Thanks much! :)
My permit should be coming in the mail sometime next week if the Lord is willing. Right now I'm pretty darn broke so I'm thinking just short term getting one of those cheapo nylon holsters. Anyone tried those before? Are they just horrible or not that bad?
@trohpyofhisgrace i know im not hickok but i can maybe help you, try looking at a hoster called sidearmor, i use this iwb for a glock 26 gen4 and it feels great. He shows one towards the end of this video.
How do you like the shoulder holsters for CCW? they seem like they would be nice for carying a larger gun in the winter when you are going to be wearing a jacket
I just thought I'd like to share... That holster at 6:15 used to be one of my dad's favorites.. The reason I say that is because I went through his stuff when he died and saw damn near 15 of 'em. Haha! And I have NO clue why. ;-)
This comment doesn't really mean much, but I just wanted to share a sentimental memory of mine.
Hey @hickock45 would you please tell me if a knife that was very cheap is good my uncle says it has a very good mechanism but the metal is very bad and cheap bould it be a good knife
I have a Supertuck and have been wearing it for about 2 months now. Hickok and the folks down at Crossbreed ain't lyin'........the Supertuck is the most comfortable IWB holster I have ever used. I only own one Supertuck (for my G-37) but when I carry my G-37 I never even take the Glock or the holster out when I get home, I just wear it all day, it's that comfortable, even with a larger pistol.
Love your channel Hickok! Keep the videos comin' man!
@SloJoe18 Yea IWB is Not for Everyone. Some people Dont like having their Belts Tighter than Usual. But I dont really see a Difference. I Love IWB. Especially in My EDC System. Uncle Mikes Are one Of The Best To me. I started out with a Inside The Pant Uncle Mikes From Academy. Have Had it and Loved it Since. My Gun Loves that Holdster.
I've got a Russian M1895 revolver with original holster. I'm worried about the inside of the holster scratching up the gun. Am I worried over nothing or should I not use a holster so old?
I know what you mean by holster thickness. I have a Penner IWB in leather for my CZ 75B and it only takes an extra 1/4" to feel bulky. Still fairly comfortable.
@hickok45 i have 2 holsters from WWII my grandfather has given me for a 1911 they are both the same as the one you have shown except a little better condition, do you have any idea how much one from WWII is worth? im looking to buy 2 more soi have one for each of my 1911's
not being a handgun shooter, how comfortable are those inside-the-waistband holsters to wear? I imagine that, especially during the summer, it'd get pretty sweaty in there? plus, even the thinnest guns, worn on the hip would press a bit?
@OldDood huh, thanks for the reply, it's just that I hate having my wallet in my pocket when it's really hot, as like I say it's not the greatest,I guess having annother layer btw the holser and yourself would make a big difference, perhaps some kind of vented/mesh design would be good for summer useage? At the end of the day you probaly have to tailor (pardon the pun) your dress to concealed carry and might not be able to wear the most comfortable thing, but something that conceals better
I use either the Blackhawk sportster holster or the Blackhawk check six holster. Both great holsters that i recommend to anyone looking for a good conceiled carry holster!
Glock 19 Holsters that Do NOT have a retaining strap, also tend to fit Glock 36s very well too. =)
Hickok you've confirmed sumthing I'd heard new gun owners being told but I didn't believe. I heard new gun owners told to get a big chest to hold holsters in as they would go thru a large number before they found the holster that was perfect for them. Got a few floating around myself but guess I was just lucky in finding my fav Don Humes. =)
I carry a supertuck with a taurus pt 140 pro and now a springfield .45 and I cant get comfortable wearing it. Im a skinny guy and My pants are a little baggy till I put the holster and belt. If I dont wear my belt super tight it makes my pants sag. But when its really tight its uncomfortable. Last summer my belt rubbed a nice blister on my stomach. Anyone recommend me a new holster or a better way to start carrying?
Leather is better, pettier, and not cheap looking, I couldn't dream of a Kydex,or nylon.
when I was a cop, I had a beautiful basket weave fast draw, for a model 19 S&W.
I tried shoulder holsters, hate them. Getting real on conceal a IWB is great,How ever in My real life experience its a pocket holster. it doesn't frighten the public, and the bad guy never dreams you have a gun.In my business I had to be armed, and not frighten my customers. A pocket 38 snubby or a GL 26 fills the bill perfectly.
I have never found another holster that is more comfortable then Crossbreeds. For ccw its the only holster I will ever buy. Actually I just ordered my 7th crossbreed for my Karh pm9
what no serpa? just kidding love the leather ones just the smell makes you wanna buy em thanks for the video lots of videos of Safariland, serpas, 5.11 don't get me wrong great holsters but for a country boy like me I like the leather ones
You have enough leather on the table to make a cow, lol. thanks for the informitive video. I like learning about different holsters, since I only use a few kinds myself.
Man Hickok, you cracked me up with the Limalife comment at 16:55! Thanks for all the informative videos, they've been a huge reason why I've gotten into shooting!
@strfy - I use a Galco CON-250B concealable leather belt holster. It is made for Sigs but will hold a CZ P-01 nicely. It also holds my CZ 2075 RAMI sub-compact and my Bersa Thunder .45 UC Pro.
If you are new to shooting, you will soon learn that there is no such things as "The One True Holster".You'll find some that don't fit all circumstances & some that don't work for you at all.Just ask any long time gun owner if they have a drawer full of holsters that they don't use or have in rotation. The hard thing is convincing your Significant Other that you really "need" all the accessories after getting your new gun.
Hey hickok if you can onlypick on holster for your mid/ small glocks to use everyday for conceal carry, what would it be?most comfort and function. thanks
This was great. It exposed me to several kinds of holsters that I was curious about. I carry my Glock 27 in a Supertuck as well and adore it. I am now in the market for a holster for my S&W 686 4".
i got 3 don hume holsters im a big fan of his stuff also i have a crossbreed owb snapslide for my 4in 1911 its really nice i think my next will be something to fit my smith model 10 4in barrel any suggestions?
Great review of the types of holsters. I would have like to see the cowboy action cross draw chest holster, because I'm looking for a good cross draw for a super black hawk.
For concealed carry, the best holsters you can get are Kydex holsters made by Dale Fricke - look at ones like the Joshua, The Arch-Angel, or to save some money, the Zach. Fricke makes excellent holsters - you can even contact him and have him make you one for your specific gun. They are IWB. As for clothing, just buy everything one size larger than'normal' or a little bit tight. They are optimum for glocks but he makes a huge variety of them. Happy shooting, stay safe.
Thanks for the holster video :) Yeah you are right, it is more enjoyable watching "limalife" demonstrate holsters LOL. seriously though I really do enjoy ALL of your videos :)
Looking at getting a Kholster for my PF-9, similar to the crossbreed and the that comptac one you showed. Anyone else here use a Kholster? Just as comfy? Durable?
Great video. Have you done a video showing us all of your guns? Not shooting them but just setting them up and putting the bullet next to it so we could see. I would really enjoy a video like that.
As a former recovery agent for bail bondsman I loved the blackhawk serpa holster. I carried open as a show of force and as it locked in I never had a problem with anyone grabbing it not for lack of trying ,one time. Great vid though.
Ever consider adding a Simply Rugged Holster to the line up? I just picked one up for my M&P9. It is a really heavy duty leather holster that hugs the body tight. The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy it for my Glock 19 :)
One of my newest, favorite holster is the hidden alley from High Noon Holster. It makes a full size weapon disappear. It is an inside the waist band type that allows you to tuck in your shirt for a nice clean complete CCW.
Thanks for the holster video! I am wondering about IWB holsters. Do you have to buy your pants larger by a few inches at the waist to carry concealed, and if so, by how much, please? I've always worn my jeans on the tight side, so if that's the case I'll have to get more pants. Getting to middle age hasn't helped my waistline, either, and everything is getting tighter. I'm just trying to get a ballpark on my next clothing purchase.
Thanks for all your videos. I always look forward to your next.
@hickok45 a great holster to use for concealed carry, especially if safety is a main concern, is the Blackhawk Serpa Holster, it has a trigger guard lock on it that locks the gun in place until you push the button on the side to release it. very safe and is made for a wide variety of pistols like glocks, berettas, sigs, xd's, hk's, 1911's and some j frame revolvers. i got mine online from cheaper than dirt for around 40 bucks, you should check them out and tell us what you think, Thanks
@webfox1 If carrying in waistband it would depend on how thick the holster, and gun are. The OWB slide holster is a good alternative if you are not wanting to buy pants that are larger. Usualy the unspoken roule of thumb is one waist size bigger for pants. For the belt spend a little more for a real good concelead carry blet, that is thick, and wide. Heips a whole lot for keeping the gun in closer to your body, and will outlast you.
like the video! very informative and its good to see some holsters and opinions on them because for new carry people the search for the right holster can be confusing
Excellent video. I love my crossbreed for my glocks and my royal guard for my Kimber pro. I noticed that you do not have any Kramer holsters, any reason why? I have one for my glock 20 (outside the waistband of course with that thick monster of a gun).. very nice horsehide holster but expensive as heck.
I'd follow this video up with another important part of carrying: the BELT. A cheap walmart belt doesn't cut it when it comes to carrying anything bigger than an LCP
I've been using uncle mikes IWB holsters for 6 years, ahahaha.
I've tried about everything out there, and there's just nothing else that makes a full size gun disappear so well. The only downside is that it can shift around unless you really tighten up the belt. It'll also never wear your finish either. Makes a glock 20 carry as comfortably as a glock 26.
@skyhop, I think if you ever carry in a nicer holster, you'd never go back. I thought the Alessi Talon holsters and such were the best one could get, and they are good, until I tried the Crossbreed style holsters. The a totally different world.
@hickok45 was carrying a full size 1911 concealed in a crossbreed holster for awhile before i got my glock and even a full size could be caried prettty comfortably in the crossbreed. they are by far my favorite that i have used and tried.
I want to see all the holsters on at once for comparison. =) j/k. What a cool mix! I have yet to start carrying but will definitely refer back to this video as I figure out what does not work. Thanks for sharing!
@UrDoinItWrong, Leather seems to wear more evenly, I guess I could say. I don't like the streaks you sometimes get on a gun from Kydex, depending on the holster.
Don't forget Hickock the Comp-Tec Minotaur has interchangable shells. You can buy seperate shells for 40 bux for many different varities of guns. better than buying a whole new holster if you got one that you like. I myself have the Comp-Tec for my MP40c and i'm going to order a body for the Full Size 1911 just to have and one for my Future glock!!
Hello, I'm 16 and live in the UK. I have little, or no firearms knowledge, but you really inspire me to one day move to the States and become a firearms enthusiast like yourself. Your videos are fun to watch and I must admit are very educational to people who have a great deal of firearms knowledge, or even someone like me who knows next to nothing. Keep up with the good videos, and keep in mind that you are inspiring young people like myself. Thanks Hickok!
@callum118 thats no reason to move to the states, thats not to say that we wouldnt welcome you because we would. But you could also pursue trying to get the anti-gun laws in the UK repealed and make your country better instead of just abandoning it. But then again I dont know how the laws in UK work so it might be a lost cause, in that case hop the pond and come on over.
@preluderacer88 Hello. Yeah the gun laws over here are VERY strict, And I know in the States they're so lenient. And also It's my dream to move over there, but also immigration is pretty strict too.
great vid Hickok.... I have a question..I live in North West Florida so... What would be your opinion on the best every day ccw holster for an full size 1911?......Thanks
@drabzong , Generally, anybody who wants to make sure he doesn't shoot himself in the leg (or worse) or lose his gun when something is called for other than just walking casually. :-)
@hickok45 Yeah, i agree with having a holster but i hate outside the waistband holsters. Especially when running they are a real drag. Im not really into holsters but i'd prefer inside the waistband holsters. Thanks for the reply
I just ordered a Comp-tac for my Kimber Ultra Carry earlier tonight...already have one for my 26 and love it. Could have bought kydex shell for one I have, but it seems to be too much trouble to swap out day to day. Great vid!
haha i just realized that if some one came you your house to try to confiscate all your guns they would just give up when they saw the holster collection. its more work than it's worth :)
Hickok should be able to carry in his profession. It really bothers me that license holders aren't permitted to carry their weapon in schools. In TX, the bill to carry on college campuses has been approved by 4 ayes and 2 nays to progress to the Senate floor for a full vote. I'm curious to see if it'll pass into law. It's been a long journey. What about High Schools though? I can't stand gun free zones.
@Solareffects I love it. Definitely the most comfortable concealment holster I've ever used. They offer free shipping on all their holsters. Check out their website and look at the warranty they offer. Can't beat it.
I just really want to thank you for doing all of the videos that you do. You are really a helpful man and I know that I am not the only one that appreciates this. @danebrewer10
They are a lot more comfortable then you would think. It would depend on the holster though.
I wear extra long T-Shirts underneath my regular shirts and tuck the T-Shirt in as deep as it will go.
This makes a good pad/shield between your skin and the holster. I do not like feeling the holster against my skin at all.
I also wear mine in the front(cross draw). Works perfectly for me and my revolver is heavy. I rarely 'feel it'.

I really like my Leather Holsters too. Mine are Cowhide though and not Horsehide.
I found a well made Holster from Texas Gun Leather for my SP101.
It is the Cover Up Plus and a fantastic Cross Draw for that heavy little revolver.
Makes it real easy to drive (and more importantly to buckle up).
Also No one can tell I am carrying at all.
The best part is the service I received from that little company.
(I hope it was 'OK' to speak of this company here...If not then I apologize)

This was great. It exposed me to several kinds of holsters that I was curious about. I carry my Glock 27 in a Supertuck as well and adore it. I am now in the market for a holster for my S&W 686 4".

Great review of the types of holsters. I would have like to see the cowboy action cross draw chest holster, because I'm looking for a good cross draw for a super black hawk.

Oh my god... I thought I had a lot of holsters
donniecr 11 months ago
For concealed carry, the best holsters you can get are Kydex holsters made by Dale Fricke - look at ones like the Joshua, The Arch-Angel, or to save some money, the Zach. Fricke makes excellent holsters - you can even contact him and have him make you one for your specific gun. They are IWB. As for clothing, just buy everything one size larger than'normal' or a little bit tight. They are optimum for glocks but he makes a huge variety of them. Happy shooting, stay safe.

Awesome video. Thanks for doing this. This is invaluable! You do such an amazing job! Thanks again!

Durable?

Thank you sir. With your knowledge and experience there is nothing out there that can cover so much in one video.

Great video. Have you done a video showing us all of your guns? Not shooting them but just setting them up and putting the bullet next to it so we could see. I would really enjoy a video like that.

Great video! Nice holster selection, I own a few of them and you now have me curious about a few new ones. I love the limalife reference!

As a former recovery agent for bail bondsman I loved the blackhawk serpa holster. I carried open as a show of force and as it locked in I never had a problem with anyone grabbing it not for lack of trying ,one time. Great vid though.

I couldn't tell from the video. Who makes Hickok's Glock 27 holster?

Hickok made a vid and didn't even fire a single shot......now i've seen everyhting

Ever consider adding a Simply Rugged Holster to the line up? I just picked one up for my M&P9. It is a really heavy duty leather holster that hugs the body tight. The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy it for my Glock 19 :)

I just received my cross breed holster today 6 weeks after i ordered one so if anyone plans on buying one it takes awhile.

Crossbreed holsters are the best. It's as close as I've ever found to being like not carrying a gun...
capazzo22 11 months ago
One of my newest, favorite holster is the hidden alley from High Noon Holster. It makes a full size weapon disappear. It is an inside the waist band type that allows you to tuck in your shirt for a nice clean complete CCW.
fcvjr 11 months ago
i must have a class II or even a class III holster. i have been in more fist fights then gun fights.
fisherdigital 11 months ago
Thanks for the holster video! I am wondering about IWB holsters. Do you have to buy your pants larger by a few inches at the waist to carry concealed, and if so, by how much, please? I've always worn my jeans on the tight side, so if that's the case I'll have to get more pants. Getting to middle age hasn't helped my waistline, either, and everything is getting tighter. I'm just trying to get a ballpark on my next clothing purchase.
Thanks for all your videos. I always look forward to your next.
webfox1 11 months ago 5
@webfox1 , If they are tight already, I'd buy them a size bigger, for sure.
hickok45 11 months ago 3
@hickok45 I can hear the conversation now... "Does this holster make my butt look big?"
webfox1 11 months ago
@hickok45 a great holster to use for concealed carry, especially if safety is a main concern, is the Blackhawk Serpa Holster, it has a trigger guard lock on it that locks the gun in place until you push the button on the side to release it. very safe and is made for a wide variety of pistols like glocks, berettas, sigs, xd's, hk's, 1911's and some j frame revolvers. i got mine online from cheaper than dirt for around 40 bucks, you should check them out and tell us what you think, Thanks
northtexasfan419 10 months ago 6
@webfox1 If carrying in waistband it would depend on how thick the holster, and gun are. The OWB slide holster is a good alternative if you are not wanting to buy pants that are larger. Usualy the unspoken roule of thumb is one waist size bigger for pants. For the belt spend a little more for a real good concelead carry blet, that is thick, and wide. Heips a whole lot for keeping the gun in closer to your body, and will outlast you.

like the video! very informative and its good to see some holsters and opinions on them because for new carry people the search for the right holster can be confusing

you could open a used holster business lol
bigdollars99 11 months ago
Excellent video. I love my crossbreed for my glocks and my royal guard for my Kimber pro. I noticed that you do not have any Kramer holsters, any reason why? I have one for my glock 20 (outside the waistband of course with that thick monster of a gun).. very nice horsehide holster but expensive as heck.
PowerForGood 11 months ago
the limalife comment was hilarious :-)
I'd follow this video up with another important part of carrying: the BELT. A cheap walmart belt doesn't cut it when it comes to carrying anything bigger than an LCP

kniedelm 11 months ago
I've been using uncle mikes IWB holsters for 6 years, ahahaha.
I've tried about everything out there, and there's just nothing else that makes a full size gun disappear so well. The only downside is that it can shift around unless you really tighten up the belt. It'll also never wear your finish either. Makes a glock 20 carry as comfortably as a glock 26.
skyhop 11 months ago
@skyhop, I think if you ever carry in a nicer holster, you'd never go back. I thought the Alessi Talon holsters and such were the best one could get, and they are good, until I tried the Crossbreed style holsters. The a totally different world.
hickok45 11 months ago 2
@hickok45 was carrying a full size 1911 concealed in a crossbreed holster for awhile before i got my glock and even a full size could be caried prettty comfortably in the crossbreed. they are by far my favorite that i have used and tried.
jab0505 10 months ago
@skyhop You should try Crossbreed IWB Holsters, i carry a full size Kimber 1911 and it works great. check them out, i love mine.

I'm sure holster wear isn't a huge concern for you...but in your experience do you find that leather wears more on the finish than nylon or kydex?
UrDoinItWrong 11 months ago
@UrDoinItWrong, Leather seems to wear more evenly, I guess I could say. I don't like the streaks you sometimes get on a gun from Kydex, depending on the holster.
hickok45 11 months ago
@hickok45 Would that acid that wear the gun finish from the holster be disappear if we do something like, dry it up for some hours by a hair dryer?

Any Drop-leg Pistol Holsters?
EFG44 11 months ago

Thanks Hickok!
callum118 11 months ago 47
@callum118 thats no reason to move to the states, thats not to say that we wouldnt welcome you because we would. But you could also pursue trying to get the anti-gun laws in the UK repealed and make your country better instead of just abandoning it. But then again I dont know how the laws in UK work so it might be a lost cause, in that case hop the pond and come on over.
preluderacer88 10 months ago
@preluderacer88 Hello. Yeah the gun laws over here are VERY strict, And I know in the States they're so lenient. And also It's my dream to move over there, but also immigration is pretty strict too.

Who needs a holster when you've got a waist and a tight belt?
drabzong 11 months ago
@drabzong , Generally, anybody who wants to make sure he doesn't shoot himself in the leg (or worse) or lose his gun when something is called for other than just walking casually. :-)
hickok45 11 months ago 14
@hickok45 Yeah, i agree with having a holster but i hate outside the waistband holsters. Especially when running they are a real drag. Im not really into holsters but i'd prefer inside the waistband holsters. Thanks for the reply
