hi,im a pakistani.and i really appreciate what u people did that day on this bloody beach, which has the blood drops of many hounourable soldiers.it made me want to scream out loud when i thought,AAAARRGGGHHHHH....!!!! I WISH I WAS THERE THAT DAY!TO SACRIFICE MYSELF! just seeing ur dad tells me what hes thinking, that this was the same cruel sea fro which brave soldiers poured down, the same waves which r begging for forgivness from the sand of omaha beach....truly honourable....hang in there sir..
my dad was british navy but was attached to the rangers at omaha beach, he has never spoken about it, he was 18. just think about it? he is very proud of his medal's but he never, ever visited northern france again. i have, have you seen omaha beach? the long run up the hilll/cliff, whatever you like o call it, and at the top you got the graveyard, ball's i cried when i went there, can only add thank you guy's
It was a very quiet, special few minutes spent on the beach, not much said then or ever. His most vivid memory was of the noise. I am sure there were more untold horrors.
EasyCompanyAirborne, War is war. Ypou mention the Brit high commnad etc. directing the war in London, what about Shitler and his fellow lunatics directing the war in Berlin?? What about the Brit, Canadian, French, & USA infantry landing on those beaches, what about the Soviet troops?? Grunts are grunts and they all experience the same.
Ok. Thanks. I always though the Canadians had an easy time, until the English made them fight at Caen. Most people only know Omaha Beach, as this was where the big fighting was done.
EasyCompanyAirborne - you really must read more about D-Day. Yes, Omaha was the bloodiest beach, thanks to various foul-ups, but everyone else had their share of hell, including the Brits and Canadians on Gold, Juno and Sword. Always remember that troops from many nations stormed the D-Day beaches - not just Americans. In fact, American troops were in the minority that awful day. This is not to deny the sacrifice and commitment of American boys, but just to put the record straight!
renard. I have read up on D-Day. It was a fight of Germans vs Americans. The Americans won, as they were better, and the Germans lost, as they normally do.
For pity's sake, here we go again! Why do some Americans (mainly youngsters) refuse to accept the multi-national nature of the Allied invasion? It is simple fact that the western sector (Utah, Omaha, the Cherbourg peninsula airborne drops) was American, the eastern (Gold, Juno, Sword and associated airborne landings) were British and Canadian (including other British Commonwealth troops), French, Polish, etc. What is the problem with understanding that? They ALL deserve our respect and thanks.
renard. D-Day is only famous because it was an American victory. If the Americans had not taken part, the world would probably not even know about it. It has to involve Americans to be a famous battle.
Ho hum, from such a foolish comment I can only assume that you are either very young and naive (you didn't even know about Juno beach), or you are deliberately trying to be provocative. Either way, I have better things to do than waste any more time with you. Perhaps some day you will bother to learn the truth and to give credit to ALL the poor boys from so many countries who fought and died to give you the freedom to make stupid remarks on YouTube.
No. You are right. I do not know much about Juno beach. The important beaches were Omaha and Utah.
As for freedom. There will always be freedom as the United States of America exists. If Europe wants to fight wars, it is up to them. The only important country is the United States, and that will always be free.
and i guess you have sen Band of Brothers i draw your conclusions on that.
Yes i think Easy made an impact when they Tok out those Guns that weas fiering on the beach. But the main battle that is i big ?????. as i said before The invasion of Fortress Europe was one JOINT operation stopp pretending US is the only state in this world .
picard. It is true. It was a joint operation, as were the allies. However, the US was the main force, which also mentored the others. Only the US could have achieved this level of excellence. The US was up against a weak enemy, but could have taken nearly anyone on the day.
EasyCompanyAirborne, You're an idiot & an insult to the USA. I'm a veteran, & served with WWII veterans. Please keep your stupid, rude, arrogant, immature mouth shut.
christof. So what? There were at least 50 million veterans of WW2. The ones who took part in the easy battles like this one all sit around patting themselves on the back. You say you served with veterans of WW2. That is just pathetic. It means that you knew one of 50 million people. Big deal! You are the ignorant one. I guess you know nothing of war. If you want to find out about the reality of war, ask a German soldier who had to resist these landings.
EasyCompanyAirborne, Like I said, you're an idiot. I don't have to ask a German veteran. Any veteran will tell you about the same about the reality of war dumb ass.
christof. With all respect, what you say is rubbish. Every veteran has a different experience. I can assure you that the Germans guarding the beach had a different experience than the English officers directing the war from London. What war were you in anyway?
EasyCompanyAirborne, War is war. Ypou mention the Brit high commnad etc. directing the war in London, what about Shitler and his fellow lunatics directing the war in Berlin?? What about the Brit, Canadian, French, & USA infantry landing on those beaches, what about the Soviet troops?? Grunts are grunts and they all experience the same.
chistof. No you are very wrong, That shows me that you have little experience in war. Any fool can go into war with an overwhelming advantage and come out looking great. That's why I say ask a German vet. There is all the difference between winning and losing. That is why Brits like you will never understand. You run before you lose, like in France.
No, I am very right. I am not a Brit, I am a USA infantry veteran & served from 1970-73 & a couple of times after for shorter periods in the reserves. So, you can please shut your ignorant mouth. Death is death, and slaughter & killing anywhere is just that.
christoft. Infantry reserves? Were you even on active duty in a war zone? Death is death. But it makes a big difference if those being killed are on your side or the other side. The United States is at war now, and so all people in the US are now involved in a war. They may be badly affected, as they see things on the news. Being a solider in the Iraqi Republican Guard under heavy attack and having all your pals killed is a bit different. You obviously know nothing.
Oi you total and utter idiot without us Brits the war would've been lost. We did not run at all. We were the only country in Europe at war that wasn't occupied. Our tiny Island resited Nazi tyranny for 6 years. About half that time without America. We were the ones who declared war and stood up to bullies like Hitler and Mussolini. Do us all a favour and don't comment.
This man and others like him lived so that we might enjoy the sound of the sea breaking on the shore...... Thanks

What happened at Juno Beach. I always thought the action was on Omaha Beach.
EasyCompanyAirborne 3 years ago
Omaha & Utah were the code names for the US landing sites, Gold & Sword for the Brits, while Juno was the Canadian landing site
