  • is that baker Jim Henson? His voice sounds like Kermit...

  • I remember this.

  • Now THIS is classic TV! Yes, this is extremely funny, I haven't seen it in years! Thanks so much for posting, it brings back such pleasant memories!

  • Where them cakes at?

  • I think the only reason they stopped at 10 is because the bakery fired the baker for dropping all of the food, then he sued the bakery for slipping on the steps. LOL

  • Hey! The guy bowling I also remember being in the Sanford and Son episode when they went to the bank and it was robbed. He was the loan officer Mr. Phillips or as Fred called him "Mr Magnesia or Maggie," jokingly referring to milk of magnesia.

  • If you pause at 1:03, just as a "10" starts to fill the screen from the 10 pins, you can see a split-second shot of the Indians.

  • I have no idea why but these number things always creep me out

  • I loved all those baker sketches, especially how he'd fall and his baking would go splatch all over the place. Who says slapstick comedy is dead?

  • THE BALL DIDN'T TOUCH THOSE BOWLING PINS

  • I think they took out 10 little indians

  • @nighttrane1 No, the bolling ball did not take all of them out; the pins on the slanting left side row were not touched by either the rolling boll or any of the other falling pins.

  • @7olusegun Sorry, I should have been clearer, I meant that the 10 little indians segment was removed....Sorry!

  • That is Jim Henson's voice at the end announcing the 10 chocolate layer cakes. I don't think that guy falling down the stairs is him though.

  • You are kidding! I used to imitate the falling baker too! We had a really cool winding staircase that was perfect. I miss quality children's programs.

  • Seeing this I now recall a segment within Family Guy, whereby a guy comes out with "10 Banana Cream Pies" and gets em all over himself when Lois and Gloria Ironbox were battling over women's rights..

"Season 2, I am Peter, Hear me Roar"

  • @ulij20 I loved the "five fingers" lady! Maybe it was her short, modern haircut; or her patient, careful, no-nonsense diction; but when I was a kid in the 1970s, she always reminded me of Louise McNamara from "All About You." I had a big crush on Louise McNamara when I was 6.

  • lol. Even as an adult i still find the falling baker at the end hysterically funny.

  • The worst baker in history!

  • this was my all time favorite

     segment

  • I loved the baker falling down the stairs and busting his butt!! Still funny after 40 years!

  • THIS TAKES ME BACK WHEN WHITES THOUGHT THEY WERE ALWAYS ALL THAT IMPORTANT WHEN REALLY THEY WERENT

  • @MrPeoplefinder dumbass

  • @85buickV8 -IN REPLY TO YOUR COMMENT "dumbass"-TRY AGAIN-IT SEEMS YOUR KIND IS ACCUSTOMED TO CALLING YOURSELVES SUCH QUITE WELL!

  • @jfkx007 absolutely. I share your sentiment 100%.

  • OMG!! I sing this to my kids ALL the time **squeals**

  • anyone remember being a kid and being excited that the number countdown went to 10??? I used to love when we got to see the 10 chocolate layer cakes!

    Ah, good times

  • @jfkx007 Yes! You never knew what number they were going to stop at, so the suspense would build as the chorus counted up "one, two, three, four, five, six ..." before the actual number exploded.

If it was a low number, like two or three, it seemed anticlimactic and disappointing. But, man, did the tension build toward the higher numbers! In fact, notice how the melody repeats for "seven, eight" ... and when it got all the way to 10, woohoo! I was ecstatic! Hahaha.

  • 40 people fell down the steps with 10 chocolate cakes

  • @ndingo lol! good one!

  • This rocks!!!!!

  • They took out the 10 little indians, but left the Charlie Weaver Bartender toy in?

  • I've actually pictured the baker's part in this segment being little more climactic if you know what I mean. Once the name of the dessert he is carrying is announced he this time tiptoes bown the steps, making it down safely but then when he starts on he steps on a uh, a banana peel which makes him slip and fall over backwards and then all the cakes fall on him.

  • If anyone's interested the voice of the baker is actually Jim Henson's voice

  • You would think that after all the other attempts of trying to navigate those stairs carrying desserts the baker would yield on the side of caution and not attempt the stairs anymore.

  • Who is the professor? He sounds like the Winnie-The-Pooh narrator.

  • holyfuck i just had an epileptic fit

  • so glad i watched this video. cleared a lot of things up for me. like how to count to 10 :D

  • *Loved* this when I was little and I still do, but the waste of 10 perfectly good chocolate layer cakes grieves me now that I'm grown.

    Chocolate...mmmm....

  • The baker sounds a lot like Kermit the Frog.

  • @LanakilaIesu thats because its jim henson

  • Love this

  • Didn't they stop using these around 1980? I read that a lot of kids were getting hurt imitating the baker falling.

  • Remind me never to hire this baker!

  • 10 Banana creammm pieeeeeeees!

  • I always used to feel sorry for that poor bastard. All that work, he goes ass-over-teakettle down the steps, and it's ruined and he's covered in shit.

  • Lsd and children show not a good combo

  • The Chef at the end has always killed me laughing...for 40 years LMAO!!!!!!!!!! :-D

  • Comment removed

  • I like how the the bowling pins just fall down without being touched lol

  • 10 chocolate what cakes??

  • @LiteracyLabyrinth chocolate layer cakes

  • @LiteracyLabyrinth layer cakes

  • @25193 not anymore rofl

  • HOW COULD 37 not like blasphemous any one remember MR HOOPER" "?

  • 10 ftw.

  • 10 PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES.....AH AH AH AH AH AH!!!

  • am in my forties and am still engrosed xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • I'm having so much fun right now, looking at all these old classic counting segments from Sesame Street that I used to watch as a kid. Thank God for YouTube! :)

  • I read somewhere that they stopped doing this because we we're all falling down the stairs like this guy, who was a professional stuntman. I thought it was the funniest shit when I was a kid. I would eagerly wait for that guy to fall down!

  • Thus question does not ppertain to this vid but does anyone remember a skit where there was a mother egg and she had eight little eggs coming out or either going back into her? She was shaped like an egg and she split in half and her little egg children came out...HELP!!!

  • @mssolitare

I, myself, am trying to find the film where the Afro-American boy puts on his pajamas and goes to bed with his teddy bear. This video ends with the teddy bear winking.

  • @mssolitare I think you are referring to the Matryoshka dolls skit. Search for "Sesame Street Matryoshka" and I think you'll find the one you're looking for (I had forgotten about it!)

  • @Bonnie2427 Oh wow!!! Thank you so much! I'm going to search in a moment for the doll skit..it was one of my favorites too!

  • @Bonnie2427 Yep just saw the video..wow I have not seen that in 20 years or so! Thanks again..I never knew the exact name for them, I just called them eggs...

  • @mssolitare They were Russian Dolls, I remember that! Maybe go to the Sesame Street channel, it might be there

  • Mind blowing aye!! Never knew there were so many uses for the number 10!!

  • You must know Triangles to get a PHD with that professor!

  • any more? of this same series

  • Holy crayola, I'd crap myself if this was in 3D.

  • 10 chocolate layer cakes!!!!! YEAH!!!

  • OMG! This takes me way back to 1970 when I was 11. I'm 51 now. :o

  • LOL 1:10

  • Love it.. Brings back my youth...

  • Chuck Norris counted to infinity - twice.

  • 10 BANANA CREAM PIES *insert catfight*

  • This is classic!!!

  • @gomektampa:

No way. I've had MY share of tumbles...and two of them got me broken bones! THAT'S certainly not funny.

  • ROTFLMAO! When will that baker EVER learn?! Classic comedy, brings back fond memories!

  • 10.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ROFLMAO THE KIDS AT 1:18 looks like a retard HAHAHA HE MUST HAVE AUTISM OR SOMTHING OMFG HAHAHA HE LOOKS SO FUCKING RETARDED

  • 10 Shitty Guest Hosts

  • the random asian at the end was my favorite part.

  • Which falling baker scenes have ones where he tastes the food after he falls, shakes off the food off his hands after he falls, and sits down shaking after he falls?

  • wow, like a children's version of a lsd trip ..

  • My mother still rags on this segment today because I used to imitate the falling baker down the steps all the time. Never got hurt, but I'm sure I scared the living be-Jesus out of my mom more that once :-)

  • @anasella3

I'm not sure if I ever got around to immitating the fall, but if I didn't, it's just because my grandmother told me not to. She could see that, just like everyone else, I busted a gut every time he fell.

  • @anasella3 i love TEN BANA CREAM PIIIIIIIES and scream it out at Sci Fi conventions to this day

  • @anasella3 hahahah that is funny! poor mom

  • @anasella3 Waaaaaay too funny! Me and my sisters would endlessly recreate this segment! Sesame Street from the 70's forever!

  • Is the baker's voice done by Jim Henson?

  • 0:25

TEN!! TEN!! TEN!! OH MY GOD JESUS CHRlST THE NUMBER TEN YOU GUYS GOD DAMN IS THAT NUMBER TONS OF FUN OR WHAT

  • @Rogueofmv GOSH DARNIT THAT WASN'T AN ASPIRIN!!!! @_@ And I took freaking ten of them!!!

  • the way they animated that it looks alittle druggy

    hhahahha

  • 10 CHOCOLATE LAYER CAKES!!!!!

  • i think the baker is jim hensen himself

  • @st8oftheart ... you are correct.

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! the cake

  • I am looking for the Sst skit that goes "It's alive" I brethes, and ,eats and goes that that is how you know...yeah...yeah..yeah....

  • acid is a fun drug isn't it kids

  • the boy with toys is Pres. Obama hehehe :-)

  • love sesame street.. while my school was forced to segregate by income and race.. sesame street was diverse. That helped my views when I got older!

  • Was Brian Henson the kid with the bells?

  • cdcn b nxcbchbheeeehdh3grt6333378º777vvvsfxczvngqtyy3744444444456666666666666g

  • Sesame street is teaching me how to count!

    :D

but i think they were on a acid trip before this

  • fakest strike evar!

  • good one

  • That cant be good for your back every time, man!

  • ten ten and three more cheese is ten

  • My brother and I used to act this out on the beach with sand pies.

  • Poor baker! Still, that's hilarious.

  • Yeah I remember the guy, I think I used to feel sorry for him.

  • the baker who falls... that's Jim Henson...

  • @jjaecks71 Actually, Jim Henson does the voiceover, the baker is actually a stunt man named Alex Stevens.

  • Heeheehee... The guy with the cakes used to make me soooo mad when I was a kid! I couldn't understand why he fell every single time!! Lol

  • @wendeebop64:

I cried when he fell. Makes sense, don't you think? I mean, it's not funny if someone falls down.

  • @menslady125 Makes perfect sense! Preschool kids don't understand the concept of schadenfreude ;-)

It took me awhile to appreciate someone getting hit with a pie and even today it makes me cringe if the person taking the pie doesn't do it properly. If an actor doesn't take a pie in the face just right, it comes off looking pathetic and sad...but I digress!

  • Okay who else is counting to this? haha classic .

I loved the Sesame Street I grew up with.

  • The kids sound like they're shouting/singing - having a blast! Love it!

  • those bowling pins were totally rigged... very disappointing!

  • @jesustoopointoh all in the name of edumacation...

  • Wow! Seizure inducing!!!

  • LOL So cool. They don't make it like this anymore.

  • the comment below refers to the the boy with the 9 wind up toys since it posted out of sequence with the post I was replying to

  • where are the banana cream pies?

  • Was Brian Henson demonstrating 5 bells, and how many takes did they have for bowling a strike in the next sequence?

  • i heard that 1:04 has been for 10 little indians then some time later they were afraid of putting up with stero types and angry mobs so they dicided with 10 bells so angry mobs won't come and burn the segment but you can find the original segment around youtube some where

  • Interesting! I was just watching the original segment with "10 Little Indians". If you watch carefully you can see where the photographic cuts were made to insert the bell footage. As the "10" moves forward to the camera after the bowling scene, at 1:04 you can see the "Indians" inside the "10" if you pause right there. Also, notice that the "10" doesn't move toward the camera at the end of the "bell" skit-the camera just cuts to the wind-up toys. Very interesting!

  • nob noob muving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What do they sing at the end? "and that's all cos of ten!" ?

  • And that's our song of ten!

  • Thanks.

  • I think that they said "and that's the song of ten".

  • I love the classic Sesame Street I grew up on.

  • crapppppppppppppppppp!!!

  • number 6- look closey- 3 sixes at the bottom in a row and at top

  • sesame street cut out the monsters scene in baker # 5 so i'll might play the professor and say 5 octogons

  • Did you notice pins 1 5 and 8 fall down and nothing has hit them? Spooky

  • well spotted. They must have had a wind machine or something!

  • I guess film-stock was so expensive they had to do it one take. I always thought it was "and that's a/the song of ten"

  • Thank you.

  • Yeah,they must have.

  • OMG TY!!! This really brings back great memories!

  • I used to love taking the piss out of him when I was a kid. Surprised that he never had a nasty accident cos pies and cakes are very slippery if you spill them on the floor.

  • Oh, God, they desecrated THIS segment, too, with newly added sound effects?! Peace.

  • Feel like going back in time.....i enjoyed every segment of sesame street.....taught me about co-operation

  • 1:25 Ten Demo--crats

  • LOL, i substitute teach at preschools part time, and the lead teacher was singing the "10! 10! 10! lets sing a song of ten! how many is ten??!!!" to the toddlers and i was LMAO cause it was so off key, i was like, "did she make that up?" now i see where she got it from! lol

  • I still sing the countdown tune to this day.

Couldn't get away with the falling down the stairs with cake routine anymore. Health and safety!

  • LMAO. This brings back memories of the 70's for me. I always remembered the clumsy at the end always tripping on something. Thanks for sharing.

  • I wanna to be that chef when I was younger..Wanting to fall down the stairs with 10 choclate cakes...My Mom must of thought I was nuts

Its funny when you watch these as you graduley get older... thinking ´yeah we now how to count..now cut to the chef´.

  • haha that baker is awesome!!!

  • you the man, Jim Henson!!!

    ROFLMAO!

  • That Baker is fantastic!

  • I still would like to know how those sound efx were made

  • 10 rind up toys!

  • "10 rind up toys". I'm sure the director was telling him "Smile! keep smiling! don't forget to smile!" which actually made it impossible to enunciate correctly.

  • I am sure that he tried his best. Not everyone has perfect speech at age 5 or 6

  • @mrbpis I just laughed so hard I almost puked.

  • i still think that baker is such a clumsly ox.

  • The clumsy baker was Jim Henson himself. think about it, doesn't he sound like Kermit? I was so sad when he died.

  • OMG! I totally remember this. (And I'm 30 years old.) The clumsy baker was the BEST!! Laughed hard at that when I was a kid. Back in the 80's...

  • Gotta love that klutz baker. Why don't they show him anymore? Did he eventually bread...I mean break his neck falling down those stairs or what?

  • I went to see a Jim Henson film presentation in NY a few years ago and some Sesame street staff where there. They said some of that stuff was deemed too violent and the Elmo-ification has skewed the audience much younger now too.

  • OMG, I LOVE that ! I have n't seen that in YEARS! I used to love how they would put the numbers "on" whatever they were counting! That baker at the end is hysterical!

  • Our favorite cluttz!!

  • HA HA he fall down stairs!
