Thomas episodes in the US compared to UK, call The Fat Controller Sir Topham Hatt because there was a discrimination and racism towards the name "The Fat Controller" because of fat people in the US, people judged the name "The Fat Controller" was offensive to Americans due to the obesity of the US, so they call the character Sir Topham Hatt instead.

@AsukaJudai Obesity is everywhere, not just in the USA. The Fat controler is also a bad name in more than one country. Also, Controler is a useless and powerless name for a railroad executive in the USA, so Controler wasnt used because of that, not because of obesity.

I haven;t seen this episode in other ten years but i know what you mean. This originally was supposed to have that Thomas story in but because ringo starr had left before they had recorded it so for TV Purposes they put in thomas' christmas party and when they released it on tape they put in a edited UK Version of it editing out all lines to the Fat Controller. Thats what i read on TTTE Wikia

@LOVEABLEGOURGEOUSMAN I guess American audiences would find "Fat Controller" offensive. When I first saw Sir Topham Hatt referred to that way in a Thomas book, I wondered why. Later on, I found out he has a more informal relationship with the engines in the American version than the original UK. In our version, they refer to him by his real name, but in the UK, refer to him as they see him.

Because of the fact Ringo was leaving at that time, they did not do a US version. So they cut the lines that mentioned "The Fat Controller". However, those lines are said in the UK version.
