No matter how much I think Malmsteen sucks at soloing, this is a damn awesome song.

And he doesn't suck technicaly - no he just can't make solos worth of listen to more than one time. Glenn Tipton, Adrian Smith and all those just doesn't shred the fuck out of the guitar.

Malmsteen PLEASE use your skills to make a good solo. His melodies are awesome and the riffing is most of the time very good but the solos holy shit are they CRAP

@ildur I agree to a point. I love this song, but the solo goes from point A to Z. The technique is killer but this was about the time that Yngwie started losing his style. The arpeggio section, however is very sweet. I think one reason the solo sounds bland is that there is no real chord progressions behind it, just the thundering E string.

@epic103 Concerto has some impressive moments. I thought WTEAW and UTF had his best songs since Magnum Opus but his playing (thought still impressive) sounds kind of unfocused. I find he repeats his riffs much more than he used to. In his early days he came at harmonic minor in so many unique ways. Like he had a bigger bag of tricks and his playing left you wanting more.

during keyboard solos... Come on guys, really? Do you think they make live dvd:s by just filming a show and running it down to tape? Of course there's video editing going on. If it's a low budget footage - which we would have to consider this show being since yngwie never officially released it - the editing involves a lot of goofs like this. Look at the leningrad dvd - on that dvd he even change guitars to different colour strats in the middle of songs... Yngwie dubbed, yeah right?

@ildur what's your point here mate? Yeah - during the verse of never die he would probably be at the same spot over several nights - since he is singing the backing vocals in the verses. At 1:52 they probably had some problem with just those seconds (could be lightning or something else) and they just edited in those seconds from somewhere else. They could've just edited in parts from a totally different part of the show - that second could be e g a keyboard solo as yngwie usually does that

I really don't see the point people are trying to make. Ok, once again - when an artist or a label decides to make a live dvd it is very common to book a large venue and also book it more than one night and film and record all the shows - just to cover their asses. Iron maiden live after death - 3 nights, Metallicas binge and purge - 3 nights in san diego...

And he sometimes "plays" with his hands in the air but.

Also jumping around that should have some kind of affect on the playing too.

@ildur You gotta be kidding? Of course he's not dubbed. Ever heard of video editing? Probably he played the venue several nights in row and filmed all nights. This is very common in the business. You can see the same thing if you watch Iron maidens live after death - they played the long beach arena 3 nights in a row to get as much video and audio material as possible - start to edit between the nights and you get "goofs" watch live in leningrad - there he even switch guitars in middle of songs

@ildur I'll give you some interesting info: every comment here misses that Yngwie sometimes dubbs because he misses one note or another. Everybody does so. But not in the Budokan videos; in fact, there's somewhere here in Youtube a non edited version of theBudokan show, where you listen to it as it was played, and even Mike fails in one of the last high notes, and Yngwie plays horribly his last acoustic solo. Look for it and judge by yourself if it's possible or not: that guy's for real.

I have to say that, although Batio can shred beyond belief......and I do mean beyond belief (credit where credit is due, he's amazing), he just doesn't make me want to listen to any of his tracks. Malmsteen atleast has some great songs and has worked up an incredibly distinctive style. I've bought a number of Malmsteen's album and none of Nitro's or Batio's though I do have a few of his instructional vids. I'll learn from both but I just can't spend the time to listen to Batio for enjoyment.
