but sometimes emotion leads us to a wrong decision even though we know exactly what is right..i agree! I can remember the intensity of emotion during a traumatic event, but cannot recall the fact of the event. Selective amnesia?
I said this is why he ISN'T, although there was one episode of TOS where he was the commanding officer of a small crew while they were stranded on a planet.
You should always question what your decision making is based upon. If it based upon an emotional weakness, then the outcome is likely to lead to loss. Uncontructive patterns of behaviour is another factor because they affect how we tackle out negative states. Also, since we don't live in a vacumn, its essential to have the right people around you who can point out any errors your making. Beware those who support your choices based on a weakness.
It is the cognitive appraisal prior to any emotional impact that "marks things as good, bad or indifferent" - more accurately, promising threatening or inconsequential. The role of emotion in decision making is as part of one's totality of experience adjudged as relevant to the risks or promise attached to alternative courses of action. "Emotional states" are temporary moods or behavioral patterns which, though induced by emotional impact, are not emotions per se.
A difference should be made from Amoral and Moral emotions, I believe it was Kant that came up with the two concepts. I don't believe anyone experiencing Moral Emotions could rationally make a decision for the best outcome, while someone using amoral emotions would.
It would depend upon how utilitarian the decision is. Emotions can vary from second to second. Centering on utilitarian decision making processes is most useful for all.
@Therapyismywork the id vs superego 'type' of relationship causes the varying emotional appeal, correct? Utilitarian decisions do not always present themselves, i.e. id mindset drowns out the rationalizations of the superego
Ayn Rand called emotions lightning calculators, developed over a lifetime, that help you make decisions that match your values. But if your values are weak, your emotions may steer you wrong.
Emotion is our motivation for most decisions we consider to be rational. Pretty much all beliefs we have are because we have an emotional desire to those things (subconsciously sometimes) , whether we realize it or not. :|
Humans aren't rational beings, but we can get it right every now and then. Even a broken clock is right twice a day er... you know that saying. o- o

Metaphors, Parables, Mythologies, Stories. Just because something is fictional does not mean it isn't illustrative.

@micromilesaway No fucking shit Spock is a fictional character. But he's from a TV show, the movies come later.
But that series made alot of good social and philosophical points, this being one of them.
Also, you make no sense, you repeat words and everything is grammatically incorrect.

So emotional decisions are better when the stake is worth less than the time used by deliberation
