are deceptive or ignorantly trying to link them in YOUR FAVOR?
Right AFTER teaching us the VERY DANGER of said deception..
Wow you got Grosso Cahones Amigo!

it doesn't matter what kind of people they surveyed.
even if the respondents were all gullible people. The experiment shows that they became more compliant.
It doesn't matter how willing they were. What is important to note is that they became more willing.

@Morkindie You misunderstand my point.
The second part of each experiment asked only people who were willing to consent to the phone thing to whether they would consent to the search.
