Vince Giordano’s wonderfully evocative music for the TV series Boardwalk Empire earned a Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack. The Nighthawks can be heard at Sofia’s every Monday and Tuesday in NYC 212 719 5799
Kathy Brier and Vice Giodano's Nighthawks give this Irving Berlin song authenticity and a richness that was truly the 1920's. It sets the stage for all that scandalous behavior! Bravo to Ms. Brier and the Nighthawks.
Kathy Brier is an excellent ragtime vocalist! It is refreshing to hear someone sing with an authentic style from that time, which is quite different from the style of singing today.
Vocal by Kathy Brier. And I agree that iTunes is acting badly expecting you to buy the entire album, although I suspect it is the HBO crowd behind that decision.
Found it out! It's Kathy Brier, and the song is on the soundtrack, though iTunes are a bunch of jerks and are now making me buy the ENTIRE album for this one track.
@golddustwoman83 nice find. I'm anti-Apple and I've never bought a freaking MP3 in my life. I've got enough LP's and CD's that I've already paid my dues to the record industry. When I want something I just find it and download it now... not really in a rush to get the soundtrack although I might just get the entire Season 1 just to watch it all over again. Thanks for your detective work however!
@golddustwoman83 I wish I could tell you, reason why I put up this video because I couldn't find any information nor any other instance online of this version - hence, lifted straight from the episode (as you can notice by the background activity and audio)
@Mokkari77 thanks for the info, going to keep this ripped version on Youtube so I don't get flagged for any copyright bs for something being sold on iTunes
@golddustwoman83 P.S. - I'd have left the video in place except HBO likes having my Youtube accounts deleted for uploading any actual video of their material. Used to upload choice clips from Boardwalk and Bill Maher and then poof - account suspended. Enjoy the audio!
This is just as true in 2012 as it was in 1920.

@golddustwoman83 It's the same in the Zune Marketplace, so it's not because of them but because of the Publisher.

Who is the vocalist on this track? She appeared in a scene at Babette's last season if I recall, correct?

@Zennofobic
You can find it on Tumblr and without any background sounds. Just put in "Kathy Brier" in the search.
