anyone able to find a thindpad style digitizer pen for this thing? i looked all around and could not find any stylus that is pointy and writes like an actual pen. they're all huge rubber balls that feels weird to write with.
Hi i am just wondering about the prime because i've been looking at reviews from other people and they stated that the prime has a flaw and that's the wi-fi and gps having awful connection. is that true? i want to get it but because of this i am not sure anymore
For all of you that are wondering if you can do Office and other Windows based apps, this tablet can be dual booted. So you can run it in Android 4.0, Ubuntu, or even Tablet Windows 8. Currently there aren't translations for Office due to x86 and x64 differences, but they will soon come out. At which point it replace a laptop except for high end 3D rendering and sound recording.
Sorry o break it up to y'all, but iPads r not old tech...so no, can't use the argument that iPads r old, they r not, let's see what apple does since Jobs died...iPhone 5 blows up on first run lol
@andrei89 Use Google Docs instead, it's free.. also skype is on the android marketplace.
If you want Microsoft word (idk why since there are many free alternatives that are just as good and sometimes better), buy an actual laptop or netbook, not an android tablet.
Yea the thing is that just some people think if they buy something apple brand that they are special and start acting ridiculous. And there are the other kind of people who just laugh about each apples mistakes, basically apple haters, the thing is that both of these kinds of people are totally equal fools.
@vizbao300 Gaming on battery saver mode does make it play at a less fps. So it just becomes very jumpy and slow instead of being smooth and fast in normal mode. The person in this video actually has already unboxed it btw. What's inside when you open it for the first time is the tablet covered with clear plastic you peel off and it fits tightly into the box and there is actually foam at the top of the box. This prevents it from shaking around during delivery and prevents it from any damage.
Can you answer two question? Is the gaming performance fuzzy, or anything like that on battery saving mode instead of "normal" mode? And will there be more cushion or "protective" material in the box to protect Asus's future tablets? I don't want my tablets to get damaged or anything if any mishandling occur during shipping.
@ definingmoments7 yeah if you dont mind waiting a few months then asus is releasing a quad core table for 250 bucks...its basically this tablet but with a smaller screen
Tryna find a tablet more affordable than a iPad or prime, have the money but the price is more than what I would like to pay for a tablet, any tablets that are great and cheap?
@definingmoments7 try the sony tablet s. Only $399 for the 16 gig model and has an sd card slot so storage space is not an issue. Comes with a built in universal remote and has playstation games built into the system. Very good tablet for a good price.
why is everyboday always showing a game , i wont pay 500 for this to play games on it i want so that i can replace my laptop when traveling not to replace a ps3 or xbox
@asusrog next time please take a portable microphone and put on ur cloth to make the sound clear and loud!! I can't even hear u clearly also have echo sound too!!
Just ordered From Best Buy :) This will be my first Asus Product Ever! Can't wait to rub it into my friends and my cousin who got a Ipaid 2 Much for Christmas ^_^
this device looks very promising given its specs.. it's just frustrating that i pre-ordered mine on November from Staples and I still haven't received it yet :(
Surely it must be a crime to not have my transformer prime by the dec 25th, christmas time. i feel so sad, sad as a mime and leaves a sour taste, taste of lime Oh santa please, make it mine that transformer prime, so sublime. Thats it, now, im out of rhyme time to make a dangerous climb to the north pole to give santa a chime. to let him know i want my prime
I wonder why we still dont see any versions that we can put in a sim card for 3g/4g? I mean what good is it unles we have access when no wi-fi is available?
I was thinking exactly the same, till recently when I thought about it more. Honestly speaking, you won't need the 3g, and even if you did, you'd have that on your phone (assuming your phone does tethering). So all I need to do is set the phone on tethering and use my tablet.
How much is a mini hdmi to the tv thing cost? (I don't know much about how to connect a tablet to a tv) What would I need to do to get the tablet onto the tv?
@BrandinoG that is all you need. Although make sure to get the correct cable. There is a difference between Mini hdmi and Micro hdmi. Unfortunately I don't recall which one the Prime uses.
Where is the 16 gb version like the old one? The price was way more affordable and with the money you save from buying the cheap version you could buy the keyboard but with new transformer the price of 650 to get the cheapest model and keyboard and it's way too much for a tablet even though its one of the best ones. You are better of buying a mid range laptop for 700 bucks. Sorry Asus i loved the the first transformer but this one seems to be out of my price range for a tablet.
@chistogo3 the thing is though..tablet wise this is actually cheapers than an ipad 2 with the keyboard dock while being at least 2-4 times as powerfull. Plus the screen is higher quality (hello super ips +) than an hd laptop as well as the prim having over 4 times the battery life of any decent laptop...windows 8 will be arm compatible so a developer will definitely hack it onto the prime so the os is there (although ICS) is HEAVILY optimized (think IOS smoothness for Android)..
@Halo7x7 I am also a student. I am looking for device i can get my work done on and play some games on my down time. The Transformer Prime look ideal for these purposes. I mean 18 hour battery life is crazy awesome. Windows 8 is a bit steep I would say for the device. I realize its a quad core but its a 1.3 GHz Quad-core. So overclocking would be recommended. Anyway Remote Desktop seems more practical till it gets all worked out.
@Halo7x7 I guess the only reason i got on my soapbox about the price was that the last generation had cheaper models and since they upgraded to Tegra 3 they had to raise prices. Boils down to if i had the money i would get it.
@chistogo3 for me anyway the prime is a better option than a laptop mainly because of the better battery as well as the higher quality screen while still being portable (im a student so i need portability and a touch screen is easier to work on)..Also if i really do need to do something from my main pc (its a gaming pc so its pretty powerful) i can just use SplashTop to Host a remote server and therefore i can do everything from my pc on my Prime (while still having a great Battery).
What kinds of programs will I be able to use comparable to Microsoft Office on tablets? I'm thinking of getting something like this for school next year and would this serve as a replacement laptop?
@whatismyusername2882 It definitely comes close to bridging that gap between tablets and fully functional laptops, but not exactly. It will do your word processing, excel, email, music, photos etc. but obviously it wont be a full windows notebook replacement. With windows 8 being released in 2012 with tablets thinner and lighter than this being promised (and showcased) from Samsung and others already, you might want to hold off for a bit longer if you can for full laptop like functionality.
@rahmanroni Or...you could get it now and then when W8 is released wait a month or two for fully working rom ported to the Prime :) hopefully with a way to dual boot android and w8 :O that would be so cool!
I heard from multiple sources (Phandroid, XDA, Transformer Forums, etc) that the Prime is delayed internationally due to Wifi problems. Is this true?
On a side note, does Asus give a fuck about its customers? Enough with tweeting shit about how reviewers are praising the device. No up to date information, no official release dates, no responses to rumours. So we put down $700 dollars to preorder this and this is the kind of shit that we get? Way to treat your customers Asus.
I hate that people are using Honeycomb as a non-selling point for this, fucking idiots, it'll be running slow Honeycomb for a couple weeks, then it'll be fast as greased lightning with ICS.
@joba78 - it's pretty sturdy - I think it would be fine the way you reference it although I don't know why you would do that. There are two latches that hold it in place.
Holy poopy this is the best tablet ever! 10x better than ipad, galaxy tab and xoom 2 combined! No wonder I can't even get a website that hasn't sold out in pre-orders!
Not a question specific to this tablet, but can you ever hide the menu bar when playing a game? I feel like it would be really easy to accidentally hit something when you hold it in landscape like that.
not a bad review, you should go a little more in detail about features that haven't already been shown on debut though: browser speed, other apps, how well it works with new apps, ics.... also, your audio kinda sucks; there are some tutorials out there that show you how to get tv/movie-ish quality audio with a mobile mic
Great review!! Very thorough and detailed. Appreciated multiple camera angles.
Constructive criticism: it would be a huge improvement if you used a microphone in the wide shots... I could barely hear your voice in them. An inexpensive lavalier microphone would do wonders! (about $20 on amazon)
I have been trying to find ASUS battery replacement policy but couldn't find one. The tablet and keyboard have both built-in batteries. Lithium batteries range from 500-1,000 charge cycles (about 14 months average use). I can't seem to find any manufacturer's policy, repair fees, etc. on battery replacement beyond the devices' warranty period. Could you post the link for all of us? Thanks!
@slayaman22232 - I'll try to put together a video this week with the iPad 2 vs. Prime to compare browser performance, brightness, sound, etc. That should give everyone a good idea!
@slayaman22232 Just played with this beast at Gamestop. The speaker is loud and has decent quality. Although, if you are right handed you will find yourself covering the speaker up quite often. The gaming and screen is sick though.
@yogman10 I'm sure some people can. I know I can see it on many other touch devices even though I don't look for it. Just about everything bothers me, but that doesn't, so don't worry.

@TrojaSucks Not very well. I wouldn't recommend it: The Prime is lighter and thinner, so while you may be able to attach it, it would not be a sturdy fit.
@olds442hurst - The Transformer and Transformer Prime both have Netflix. The original Transformer got an update a few weeks ago that added official support.
can you print off of it?

Would the docking-station from my TF101 work on the Prime?
TrojaSucks 2 months ago
