Let me get this straight... you give Flight Board a low rating because you don't understand why people would want to know about flights they're not taking? Believe it or not, there are travel geeks out there that check out airline statuses for entertainment, or just to see how weather events are impacting air travel. The app does what it advertises, and in a beautiful package. If IDG App Review is going to give low ratings to apps it "doesn't understand," then I'll put my trust in other sources.
@GreatLakesJim thank you for the feedback. we're just trying to point out the best ways to spend time and money with apps. this is our first show, so we'll take your suggestions into consideration when producing the next one.
@nickbr007 This might be the first show, but considering IDG's history of covering tech, the standards are held higher. My point was that reviewing apps on advertised vs. actual utility, design, stability, etc. are relevant. Demoting based on the reviewer not being interested in the content, isn't (I couldn't care less about a great "Twilight" app, but that wouldn't justify a low rating for it). Your co-workers at Computerworld and Macworld do a fine job reviewing software; take cues from them.
@techben505 Actually, no. It's often a side activity of folks who do "plane spotting" (I research the tourism industry for a living, so I know that it's a real thing). I have a feeling that the more common use for Flight Board is related to seeing if weather or other situational incidents are affecting air traffic, but you'd have to ask the folks at Mobiata (the developers) to see what they report the common usage scenario as being.
Flight Control on iOS is not 99c, it is FREEEE.
