Does it make any sense for him to do this? If he's gonna balance retarded overbets then he's gonna have plenty of draws on this board, why take such a crap hand and do it?
@johnmrrs Yeah but looking at it this way will not get you no where he is risking 300,000 with a HIGH probability that his opp will fold a better hand there
cant feel sorry for him we have seen him bust people for millions and that guy that bet that with nothing wow is a freak talk about being in someone's head
How could Phil have known whether or not Brady would've played aces that way? They hadn't played much before. And, FYI, trapping with AA doesn't always work. If Ivey didn't think Brad had AA, then what would you say that Ivey thought Booth had? Seriously, who's going to ask their opponent for a chip count (on the preflop) holding 3-3, 7-7, 6-6, or 7-6? And, he's not asking for one holding 4-5. Logically, those are the only hands that Ivey couldn't call/beat on an all-in raise here.
No professional poker player plays their hole cards the same way every single time, in every situation. Fast-playing AA is not uncommon. Booth went on to claim that Ivey probably folded because he didn't want to be seen making a bad call on television. None of the hands that Phil couldn't beat on the flop made sense for Booth to have other than AA (unless you completely ignore Booth's preflop behavior). Ivey couldn't fold here unless he believed Booth had something on the preflop.
Against a weaker player, trapping with AA makes sense. But, I think a lot of people would want to fast-play AA against Ivey b/c he has the table image of being able to outplay ppl with any two cards. When facing such an unpredictable player, it makes sense to protect your over-cards (from a suckout or a bluff) which is what Booth is pretending to do here. And, the only over cards that Ivey couldn't beat here are AA. So, it's entirely plausible that Booth would play aces that way.
((@PeikkoKuningas95 What the fuck is wrong with you? In 2012, you're really proud to show everyone just how ignorant and uneducated you are? You should be embarrassed, you look foolish.
I think you have it backwards. Ivey has gone on the record to say that the main reason why he folded here was because he hadn't really played with Booth before. So, he didn't know Booth's tendencies/style. And, the raise was so huge on such a small pot (13x Ivey's flop bet), it just didn't make sense to call even though his heart probably told him otherwise. If it was any player he was familiar with, then he probably would've called. But, there were too many unknowns here.
how do you beat a play like that, call every time and see the set most of the time? omg, this kind of poker is just fucking sick crazy unbeatable, that's what puts me on tilt, people that beat me in poker, i hate them, i hope they go to heaven
@prodigy051985 The point is if the player shows immediately, the others players at the table will know how he plays. Therefore, he will be less likely to successfully bluff or to win hands at all during the playing session.
i think hes a huge underdog or flipping many of the times. the push was too big to call, its not TOO bad to fold there. cred for booth not giving away anything that made him call tho
@aloefgren what is a flip with kk's, against a 3, 7, 6 off suit? Nothing is the answer. Any set is way ahead, 5-1, any draw is behind way behind, aa\s is way ahead, any lower pair is way behind.
No, there are no flips here. He is either way ahead, which he was, or way behind.
He didnt want to take the chance of running into trips. Thats why he folded.
@mangeunscio He clearly tells a story of how he just hit his 45 diamonds , but now is scared of the diamond flush, that is the reason of the allin. If Ivey had AK diamond, this move would make a call very hard.
Great bluff... and actually a good fold. ( unless Ivey got a read on some weakness, and as he is one of the pokerworlds best readers i assume he didnt.)

@SpikeyOut for the exact reasons u gave, phil folded. when a play like that happens it throws everything out of balance. there is no possible way phil can call which is exactly why brad did that.
Brad might balance his play and do this shove sometimes with a set but i think ( i may be wrong) that it's more likely to be a sick bluff (big moniez: 300k shove ) on TV for ego so i don't think he is gonna do that with a set and "spew" the chance to get value from overpairs on later street by shoving a set here
No, asking your opponent his stack is more likely indicating that the guy is setmining with a small pair or that he has suited connectors so he is counting his implied odds.

Ivey may have a big overpair, but he's getting a bad price to call against Booth's perceived range, even if that range were to be that wide and have a lot of semi-bluffs. @danielvandam Guess you didn't the see the exact same situation - Negreanu vs Matasow - Matasow goes allin for 200K with a draw. Negreanu call with one overpair in his hand.
@bottleracket true, I didnt but I do know Negreanu thinks the situation through very well every time. I think that must have been a total missread then
Yeah, but Hellmuth woulda called that and woulda gotten beaten by runner-runner, "What is going on here... The guy calls me with 4-2. He's practically just giving me his money... I knew he was weak. I got him all in... What is this?!"
@CardSharkVeteran No he did not. He would not have made this play without the equity with the backdoor draw and gutshot. He called initially because they are both very very very deep for the blinds they are playing making it profitable to call Ivey's 3bet with suited/gap suited connectors.
@fliptthescript you dont understand. dwan does this not just to win pot but so that when he makes that move when he has the goods he can get more calls in those situations
@fliptthescript It works because he does that same play with his value hands allowing him to makeup the difference in risking 100k to win 30k allowing him to get called when he has it more often.
If you look at brad it's so obvious he's bluffing... I say 'obvious' whether I could make the call is a completely different question because the natter of the fact is it's such a terrible mad insane just wild play that I would almost surely convince myself that hew trying to act nervous and he's a grate actor

Negreanu woulda called that in a second
bottleracket 5 months ago 35
@bottleracket no he wouldnt?
danielvandam 2 months ago
@danielvandam Guess you didn't the see the exact same situation - Negreanu vs Matasow - Matasow goes allin for 200K with a draw. Negreanu call with one overpair in his hand.
bottleracket 2 months ago
@bottleracket true, I didnt but I do know Negreanu thinks the situation through very well every time. I think that must have been a total missread then
danielvandam 2 months ago
@bottleracket NO he would have tanked and attentionw****d for 5 min. Then he would have called.
darkkeijp 3 weeks ago
@bottleracket
Yeah, but Hellmuth woulda called that and woulda gotten beaten by runner-runner, "What is going on here... The guy calls me with 4-2. He's practically just giving me his money... I knew he was weak. I got him all in... What is this?!"
MacBubbles 2 weeks ago 2
@MacBubbles haha yeah Hellmuth has always bad luck=) sometimes i feel sorry for him..^^

@simos901 i read differently. i read "FOLD FOLD FOLD FOLD!!!!!!!!!!"
golfmaniac007 4 months ago
@CardSharkVeteran No he did not. He would not have made this play without the equity with the backdoor draw and gutshot. He called initially because they are both very very very deep for the blinds they are playing making it profitable to call Ivey's 3bet with suited/gap suited connectors.

evanskrete1 9 months ago
@evanskrete1 right, play 42 in a bad position is wrong,it doesnt matters to me what happens after that
gnillortmi 9 months ago
oh god dwan does this all the time over bet pots for 30 k and risk 100s of thousands eveyrone says oh great play bull.
fliptthescript 9 months ago
@fliptthescript you dont understand. dwan does this not just to win pot but so that when he makes that move when he has the goods he can get more calls in those situations
kuja900 9 months ago
@fliptthescript It works because he does that same play with his value hands allowing him to makeup the difference in risking 100k to win 30k allowing him to get called when he has it more often.

The only thing that doesnt make sense to me is why he re raised Williams, because normally wouldn't you just flat call a utg raise with 6's or 7's?

1234bboys 10 months ago
If you look at brad it's so obvious he's bluffing... I say 'obvious' whether I could make the call is a completely different question because the natter of the fact is it's such a terrible mad insane just wild play that I would almost surely convince myself that hew trying to act nervous and he's a grate actor
