I saw the play and the hoisting of Rudy after the game on live TV back in 1975. It was a classic college football moment. For all of you anti ND people, that's fine. That's your right. But the ones posting here are showing a level of intellect tantamount to a rock. Tantamount...look it up. Sorry, it has more than one syllable. I'm betting you genius scribers barely passed the 10th grade. And just for the record....I was a student a Grad student at USC when this happened. Have a nice day.
¡Qué ejemplo de lucha! el espiritu humano en su manifestación más alta, hombres como Rudy (ignorados casi siempre) en todas las épocas con sus conquistas nos comprometen a seguir luchando.
Notre Dame is my favorite college football team and rudy will go down as one of my favorite players in the fighting irish's history (even though he only got one sack out of his entire career in Notre Dame)
I read that Coach Devine was exactly against Rudy playing and that it was created for dramatic effect in t he movie. In Devine's autobiography (GREAT BOOK by the way) he states this and how he was hurt when he saw how he was portrayed in the movie. I saw an interview with Rudy a few years back and he confirmed that Dan Devine did not want to stop him from playing and was actually quite in favor of it.
oh and actually the scene in the movie where the team tells the coach to let Rudy dress in their place is based on true events.....it just wasn't the whole team that did it...it was just a couple of the players
The story of Rudy isn't just about him playing...it was about how he overcame the odds of not being the biggest, smartest, or most athletic and succeeding in his goal of getting into Notre Dame and being apart of the football team....that is no joke
hahahahah rudy is a damn joke, glad he got to play the last two plays but it was a damn sham he was even rememberd when alot of guys just like him or better than him had the same experience, and no one rememberd them, and thats sayin alot from me being from muncie indiana.that movie should have been about gary chris from u.t. he held passing records there for over 30 years, and played for the 49er,and was also my high school football coach at coafeild tenn
@scars73 not takeing anything from the man rudy,he had hart, but im not jelous of two plays hahahaha who would be,i played all the way up till i got out of school, but hey i bet he got laid that night,

my dad played for ND a few years after rudy and apparently, after the whole sack shit, he was really cocky and walked around like he was the fucking man and was an asshole
Just like in Invincible, the director simplified the play. Rudy did cause the sack. Rudy might have gotten a hand on him, but most likely Jeff Weston, Jay Achterhoff, Willie Fry, or John Galanis made the tackle.
Note: Rudy at 5.6 165 makes him large for his height in 1975. On most teams outside the elite, he would have had regular playing time.
Where was the whole stadium chanting "Rudy, Rudy! Rudy!", hmm I didn't hear that. And as someone else pointed out, the jersey scene never happened. But then again it wouldn't have been as dramatic a movie without the fake chants and the jersey scene.
You get an idea of how much Hollywood embellishes things. In the movie, ND throws a trick half back option pass for a TD (so Rudy can get in on defense). Here they score on a short pitch and run. Also, in the movie Rudy sacks the QB by himself...here he shares the sack with a DL. I've also heard that the scene where his teammates turn in their jerseys to coach Devine in protest, never happened.
Yeah, The idea of dressing Rudy up for the final home game was in fact Devine's idea. The actual Dan Devine wrote a letter of protest to the producers of the film on how the jerseys scene never happened.
Yeah, Hollywood has a habit of re-writing history for "football movies". Both "Friday Night Lights" and "Remember the Titans" had some major story-line changes for the big screen.
Although......Dan Devine in the movie says the line that always gives me goosebumbs, 'Nobody........and i mean nobody.....comes into our house and pushes us around.'
Im a michigan fan, and Rudy is one of my favorite movies, great storyline, best part of it all is its based off a true story!! rudys nephew? plays college baseball i cant remember exactly what team but i believe it is arizona state!
oh my god all he did was cut back threw the georgia tech defense wats so important now if notre dame was losing and came back because of him that would be awesome
if you watch the movie then you would understand what is so special about this. normally no this wouldnt be a big deal, rudy has a learning disability which i dont think is stated in the movie, but the rest is. just watch it. its an inspiring movie.
Sounds like you're just a little jealous that he proved everyone wrong about himself. He gave at least 10 times the heart and effort of everyone else. And he had been playing ever since he was a kid. Other than plalying for years and working his butt off, I guess he seems to be lacking experience. (Sarcasm).

alot of people dont know that Notre Dame was fined for running the score up and also that the movie was wrong, its tradition to carry a guy off the field after every home game.
The quarterback defiantly would have broken Rudy's tackle if it weren't for that other guy. And a lot of that movie is bull shit too there was no janitor or any of that but it's still unbelievable and he's my hero.
I don't care if it was only a assisted tackle ,a half tackle or whatever. Rudy's only dream was to run out of that tunnel and play just ONE play for ND in order to be credited as part of the team and HE DID IT ! He had so many disadvantages but his heart, dedication and hard work won the respect of alot of people and made his dream came true . That's what is true , and the whole point of of the movie and it's good enough for me .
The Rudy movie was great, but as is common with movies "based on true stories" it is juked up with bullshit. Ex; in the movie, at the end, nearly the whole team is focused on Rudy with him being hauled off a hero. In real life, it was just a couple of players half-assed holding him up briefly with no one else paying any attention. The players never threatened to quit either. Oh well, Hollywood.
this movie is the best college sports movie ever made. The music gets you so fired up... I played this video obnoxiously loud and during the movie i cheered for rudy! go rent it if u havent seen it!
I love the story and the inspiration behind it, but maybe somebody can help me out here. The way I'm looking at it, that QB didn't go down by himself. Did Rudy come in from the right or left?
ya there where two guys that brought him down but Rudy hurried the Qb right into the arms of another guy. In fact his first play he hurried the QB also. Not bad for two plays.
Just finished watching Rudy for the ????? time on AMC. It always brings a tear to my eye as I share this film of inspiration and hope with my boys. it proves with a little and sometimes a lot of hard work, good things happen.
Me too! This is only the second time I have ever watched the entire movie. It was so good. I wanted to jump into Rudy's arms and celebrate his victories and heartbreaks with him.
who cares about all the tiny details in the game at the end. The point of the freakin movie was to show people that Rudy worked his ass off to achieve a lifelong dream. He had more drive and heart to be a Notre Dame football player than anyone could possibly fathom and all you people care about is passing a long bomb pass instead of a goal-to-run in the movie. Sean Astin wasn't the real Rudy either and no one is complaining about that...
Th movie was far more entertaining than the real thing. I should never have watched this clip. Now that I know what really happened the movie doesnt seem as good anymore. :-(
I am. The clip is missing all of the fancy camera angles and slo-mo effects of the film, but there's still this runty 5'7" 165 wlb 24 year old kid with dyslexia from a poor working class family of 14 kids who works his ass off for years trying to overcome a learning disability and a lot of people telling him he can't have his dream and he doesn't let it go. He was quoted in the university newspaper as saying it was his dream to be able to play for Notre Dame even if it was only for a second..
rudy isnt a lil guy any more i can tell you all that right now..sorry that was really mean but that is ohk he would still love me if ii said that to his face b/c he is a great uncle..ii think all the other 13 of them take after himm..yea he is kinda old..
Thanks for posting this.....one of the BEST sports movies of all time. My late father was at the game when they filmed the "Rudy Bowl" segment at halftime of the Notre Dame/BC match up in 1992, so I have a sentimental attachment to the film...he was the one somewhere in the stands chanting "Rudy Rudy"...perhaps you heard him(lol)? Even that aside, it was still a great story and brings new meaning to the phrase "rooting for the little guy". Thanks again!
Rudy is one of the best sports movie ever. One of my favorites of all time too. I have always wanted to see the actual footage of him getting in the game against Tech.

lol hollywood should have made an ending where rudy recovers a fumble from his sack and returns it for a touchdown. it was already a good movie but that wudve been cool.
"ya cant man .... that would be falsifying what happened in the football game" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, they already did falsify it a bit. The movie showed the final ND touchdown as a long bomb pass when it was really a short goal-to-go run. They also showed Rudy's sack as a solo unassisted sack when the D-lineman actually helped bring down the QB. However, when you look at the sack on the clip above, you'd see that Rudy pretty much had the guy down on his own.
No, that would have been stupid. That sack was huge for him and it's more than enough. A fumble returned for TD would only spoil the movie because it is too much unrealistic. It's the best this way.
Yeah i agree. First time i saw that sack i screamed for like a solid minute, thats the best possible thing he could have accomplished in his few plays.
thank you nexxogen thats exactly my point. if rudy ONLY had the sack, it should only be KEPT as the sack and nothing more. the preservation to the integrity of the actual game that occured must remain intact; or else it'll look like another cliche disney movie.
I want to see Rudy hop over the offensive line and put both feet into the QB's face, in which the ball jerks loose and flies towards the opposite endzone, and rudy, foot still lodgd in oponents helmut, limps over and makes the TD.
yes usc is know for things like the bush push and oj simpson the murder and people paying there way to buy the hesimen and choking in national championships game which nd as never done
The Rudy movie was great, but as is common with movies "based on true stories" it is juked up with bullshit. Great moment in the history of man. It shows the strenth of will. The power of determination is for most people to have antime they choose, Rudy was one who utilized it.

Who's the wild man now!?
elisabeast 3 years ago
who cares about all the tiny details in the game at the end.

djomar926 3 years ago

Wow, he really did record a sack. Way to go, Rudy!
dgagnon313 3 years ago
he was recorded in the ND books with one play under his name, and recorded with a sack. I believe for 7 yards.
Poundcakebowler 2 years ago
Wow i thought Rudy was okay but if they remember him for only one sack then the wrighter must of takin a bullet to the head!

I have always wanted to see the actual footage of him getting in the game against Tech.

lol hollywood should have made an ending where rudy recovers a fumble from his sack and returns it for a touchdown. it was already a good movie but that wudve been cool.
intellectuallygifted 3 years ago
ya cant man .... that would be falsifying what happened in the football game.

AlabamaAxeman 3 years ago 2
No, that would have been stupid. That sack was huge for him and it's more than enough. A fumble returned for TD would only spoil the movie because it is too much unrealistic. It's the best this way.
nexxogen 3 years ago 6
Yeah i agree. First time i saw that sack i screamed for like a solid minute, thats the best possible thing he could have accomplished in his few plays.
Armistace 3 years ago
thank you nexxogen thats exactly my point. if rudy ONLY had the sack, it should only be KEPT as the sack and nothing more. the preservation to the integrity of the actual game that occured must remain intact; or else it'll look like another cliche disney movie.
eric829 3 years ago
I want to see Rudy hop over the offensive line and put both feet into the QB's face, in which the ball jerks loose and flies towards the opposite endzone, and rudy, foot still lodgd in oponents helmut, limps over and makes the TD.
THAT, is what SHOULD of happened.

i lovve rudy

The Rudy movie was great, but as is common with movies "based on true stories" it is juked up with bullshit. Ex; in the movie, at the end, nearly the whole team is focused on Rudy with him being hauled off a hero. In real life, it was just a couple of players half-assed holding him up briefly with no one else paying any attention. The players never threatened to quit either. Oh well, Hollywood.

Great moment in the history of man. It shows the strenth of will. The power of determination is for most people to have antime they choose, Rudy was one who utilized it.
