  • i still subscribed*** lol

  • ahh okay sorry for the late reply, i had a mini portable HDD by seagate goflex i think it was, 500Gb 5400rpm i think, i took the case off and took it out of the housing and used it in my ps3 after i formatted it to fat32 and hard loaded the FW 4.0.0 through usb. 500gb ps3 works like a charm now, :) ill still subscribe

  • I was just wondering if you could help me with something, my old 40gb ps3 died a few weeks back (yellow light) and I got a new slim harddrive, now I was just wondering if I removed the harddrive from the 40gb and put it into the slim, would I be able to copy the saves onto a usb and then place the slim harddrive back in without worrying about damaging my new ps3.

    Thanks in advance

  • @brokendrifter nope.. the harddrive in the PS3 is directly tied to the PS3 itself. the moment you turn on the ps3 w/the old 40gb hdd in, it would prompt to format the drive. only way would be to get the old ps3 up long enough to copy to a usb stick. :( sorry for the bad news..

  • To all the people asking, buy a 500 (750 if you can find one) that runs at 5400 RPM SATA Laptop Hard Drive. 5400 is safe, there are rumors out there that anything above can have undesired effects.

  • @MMusashi420 i personally am running a 320GB 7200rpm in my PS3 slim. it actually got rid of my stuttering issues i had w/a few EA games like madden 11. :) i believe heat was the main concern from the faster speeds more than anything.

  • I used to know how to do this thn i took an arrow to the knee

  • @killerz250 LOLZ! :)

  • @killerz250 yes! i got an arrow in the knee comment. skyrim FTW!

  • @seamonkey420 hey is there any thing like a 750gb HDD 500 is good if not. please PM me a link or just the make and model of the HDD you upgraded to. i need at LEAST 500gb in my slim to handle hundreds of HD videos. ill subscribe if u help me ;)

  • @demonsparkx i've used several 500GB Western digital models. main thing is that they have to be laptop harddrives, sata, 5400rpm or 7200 rpm. an example model: Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BPVT 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive from newegg or a SAMSUNG Spinpoint M7E HM501II 500GB

  • @demonsparkx i believe there is actually a 750GB drive out that will fit into the slot on the PS3. they do make 1TB and 750GB drives for laptops but they have more spindles and in turn are much thicker than the common 9.5mm. i believe the 1TBs are in the 11.25mm area; way too big to fit into a ps3. but its been a few months since i've checked :)

  • Next time freaking show yourself screwing the damn thing. Otherwise okay video.

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord my bad. thought that would be pretty boring and self explanatory. thanks for stopping by though :)

  • Can it be any rpm hdd

  • @micrill50 yup. you see a very minor improvement using a 7200rpm since it reads faster and will load games a tiny bit faster. i use a 7200rpm drive in my PS3 slim.

  • THIS IS THE GINSU KNIFE.

  • Thanks good video

  • You should have repositioned the camera, you can't see anything of what you're doing! d'oh!

  • Sayta? It's S.A.T.A!

  • @soupdragon151 Sayta, SATA. tomato, tomaato.. ;)

  • What hard drive is that again, and where can I get this. I have a 120 gb ps3 HDD and at this very day out of 120 GB I only have 10 mb left. So I need a upgrade bad.

  • my old ps3 died ylod so I brough a slim. question can I use the old hard drive and put it in the slim because I have so many games and costumes and videos on that old 60gig hard drive

  • @dutchieboyy215 of course u can.... but it would be better to back up the info that is on the 60gig HD to an external HD, and the transfer the info from the external HD the new slim PS3's HD.... because the slim ps3 has a bigger capacity.

  • @dutchieboyy215 yes there the same sizes

  • what if you have data on ur old hard drive how do u transfer it to ur ner harddrive

  • @kolinmartz u will need to back up the info on an external HD

  • @kolinmartz external hardrive or a usb

  • can anybody tell me if the firmware version does matter? as far as a slim ps3 can anybody tell me

  • @rauly08 no but once u connect ur ps3 to the internet it will auto update to the latest firmware. besides on the sony web site they already have the latest version for download

  • u didint even show nothing but the ps3 no how to nothing.....

  • are the hard drives in the slim the same size in the fat ps3's because the fat ps3's are 2.5 inches

  • @borofalcon101 yes, they are the same size including the limitation of 9.5mm max height/thickness :)

  • can you install any, ANY internal hardrive onto the ps3? im planning to put in a 7200rpm 1tb hdd

  • @menglis3 nope, you have to be sure its a SATA I or SATAII 2.5" laptop harddrive. Also the size of the drive has to be 9.5mm in height. so the 1TB drives won't fit, they are 12.5mm i believe and too fat. hope that helps. oh yea, i've been using my 7200 rpm 500GB in my Slim for over a year w/o any issues. better performance than the stock 5400. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @seamonkey420 tell me if anything happens in the long run, i might go with the 7200 rpm too, but since i dont want any troubles i might get the 5400 rpm one, or whatever rpm it is.

  • what do you recommend I back up my data to? An external HDD or a flash drive? and which type

  • ok so youve used a 7200rpm HDD for more than a year now... any problems?

  • @dudetube911 none at all :) better than new

  • if i just open a new ps3 never played do i have to back it up when i upgrade

  • @shotgunguy1000 nope. your fine. sorry for late reply

  • Im going to upgrade to 350gb

  • 7200 is bad due to it causes the ps3 to work harder than it should causing overheating faster

  • do u need to install the hard drive or formatt it?

  • @BRAeminem ps3 will do this once you power up or restore. :)

  • Does this work the same for a 160gb ps3

  • I have the 250 gb ps3, how big can i upgrade it?

  • @ASIANphantom hey man .. buy a 2.5" laptop hard drive . id say go with 500gb .. and u can chose to run 5400rpm or 7200 rpm but if u have games like gt5 and FF id say go with the 7200rpm just go into any computer store or a best buy or something and ask for a 500gb 2.5" laptop hard drive and they will hook you up and then watch this video on how to install it :) ....but make sure u back up all your data onto a external hard drive before u get your new one in :P

  • you say sata funny, its like a satan version however you say it, growing up building computers and working on it for my job i always have heard it more like the word sat-ah

  • so just need same hardrive but bigger hdd that what u mean right?

  • will a 7200rpm seagate be faster than the stock i just wanna know case my ps3 is really slow and i wanna speed it up if anyone can answer this it would be greatly appreciated?

  • @911turbo5 yes, it should be. however it won't be night and day fast but def is noticeable in game installs.

i used a 7200rpm in my slim and it seems to solve the stuttering issues i had with EA games like Madden 11 and def loads GT5 faster than my PS3 phat with a 5400rpm drive.

  • amazon has a 640gb for 50 free shipping

also do a backup before installing new drive

  • i like ur chiness music cool man!

  • Arn't They Pin protected

  • hey mate just a thought its a video so perhaps you should make one that shows us what to do, you did all the work away fromt he video, lol badabing badaboom try pointing the video at what you are doing

  • @seamonkey420 Hey man, can you tell me if you HAVE to back up your PS3 files or if upon switching the HDD, the ps3 does the instal of the OS by itself.

    Thanks!

  • does the hard drive need to be 2.5 inch satal 5400rpm

  • dude, after replacing the disk it will prompt you to press the PS button and install the version. Should I download the version and paste it on the root directory of a USB? Please advise, I'm stuck

  • why did you buy a 250gb

  • man ur video sucks i cant see sheet....>=(

  • hey, would you know if this HDD would work on the ps3 slim?

Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

  • if you take the hard drive out of a ps3 SLIM can you turn it on and if u can turn it on and do turn it on can it damage ur ps3 sum1 leme know thanks

  • If I have the HDD from my fat ps3 but dont have the fatty (it got destroyed) can i put it in my slim? i know it will fit but will it need to be formatted or anything?

  • where do u get a new hardrive from?

  • @a17008 any place that sells laptop, sata harddrives. :) sataI or sataII, 5400rpm or 7200rpm, any size up to 725GB (1TB drives are too high to fit in a PS3)

newegg .com is a good place to buy from, reputable store and good shipping/cs.

  • @seamonkey420 did you mean 750

  • @a17008 amazon best buy walmart but look for 2.5 models. if i were u i would buy from amazon is way cheaper

  • i have a fat ps3 with no backwards compatibility, if i swap a slim hardrive with it will it have backwards compatibility?

  • What do u need the extra 500 gbs for if u hav 250gb

  • @chriscmac23 my movies :) I have converted almost every DVD I own to mp4

I prefer having them on my ps3 vs streaming.

  • @seamonkey420 i plan on getting a ps3 should iget a ps3 and upgrade the hard drive? is upgrading it worth it?

  • @seamonkey420 How do you convert your movies to mp4?

  • @CaseyTheDrummerBoy here's my process for DVD to MP4 conversions:

    1. Rip movie to pc harddrive via DVDFab

    2. Convert dvd movie to mp4 using Handbrake

    3. Copy mp4s to PS3 either via my SDHC memory card or via my Media Server

    4. Create the animated Thumbnail

hope that gets you going! :)

  • @seamonkey420 Thank you! :) But what do you mean by creating an animated thumbnail?

  • @CaseyTheDrummerBoy if you play the movie, and hit Triangle, then go to the top and 3rd from the right option; Create Thumbnail. Once you choose it, it will create a 15sec animated clip for the thumbnail from the point of the movie you hit the button/option on. :)

pretty cool looking when you have over 10 movie thumbnails playing while your browsing your movies!

  • @seamonkey420 Oh yeah, I know what you mean. I was confused.

  • did you just bought? this?

  • 3:30 Armpit Hair

  • i have a question i have a 80gb fat ps3 and i just got the ylod so i took the hardrive out but i dont think that it will fit in the new ps3 that i am gonna buy because of the way you put it in is different then the old way can someone help me out???

  • the harddrive will fit, however you will need to remove it from the phat's harddrive tray and put it in the slim's tray.

however, just as a heads up: you can't just remove a harddrive from one ps3 and put it in another ps3 and expect all of your data to be there. the harddrive is associated with the phat ps3 and when you put it in your slim it will prompt to format it.

you would need to do a real backup via the XMB > Settings > System Settings > backup restore utility

  • thanks sea monkey but i think it will be hard to do backup and everything when my playstation has ylod lol

  • @Reiterj3

Just look up the video "easy fix ps3 ylod the one that involves a guy using a hair dryer, a box, a fan"

  • yeah my launch 60 gig got the ylod about two months ago :/ it sucks cuz i dont have a job so i can't get a new ps3 yet

  • I put a WD Blue Scorpio 640GB in mine. It was a 120GB stock. It formated itself without it being formatted to FAT32 and installed in under 10:00min. Have 596/640GB 529GB available.

  • seriously who is the dumbfuck that couldnt figure this out? its not that hard bro. thanks for the vid but you have to be 305 retarded if you cant figure out how to do this...
