A way to distract the incoming soldiers, is this: build and spread around your base a lot of outpost (around 5,6). I dont know why, but the IA loves destroying this structures, leaving your town without danger. When they destroy it, they will go for the nearest villagers than you have (or towers). Just build a couple of towers near your town center to avoid direct damage to your citizens. Create and garrison 3 archers into the towers, by that way the enemies will die fast ^^
I made a different strategy to destroy the wonder... I create around 15~19 heavy camels and 4 trebuchets, going through the same path of qballcc7 . With the camels killing the cavalry easily and protecting the trebuchets i was able to destroy it.
i never get the cannons when i play this mission, i preffer the hard way.
@V1d3nT3 I guess if you can accumulate the resources for those units by all means go ahead and use your strategy. I just find it difficult to gather those resources.
@qballcc7 Oh, god! I did all what you said. And when i came to where to destroy the wonder. The wonder was TOO much into the base. So that my bombard cannons couldnt reach it.. So i was like, hmm should i do the cheat "how do you turn this on"? Then i clicked on my Castle and looked on the petard. I made some of them. AND BOOM BAI BAI Castle! Haha! Love your vids! I allways look on your videos THEN i continue the campaigns. I do right the same what you do. Man i wish i knew u irl :D
@qballcc7 Yeah, man! Cant wait till you do Age of Empires 1! But it looks SO hard. :) Oh btw. What civilitations do u much prefer in Age of empires 1 and 2?
@qballcc7 It was a bit tricky. I had to invest in Cannon Galleons first to get partial control over the coastline, then move villagers plus a cover force to get up attack buildings. It wasn't too hard once I got the buildings up as I had trebuchets to lay waste to their Keeps and buildings, and a powerful force of Camels/Maugaudi/Cavaliars to defeat their forces. Would have been easier with the Bombards ofc.
Thanks for this walkthrough, man! I'm still playing AoE II as well, and the Jin keep owning my ass because I can't build an army fast enough that's big enough to take down the wonder before the timer goes.
@qballcc7 I did this time, and I destroyed the wonder with your strategy. Although I screwed it up twice because the lousy villagers messed the wall and castle construction up, lmao, and the cavaliers came a'calling.
On Hard mode, is the game still hard post-Jin wonder takedown? The game was really, really easy after that for me : against the Tanguts, I had 61 troops and only lost 2. This was on Standard.
Thanks once again for the strategy! Time to turn west.
@ReflexSight Yeah, it's not uncommon to mess up at that point. There is just so much micro it's hard not to.
My answer is no. Personally, in any scenario after you take care of a wonder type objective, the simple turtle and attack method makes for a very easy scenario.
qball - great video series. Helped me finally beat Saladin's last campaign.
On this one, seems like you skipped a bit around the gates/castle. In the previous vid you were building a gate. The only thing I can see on this vid is a castle in front of where the gates used to be. What did you do around this area?
@notanakin Thanks man, good to hear that the videos have helped you out. Anyways, in order to save you guys from viewing boring segments, I cut out the mundane things that don't require strategy like building structures, researching techs, or gathering resources. I'll usually update on the changes made while off-screen, but I guess I didn't in this part. Basically what I did, and hopefully this is what you're referring to, is I built 3 gates within the old Chinese gates and a Castle behind it.
@qballcc7 : Thanks for the reply. My big problem is that the Town Centre never survives. At the end of the previous part the TC was getting battered. How does the TC make it through?
Seems like I'm still in Feudal while the enemy is in Imperial, so my cavalry etc. is easily wiped out if I try to defend the TC.
@notanakin Well, to remedy that it's important that you get across the river and salvage those bombard cannons to take down the Keeps and gates in the Great Wall. Doing so will allow you to build your own gates, therefore bottlenecking the enemy units. That is vital and it allows you to use all of the resources on your side of the map. That also will allow to get more resources and then units up.
fuckin jins they built their castle further from the wall so i had to get in. Fortunately there were a lot of lumberjacks coming through the gate. nice strategy
you should probably paused the game to multitask everything. if you get husbandry and bloodlines, you can sort of kite the cavaliers, run to the edge of fire and fire once, then run away, im pretty sure it works except when the AI regroup your archers
"You will be proclaiming yourself as Bill Gates on the Streets of China" lol nice video and Like you said bombard cannons are great for destroying half thr base and getting rid of annoying towers and castles, if I have the chsnce to use them I will. :) you know your stuff! *like*
@TheChosenPaladin Haha, Bill Gates flaunting his Mongolian stuff in China would be hot :). Anyways, thanks for the compliments man, it's good to hear that you see the same value in those Bombard Cannons. Those alone are the key to the wonder destruction and therefore the entire mission.

@V1d3nT3 I could do that but it would take a lot of micromanaging on my part, something I'm not to adroit at in this scenario.

@BenBenjaBenjamin I wish, it's probably not that high though, I'm really not very smart.

this one was tricky, I can't beleive I didn't think of just friggin going across the river, kinda undermines the whole "Great Wall" build up

@RaiderJake26 Yeah, I wish they left out the alternative river path too.

@Mr1specugf1 Yeah. I've heard that people think it is more difficult. I don't really have a favorite in AoE 1. I'd say the Britons in AoE 2.
qballcc7 6 months ago
I didn't have Bombards at that point so I stocked up on Trebs/Maugaudi/Cavailiars and bumrushed the base.
anduril38 1 year ago
@anduril38 Theoretically it would be tough to get a big force up without using the bombard cannons.
