Then you have artists such as Ihsahn's latest release 'After' incorporating excellent use of the Saxophone with Progressive Metal. Or Karl Sanders solo work with middle eastern influences. His solo work is more Folk oriented. Where as Nile is more focused on Death Metal.

Depending on the genre within Metal lyrics often play a bigger part than the music. Or both excel equally. There are over two dozens of sub-genre's to Metal.
@trollamenos Bruce has his own signature way of singing. So does Rob Halford (As an example) and so did Dio. They're styles of music within Metal are also very different from the many Sub-Genre's IN the Metal Genre.
Comparing Bruce to say... Alan Averill, or Åkerfeldt is pointless as they have their own way of style of being a vocalist. Bruce gives off energy, Alan sings with power and emotion and Mikael can excel in all three.

Now obviously not all sub-genre's of metal are good. We all have opinions. Example: I can't stand Nu Metal, or any of that Emo garbage. But you'd be surprised just how many metal bands that started in the 80's/90's and even bands today, influenced by bands such as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rush... so on.
I myself love a few songs from Boston, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, so on. I also enjoy Amon Amarth, Nile, Pantera, Down, Opeth, Arkona... etc.

@trollamenos Your not looking beyond the bands we already know too much about. Bands such as Amorhpis, Blind Guardian, Dark Fortress (They did an excellent, dark cover of Sycamore Trees) Down, Eluveitie, Ensiferum, Falconer, Falkenbach, Iced Earth, Primordial.
Cradle of Filth, aside from the musical aspect, Dani has tremendous lyrical ability. Alexi has great ability with the guitar. But aside from that you need to dive deeper into the metal genre before condemning it, anyone really.
if don't understand the history behind metal or the reason of it's confidence and it's being respect by many guitarists then i'd advise u to turn around and walk way(theoretically speaking). to become a musician is like achieve a high goal and if you can't see this then your understanding of music is screwed.

@trollamenos Metal is Metal. Be it Sappy Ballads, to harsh vocals to clean passages to shredding guitar solos, keyboard solos, bass interludes, tremolo picking and blast beats, songs about Vikings, folklore and Satan. Concept Albums about, well anything, really.
Songs against injustice and war with growls or screams to accompany the harsh subject matter. Metal is Metal (Unless It's Emo/Screamo Bullshit or that terrible Rapcore shit)

@trollamenos As for machines manipulating their vocals is false. Alexi Laiho, Sakis Tolis, Allan Averil, Johan Hegg, Tim "The Ripper" Owns, Mikael Akerfeldt, Nergal... That's all talent behind their vocals. It's actually difficult to sing, growl or use Guttural vocals as they do.
Songs against Christianity or religion for that matter to be sung in clean vocals just does not fit the song, at all. It needs to be harsh, aggressive and brutal. Or songs about war, even.

Now obviously not all sub-genre's of metal are good. We all have opinions. Example: I can't stand Nu Metal, or any of that Emo garbage. But you'd be surprised just how many metal bands that started in the 80's/90's and even bands today, influenced by bands such as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rush... so on.
I myself love a few songs from Boston, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, so on. I also enjoy Amon Amarth, Nile, Pantera, Down, Opeth, Arkona... etc.

@trollamenos Your not looking beyond the bands we already know too much about. Bands such as Amorhpis, Blind Guardian, Dark Fortress (They did an excellent, dark cover of Sycamore Trees) Down, Eluveitie, Ensiferum, Falconer, Falkenbach, Iced Earth, Primordial.
Cradle of Filth, aside from the musical aspect, Dani has tremendous lyrical ability. Alexi has great ability with the guitar. But aside from that you need to dive deeper into the metal genre before condemning it, anyone really.
