  • RIP Esbjörn Svensson

  • Someone that did this song in an instrumental version for piano lessons.. and that's where I fist fell in love with this music. Good stuff.

  • pAT rAWKS!!!

  • I love Nil's voice! It's different from George Benson's, but still warm and emotional. GREAT video!

  • Yessssss!!!!!

  • Apparently my dad went to Berklee and jammed with Michael Brecker, and when he left. And ended up seeing him Brecker play live again. He totally forgot who he was, kinda sucks

  • whats the first thing to notice about a musician? his sound. michael brecker has his sound. you can tell from one note.

  • Lovely songer. I really enjoyed this, thanks. Brecker was/is amazing. one of the best saxophonists and jazz players ever but i actually loved him because he was just one of the best players ever. He played amazingly in any style. How many guys wanted or even could do that cos' it aint as easy as you might think. It took someone very open like brecker to bring that beauty to rock, funk, blues, soul, latin etc No one and I mean no one played with more soul. RIP Michael

  • There, in real life is Mr. Brecker's gift to the world - the ability to turn the ordinary into something sensational.

  • I'm feeling this, he's doing his thing... Right on.

  • RIP brecker and esbjorn1

  • eewww George Benson his voice sounds so much warmer and more convincing.

  • Cool thanks! watching the whole thing back to back now. Wonderful.

I also like the singing - obviously someone with EARS.

  • Well at least they didn't cut out brecker. Rather heard another solo than the head. Nice performance.

  • @pswoods there is a part 2 to the video.

  • Wonderful Landgreen !!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks so much for sharing this! Real Musicians at work

  • Superbe!!!

  • Great, great post. Love the feel of this. Michael Brecker - GENIUS. Hard to believe he and Esbjorn Svensson are now gone. Thankfully they have left us all such a beautiful musical legacy...

  • Either Nils is nervous as fuck or just stonecold. Love the way he sings and Michaels solo is just.. This is the song i'm drinking myself into the abyss to.

  • yeah, it's only the d minorish part

  • on which part of the song are they improvising on? cause i never hear the second box of the song while they impro where the lyrics go "both afraid to say were just to far away" until "this lonely game to play"

  • SO COOL....................

  • this is my favorite version of this song not only instrumentally but the singing too because Nils is not a pro vocalist but he sings it with so much soul and he doesn't over do it like many people.

  • dreamteam

    :)

  • SORPRENDENTE!!!!! WOW.

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Simplemente maravilloso, colosal.¿sabe alguien si existe en el mercado la grabación en dvd o en cd de este concierto y qué discográfica lo tiene? Gracias

  • This is truely what I'd call a Super Group.

  • Thanks a lot for this video - although it reminds me sadly that two of my all time favorite jazz musicians are gone already. They went away much much to early!!!

  • Super-crew

  • A classic tune that every group seems to play at one time or another. Here is a textbook example of to play it well. Michael Brecker is the master showing us how it's done. A lot to be learned for this solo... Every kid learning improv would do well to transcribe it. This is a rare example of Brecker playing in a very "accessible" style.

  • Nils, what a beautiful, soulful voice you have! Not only a master trombone player, but a great singer as well.

  • Forever Brecker!!!

  • Probably my favourite standard! One of my favourite pianists, and one my favourite live recordings, all in all... one of my favourite experience of music!

    love it!

  • Masters.

  • No, it is MIchael Brecker, who died 2007

  • mike is a real legend, check him up if you havent heard of him

  • Haha yeah I think Steve Jobs (from Apple) is the sosie of Michael Brecker.

  • this cover of the song really touches me!

this guy doesn't sing loud but he has a good touch

  • it is really interesting to watch how people can start fighting from the stupidest shit...or just about everything!go ahead fight more i am amused

  • 2:56 Professional.

  • favourites with no doubt!

  • Brecker is just so damn soulful! Go Michael! I love you! One of my main influences on the sax (and I am an alto player!) along with Cannonball, Kenny Garrett and (wait for it...) David Sanborn.

  • Excellent post-Brecker got down!

  • It makes my danish heart so proud to see Lars Danielsson standing beside Pat Metheny and Michael Brecker:D

  • Gracias Brecker¡¡¡¡

  • THIS WAS BRILLIANT!

does anyone know wether the saxo has any solo albums?

  • Please tell me you're kidding.

  • bingefeller: Seriously, what's up with comments like this? He hasn't heard of Michael Brecker before - he liked his music and wants to hear more of him. What's wrong with that? I bet there was a time when you hadn't heard of him either. There has always got to be a first time you hear of someone, you know... So why the negative attitude when someone merely states that he likes the music?

  • Gilgond: Seriously, if I hadn't heard of Michael Brecker before I'd probably search for him on google or allmusic before asking here.

  • You're right, but I don't see the need to be so rude. You could have just pointed him in the right direction. Anyway, there's no need to take this discussion any further.

  • Michael Brecker was the BADDEST white cat on Saxophone ever! He had his own voice, unlike all the sax players you hear on the radio today. They all sound alike, not Brecker. He was old school!

  • What about Chris Potter? I feel he is the most imitated post-Brecker saxophonist.

  • Genius statement

  • Very nice and smooth, this is how jazz should sound!

  • Very good!!!!!!!!!!

  • RIP Esbjörn and Michael... we miss you... this is music, real music...

    Thanx man for this video...

  • muy,muy muy ,bueno

  • Rest in peace Esbjörn...

    Best regards,

    Sandemose

  • that is a monumental solo by brecker. absolutely amazing, and you gotta love nils. what a guy!

  • WOw

  • simply beautiful, honest singing

  • Smooth and very, very kool

  • ree-dic-u-lous..what a song!!

  • Csabi egyik kedvence...és most már kicsit az enyém is!-)))

  • Wow, fantastic performance. So sad that two of these musicians are no longer with us today...

  • we really miss Michael Brecker. One of the bests ever! Thanks for posting

  • Is there a Dvd available for this concert? I'd love to see the whole concert!

  • RIP Michael Brecker.

  • Very, very good!!!

I love Nils Landgren(vocal & trombone), perfect, brilliant hes sing.

  • damn it really cooks in Michael Brecker's solo. ..

  • When is this from?

  • I love the pattern from 3.51 to 3.58 ...

It's such a nice chord change technique ...

    Michael Brecker RIP

  • mike brecker, we miss you

  • wat a wonderful voice and tenor

  • RIP Esbjorn !

  • Lars Danielsson is a Genius! Serach for Suffering!

  • fantastico !! el solo de michael brecker es espectacular!!

  • What a nice solo by Michael Brecker...Beautiful

  • @CrossBonesAlex yah, so sad and cool at the same time - what emotions do you hear?

  • Love the beat... Each plays perfect.

What a performance. Nothing more to say.

Simple thanks is all I can say... Damn! It;s so goood~

  • Great! =)

Micheal is preforming realy well as always, looking forward to part two and a solo from esbjörn =)

  • The Best!

  • Nestor Astorga prepared a CD with the song THIS MASQUERADE in an Instrumental version done in Hammond Organ.

    Visit: nestorastorga com

  • Where did you find this. Is there a DVD somewhere?

  • i personally love the way nils sings. its not pretty...but its jazzy as hell.

  • well put.

  • @alecwin His voice really is nice. I love his duets with Rigmor Gustafsson.

  • @alecwin I adore this way of singing

  • @alecwin AGREED!

  • GO MICHAEL BRECKER! The jazz world sure misses you!

  • i would love to get this song version on mp3, does someone have it or maybe knows where i can get it? Thanks.

  • nils definitely plays better than he sings.

  • He has a very personnal kind of singin, it's his voice. Each is free to love it or not love it. I do, you don't, ok....but no need to say he does not sing well.

  • i did not say that. read my comment properly.

  • nice group of artists..

but of course, Benson IS the man to perform this wonderful song of Leon Russel :)

    Thanks for posting

    RIP M.B.

  • Actually I just came along by accident and I really love the way he sings it. He's a famous trombone player and not a famous singer. The way he sings it is quite personal. That's good.

  • It's great, but I don't like the vocalist very much...

  • Hey guys, don't mark this comment as "neg", ItzikElia was just giving his impressions about this music. Is it bad ?

  • Thanks for posting - got more?

    Seek Beauty.

  • ...We can see how humble xas Mr Brecker - he stands up and goes to the back of the scene when someone takes a solo, instead of Nils laying on his chair while not playing.

  • That's because he is singing the damn song, silly! He sings the head in the beginning, takes a solo in the middle and sings the head out at the end. Do you expect him to be running back and forth all the time? That would look tacky and unprofessional. That's why they put the stool there for him. He looks relaxed, composed and professional. And it looks to me like he is hosting the show...

  • Michael was the man, i'm telling you; without understimate any pretty good saxo player in the entire world.

  • Michael may have been the greatest musician of the 20th century.

  • My two preferd Funk artists - Nils Landgren and Mike Brecker

  • absolutely brilliant band. any more of this gig?

  • Three words: Got 2 have more!!!

  • Weird groove for this song but this is not benson, so I'm glad Pat and Micheal put their own personnal touches in this masterpiece.
