The "Beast" did better against the Porsche than I expected it would. I love my E55. I looked for a while and it was the best sedan under $15k. Period. Only complaint is no manual transmission and you can't completely disable the Traction Control.

At 0:04 seconds you can clearly see in the video that this E55 AMG isn't an E55 AMG. The E55 AMG of that generation had a grille with more silver-colored slits and a distinctive front bumper with circular fog lights. At the rear of this E class there are no twin circular exhausts. This E55 AMG is either a regular E class or an E430 but it isn't an E55 AMG.

The car definitely has an aftermarket bodykit on it, but... it ran a 13.6 @ 101 mph.... which puts it firmly into E55 territory. No E430 could get into these numbers without serious modifications... the E55 featured in that video is a pre-facelift model... so 1998-1999 model... pre-2000 for sure. The tail lights are a giveaway of that - and I saw the E55 stock exhaust. Could be wrong, but, this one looks authentic to me.

I've shown this video to some friends of mine who are more into German cars, especially MB. They all agree that this is not an E55 AMG. The grille gives it away as does the little badge behind the front wheels where the trim of the car (Classic, Elegance or Avantgarde) is written: the E55 AMG doesn't have this badge. No twin exhausts either.

They think it is a modified E320 or E430. Both the E320 and E430 were never designed for serious acceleration AFAIK in stock form.

@jakemiller5000 I've never driven an M5. By the sounds of it, you've never driven either. The E55 is a very very quick car in a straight line, but is not so great in the twisties. I personally prefer a better all rounder which my 328 sport offers at the moment, plus its a lot cheaper to run and insure. Its just my opinion, if you disagree, good on you!

As for the spec issue, go onto Autotrader or Pistonheads and have a look for yourself. You'll find they all have the little badge on the side

Um, I've driven the W211 E55 AMG at the AMG track days event I was invited to a few years ago. This car is not only fast in a straight line but it also HANDELS NICELY in corners. The BMW M5 just handles betters. That's all.

phil0609 you can't be serious with that comment. The benz is 350hp and much heavier than the 400+hp 911. The 911 was easily a full second and 10mph faster in the 1/4 mile as the video shows. If the e55 was the newer 470hp kompressor it would be a much closer race.
