  • I envision this song to be the song someone would play as they gather themself up and prepare to commit suice...like that last few minutes of thought. and then the final decision. and then you can totally see the lover discovering the body and holding it and crying and screaming whyyyy???!!!

morbid yes but true none the less

  • OMGoodness! This is beautiful and TOUCHING!

  • One fine day!

  • I want to sing this before i die. - _ -

  • :D This is so beautiful, I wish the end wasn't so harsh lol

  • clean flawless ...The best!!............Thanks

  • great Tebaldi..I love your voice

  • maria callas is much better than renata tebaldi..

  • @nymaeria Disagree!!!

  • These is the best version of un bel di vedremo

  • i concoquered the world is more like it

  • The "old-fashioned acting" is magnificent! The gestures were specially learned by Tebaldi from the director Yoshio Aoyama when Tebaldi sang her first Butterflys at the Met. They are so expressive and touching.. And then, the singing is so rich and beautiful, and NOBODY gives more innocent heart to phrases such as "Chi sara? Chi sara? E come sara giunto?"

  • @Richiesutherland yes and I don't listened other soprano who has a ff B natural so huge , firm and ravishingly beautiful like Tebaldi "l'aspetto !"

  • I am certainly not a convinced Tebaldi fan - I find her often shrill in sound, as well as flat in pitch in the high register, and her generic "pathos" often gets on my nerves.

But I have to admit that here (apart from the acting that is too old-fashioned to relate to in any way) the purity and power of her voice are remarkable, as is the evenness over the whole range, and the rich beauty of the sound. And finally I heard a B flat of hers that is (almost) in tune. Thank you for posting!

  • @MrTomsport I don't like her , so why are you throwing all your shit here? Go to your favorites to write and don't write trash and lies here, idiotic fag !

  • @MrTomsport after listening this one get to say no one can sing better as everything she sang ! Go to listen the disasters of Renata Scotto and Maria Callas if you like to eat shit. You don't know anything about opera and you even don't know a note is a B natural instead of a Bflat, ignorant rat !

  • She was perfect through out the entire aria. The last seconds were spot on perfection!

  • marias emotions tebaldis perfection and monacos drama

  • I like this version but in 1962 a movie was made named My Geisha about making a movie of Madame Butterfly ..the voice of Michiku Sunahara a japanese opera star was used.. I remember how good she sung Un bel di vedremo...there is a soundtrack LP of the movie but no CD ever made

  • Each of these great voices is unique, just like a precious gem. You might prefer one over another, but I think they are equally beautiful!

  • Un Bel di vedremo <3

  • QUE ASCO DE ACTRIZ.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @simisimi9 fottuto frocio

  • @foratti write in an international language....if you have anything interesting to post !!!!!

  • @80Mrmirko: well done, good reply to those who think that fleming and moffo can even remotely been compared to a Tebaldi,

  • @Rory1956 YES, TEBALDI WAS UNIQUE.......BUT MARIA CALLAS WAS EVEN BETTER !!!

  • @hazelssister "fleming and moffo better then tebaldi": ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

  • Callas and Butterfly were like chalk and cheese. Incomparable interpreter of Bellini and Donizetti, Puccini's roles were just too 'small' and vocally unsuited to her. Tebaldi was born to sing later Verdi, Puccini and other verismo operas: in these she had no rivals. End of.

  • TEBALDI IS NOT CONVINCING AT ALL..WHY SHE SANG THE SAME OPERAS THAT CALLAS DID..THE COMPARISON IS INEVITABLE...AND CALLAS WINS BY FAR

  • HA,HA...SHE LOOKS SO UNEXPRESSIVE THAT ACHES.........VERY, VERY, VERY BAD ACTING, SHE DOES NOT CONVINCE ANYONE SHE IS A GIRL IN LOVE WAITING FOR HER LOVE !!!

Idiotic faggot

  • @neneorganico FAGGOT ??...JA,JA...APUESTO QUE NI SIQUIERA TE DA EL CI PARA SABER QUE SIGNIFICA Y LO COPIASTE DE OTRA PARTE....ADEMAS DAS PENA CON TUS COMENTARIOS ABSURDOS, CUECA??

  • @neneorganico PERDON, ACTRIZ......NO ACTRIS..........PARECE QUE LO BRUTO SE PEGA, MEJOR NO LEO MAS TUS COMENTARIOS TIPICOS DE GENTE SUBDESARROLLADA !!!

  • Comment removed

Simplemente sobervio.

  • @gelmaren NOP...SORRY...LISTEN TO CALLAS

  • Incomparable Tebaldi as Butterfly - We grew up in England with her recording of this opera, and to this day it shakes me to the core.

  • I knew her forty-five (45) years ago and she was a splendid women.

  • I want to hear this the last few seconds before I die.

  • @DoOdLeBaKa So do I ... lonely in the room with that on 45 rpm vinyl

  • This song fills the empty space I have in my heart......

  • why is it in japanese style

  • @bentotheclarke because this opera was set in Nagasaki, Japan during the turn of the century, based off a true story about how an American sailor left his Japanese geisha wife. This happened alot apparently.

  • SHE IS THE BEST!!! No one like her in Madame Butterfly!

  • To the eyes of Japanese, she lookis like a man.... But her singing is really great.

  • @kiyokito0718 TO THE EYES OF A WESTNER JAPENESE GUYS LOOK LIKE WOMEN

  • Thank you GermanOperaSinger for posting this great performance, exceptionally good video of the legendary Tebaldi...a class by herself artistically and and a Beautiful Creation

  • ....when I first heard her in the early sixties, it seemed like she would always be there, her voice could not be halted...but it was not to be....lucky there are recordings.....

  • Magnifient voice! Listen to the purity of her sound as she ends the aria.

  • Beautiful voice!!!! JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

  • Superba!

  • renee fleming and anna moffo are better than tebaldi/

  • @hazelssister the point is not about who is better. You may prefer a different artist,, but this is art... I think we should just appreciate its beauty for itself and leave the competition for sports. Comparing two artists with different techniques, voices, cultural backgrounds and history has as much sense as to say that apples are better than oranges... to each one his/her own. Let's just appreciate beauty.

  • @hazelssister and you listen only Fleming and Moffo my dear.

Miss ebaldi is for different people.

  • No one has been or will be better than Renata Tebaldi! Thank you for all the emotions you gave us, Angel's voice!

  • @83DeaththeKid Absolutely, Just MAGIC,

  • Not going to lie, Barney Gumble's indy film brought me here. It's sad how much of my cultural awareness comes from the Simpsons.

  • My favorite version of Puccini's Opera. I have the original recording, and treasure it. Renata Tebaldi, you are a brilliant star in heaven. Many thanks to GermanOperaSinger for bringing this classic forward.

  • For many years Leotyne Prices' rendition of this aria was the best to me. Now I have seen Tebaldi, and I must say, she is even better than Price on this aria.

Price's voice is dark and smoky at lower notes, and very fluid and buttery at the higher notes. By comparison, Tabaldi is bright at all notes. Since Un Bel Di has a big part at lower notes, it seems to suit Tebaldi better.

And not to mention Tebaldi's beautiful act. (I didn't see Price's real act.)

This is a piece of great treasure.

  • Brava! I have never heard her before. My Loss. Probably the best I have ever heard. She never rushed any part this aria, which is very unusual.

    Absolutely Beautiful. Thank you GOS.

  • The most glorious Puccini voice of all time, of course. It's so lovely to see this, which must have followed her careful work with Yoshio Aoyama on the Met production. The gestures are so lovely and sensitive. And then there's the most beautiful smile in the world. And then there's that voice.

  • LOVE the hand gestures! You can follow along with what she is singing perfectly! I also LOVE the hair pin!! Beautiful!

  • magnifica, superba,bravaaaaa!

  • Thumb Up If You Find Thatsn The Commercial Of Movistar

  • Amazing!! Truly beautiful!!

  • wonderful!!!

  • Bravo...Bravo..!!

  • ah,how beautiful...

  • Brava. bravissima. Grande!!

  • Brava. bravissima

  • Some critics said that she was too old to play Butterfly. But with a voice that beautiful, who cares!?

  • thanks god! and renata!

  • bravissima!!!!

  • FANTASTIC TEBALDI!!!

  • Sublime ...nevertheless is like comparing champagne to Coca-Cola :)

  • Best soprano ever. As much as I adore Lily Pons Tebaldi is almost other wordly. I wouldn't be surprised if ykaillah is write. I have accidentally hit the wrong button on my old computer with the old YouTube format and felt like a stupid dork.

  • Amazing. This is what makes life a truly grand thing.

  • 13 people must be deaf, completely ignorant or so drunk enough to accidentally hit the thumbs down!!!!

  • @ykaiilah - Exactly!

  • Divina , fantastica, insorpassabile.

  • people, mostly modern opera directors, say " is it relevant to the 21 st century, how can we make it so " to justify their exorbitant saleries!!!! yesterday i was on a carusel that was built in 1881 people were queueing from 12 noon to 9pm solid for a ride , how relevent is that!! the public knows things by instinct that the experts will never understand and that is simply " THE GENUINE ARTICLE, THE REAL THING" IT DOES`NT GET ANY REALLER THAN RENATA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GRANDE !

  • Madama Butterfly is so cute at 2.54.

  • Yes, I agree with friendthediva and MARISOLDEMONACO. This is a superb confection both to the eye and the ear..I met her (very, very "informal" circumstances) when she visited Ft.Lauderdale in 1967 and to me she smiled and was pleasant.(and she was NOT "fat" then........)

  • This is what I call " Done to Perfection" also original, magnifique and unique. Thank U for posting the beautiful video clip. Love it.

  • Bellisima

  • In her later years, as a resident in a retirement home, Renata surprised everyone at the Christmas party when she sang Ave Maria. She added, " I am old...I am fat...but, I am still Renata Tebaldi "

  • @APatronOfTheArts So she copied a Luisa Tetrazzini quote...

  • @yodavidnavarro and you can substantiate this???

  • @APatronOfTheArts It's a very well known quote from Luisa Tetrazzini. You can check it on Wikipedia and there you find the source...

  • @APatronOfTheArts as far as i know Renata was never in a retirement home she was able bodied and with the help of "Tina" would have been independant right to the end.

  • Absolutely perfect!!

What a wonderful artiste, what singing!

  • Beautiful voice and acting.

Why is it that the costumers NEVER get it correct? Why is she still wearing her wedding kimono? This is not Dickens but Puccini.

  • awesome, thx 4 share =D

  • que caspa de video

  • I always love the crescendo part of the song.

  • Madama Butterfly was my grandmother's favorite opera, and Tebaldi her favorite interpreter of the title role. I can easily see why. Thank you!

  • Wonderful singing, interpretation, everything! I saw her in several other operas, but never this one. Thanks.

  • And what is this myth about Callas being "the great actress" and Tebaldi did not even belong in this category? What amazing acting and stylistic expression in this short clip. Thank you, Renata. From one who really actively dislikes Madama Butterfly.

  • Belo!

  • Absolutely outstanding. Thank You

  • Wonderful!!! Superb!!!!

    Grazie Renata

  • Glup!

  • Too beautiful. Far too beautiful.

  • She sings so natural.

  • That is amazing!

  • Tebaldi sings Butterfly better than Callas. Tebaldi uses a more meaningful expression of sadness, gentility and grace. She is Butterfly. I really love it.

  • superba!!! magnifica!!! DIVINA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be

  • Perfection!

  • what a pure sound voice, god this is pure quality.

  • Thank you "GermanOperaSinger," She was magnificent! To be an opera freak, to pursue such an experience live, is what it is all about. Live, which is 10 times even fuller, will only occur few times across scores of attendances, but yes, to experience such heights of opera, even the possibility, is all that is needed. Thank you, again.

  • she's so beautiful!!

  • She really transformed herself and was transported into the story. Her frasing and her expression are perfect. This piece of acting is like a cherry blossom... PERFECT.

Thank you for saving this video for all to see. Cara Renata, ci sarà un altra come te?

  • LOVE her voice but the hands were retarded.

  • Wow wow wow!!

  • beautiful / bellissima

  • Every aspring new singers should watch this and learn.

  • why is this cut off before the end? you killed a magic moment... she is so sublime. wtf happened?

  • Sublime La Tebaldi Grazie !

  • Semplicemente celestiale.

  • TEBALDI + BERGONZI = PERFECTION !!

  • February 1st - 2010

Happy birthday in Heaven my dear Renata.

  • omg...perfect xx

  • Brava!!!!

  • It is so wonderful to hear and see Madam Tebaldi in her vocal prime. Her voice in this video is simply beautiful and expressive. Thanks GOS for this great post.

  • I'm in tears. This must have been after her close work with Aoyama at the Met. What beautiful, graceful work with her arms and hands! When her face turns sad at "e un po' per non morire al primo incontro", it is so moving. And then, that voice.

  • Me too!! This is a master piece!! So beatifull, Renata. Thanks for this unvaluable legacy!!! Bravisssssiiimmmmaaaaaaaa!!!!!

  • Brava, Superba, Magnifica.

  • best voice ever, listen final scene manon lescaut

  • Heavenly! Otherworldly! A real innocent Cio-Cio-San!

  • Impossibile non commuoversi...

  • bravissima renata

  • Meravigliosa!!!
