@Armatige It's not as hard as it looks. Not this one, anyway. Simply having a million bullets on the screen does not necessarily mean that it is, at that moment, difficult. It depends on the pattern; HOW they're being fired at you is more important than how MANY.
As it is, this is one of the easier final bosses in a Cave game.
You want to see a hard one, go look up the fight with Larsa in Futari. Or the fight with Doom in Ketsui. Larsa is by far the worst of the entire genre though.
Oh wow. I went and had a look at the Larsa fight. I was laughing to hard to see the difficulty :) Good lord. I do love a good shoot em up though. I might have a look at getting Death Smiles. Thanks for the tip mate. That was amazing to look at.
If you'd like to try other "danmaku" type shmups (bullet-hell), there are a couple that you can get off of Live, if you have a 360, which you probably do if you're thinking of getting Deathsmiles.
There is Guwange, which is made by the same developer... Made by the same developer, Cave, it's not easy, but the scoring system is good and it's a fun game.
Also look for Trouble Witches Neo. Not by Cave, that one, so it's not quite like their style. Good though.
@jpopkamaria Hibachi? No. More famous, maybe, certainly more versions of him, but harder? Nah.
Hibachi in the first DDP isnt THAT bad... in DFK he's also not that bad, since you've got so much bullet-cancelling power in that game.
He was at his worst in DOJ, particularly in Death Label. I've come close to beating him in Death Label, though.... whereas with Larsa, I dont have a ghost of a chance yet. As such, I stick with Larsa being tougher.
@Deihlanos People have said the same thing to me about Hibachi and without the hyper canceling, I don't know if it is possible, or at least I haven't seen it.
Larsa is definitely worse, not to mention getting a chance to fight her is hard enough.
@Deihlanos Totally, there's hard and then there's cheap. It doesn't matter how many bullets are on the screen, it's whether there's a realistic option for dodging them. Cave games are hard as hell, but they're not cheap. IMO Don Pachi is 100x easier than, say, Darius Gaiden.
Thanks for posting this! I just got the US version a couple days ago and it kicks ass! There definitely aren't enough videos on youtube of people destroying this game.
They do take alot of work though, which tends to put off alot of players. I guess it depends on if you like this sorta game; if you do, you probably wont have any trouble with doing it over and over to get better.
The endboss isnt THAT bad, certainly not compared to Cave's others, and though the final stage is a snot, they're certainly doable.
@lLoveKonata I never found the Touhou games to be all that difficult, myself. Geometric patterns may be pretty, but they dont always equate to being very difficult. At least, not compared to what I'm used to; most of Cave's titles are way harder than that series. Deathsmiles here, though, is definitely an exception; the game really seems like it was intended for those newer to the shmup genre, which is rare for a Cave title.
@K1llerSpades I'd say so, though I'd go for Futari before this one, I think. Deathsmiles is pretty great, but my one problem with it is that the scoring system is kinda blah. The US version is a better deal right now than the import version, since it comes with Mega Black Label, which really adds alot to the game. Overall, there's alot of content here, so yeah, I'd say it's worth it, even though it's not Cave's best.
@Locksus Either version of Mushi is definitely worth it, though Futari is better than the original, in part for it's scoring system that actually makes sense.
If you get Futari though, make sure to get Black Label along with it. And either way, be prepared to die alot :P
tyrannosatan? truly this is what the appocalypse is. Haha this game looks mad I might have to get it if it ever get translated and bought out here in the UK. Only shmup I ever played really was super r-type, although I got pretty good at it this will probably kick my ass...
@riddles58 The first 6 stages are fairly short by shmup standards (though there's a boss at the end of each), the 7th and Extra stages are both very long, taking about 7-8 minutes to reach the end of. Overall, it's about the usual length of a Cave game. However, this one is easier than pretty much every other game they've made, so it'll take most players much less time to 1cc (beat without continuing) this game. There's additional stages and such if you buy Mega Black Label (DLC).
@Scarlettexashes Actually this is pretty much the easiest game Cave has yet made. It didnt take me all that long to beat this one on the highest difficulty. The final boss isnt all that hard by Cave's standards. This game is a great starting point for players new to the genre though. Not to mention just a really great shmup overall.
First of all, dont do what I did and go berserk with the cubes, you wanna do a quick shot, and then pass through, another quick shot, and so on.
When he goes above the screen and does the "hand thing", going up above and to his left as I did is a good idea (I screwed it up though). Just be careful of the tight burst he'll belch at you.
His final attacks arent as bad as they look.... but if you get there and have bombs left over, just use them at that point.

I do not think that I could even get past the first 2 minutes of this game let alone the end boss.
Wow.

it looks very hard , can someone who plays this the first time , beat this?
DiscoZocker 1 year ago
@DiscoZocker Probably not. These games are not designed to be beaten in a single sitting; they take practice to finish properly.
This one though is one of the easier ones by Cave.

and what about that :
If i start the first level and practice my skills can i beat the boss someday??
