All I want to know is whether any band member of Pink Floyd ever served their country in the military. I will reserve my final judgement of them until I know the answer.
@GirlFromIpanema1966 Roger Waters father opposed World War II and drove an ambulance to avoid serving. At some point he changed his mind and enlisted. He died when Roger was 5 months old. I don't know about any of the other members, I just learned this because it kind of relates to The Wall.
@GirlFromIpanema1966 You're a complete dolt! Roger Waters lost his father in war, and it shaped is outlook from there on. War only deprives children of their fathers/parents. Citizenship has never been derived from military service, in any civilization.
@GirlFromIpanema1966 if you've ever listened to absolutely any of their music its very clear that they are all anti-war. why should they fight in something they clearly don't agree with you absolute idiot.
The first time I saw this (in a movie theater with a really good sound system), I was utterly stunned at how GOOD this was. This is the kind of cinema verite' we don't see very much of anymore. You are literally viewing the genesis of one of the greatest albums of all time. Rick Wright: parked behind that huge Steinway, noodling, working out the riffs on (IMHO) the best track on the album while Alan Parsons is inside the control room, fiddling with the buttons to get that awesome mix.

They've only got the round apple pies now, Nick. Want one?
I'm still trying to figure out the apple pie bit. Was he wanting them to just cut a square shape out of the whole pie, thereby bypassing the crust? But I'm thinking they were just messing around. I've read that the Floyd had great senses of humor.

It's a pity that none of them ever served a day in the military; they really could have made something of their life. Now they find themselves unemployed and alone.
@GirlFromIpanema1966 im not sure if you are trolling, or just very stupid. please, please say it is the former and that you are not calling some of the greatest musicians of all time worthless. Everyone has their opinion i guess, if you don't like their music, you don't like it, but artists have contributed just as much to the world we know today as soldiers. Read up on the Renaissance and tell me that those artists would have done better for our civilization by putting on a uniform
@GirlFromIpanema1966 I done forgot what I questioned you about and why youre telling me none (PF) ever served. I must have been responding to the comment you made that has now been removed.
Because people serving in the military are the only ones who ever make it in life.
Pink Floyds musicians are able to get up every day, do something they love doing, enrich the lives of people who can appreciate what they do, and make a better-than-average living doing it.
The military does good things and bad things, but it's fundamentally an instrument of war whichever way you look at it. It's an institution of our capacity for violence and aggression one way or another.
I have, and in that world he was merely a successful artist who fails. Stalin also lasts an extra decade. Then Japan rapes all of Asia and nobody really cares.
@GirlFromIpanema1966 Dieing for anothers will and lust for sin, power, violence, and money. serving disgusting crimes on humanity like retaliation, revenge, and cold blooded murder. destroying economys and killing, That is your Fascist war machine. they chose the path of peace and you, Being a hateful sinful creature expressed your stubborn disaproval. i pity you
@GirlFromIpanema1966 what is your problem with people needing to serve in the army!??! its not for everyone. just chill about it. it doesn't mean that person is shameful and unemployed and has ruined their life! you're an idiot!
@guitarguy951 Because this is no original footage but contrived by Floyd for their pompeii project.
This is the Live at pompeii 1974 version which was released 2 years after the first one. in the 1974 version the Dark Side recording scenes were put in, but at the time of recording the film they've had already finished recording the album and they were about mixing at that time, so they contrived the recording scenes.
Conceived by the French director Adrian Maben as "an anti-Woodstock film," Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii was shot in October 1971 in a vacant, 2,000-year-old amphitheater--a venue chosen to accentuate the grandeur and spaciousness of the band's Meddle-era music. This disc contains a new, 90-minute director's cut as well as the original 60-minute concert film, whose production and effects feel inescapably dated. Maben's cut goes to great lengths to lend the film a more contemporary feel.
I'm 44 now and have had a copy of this album since I was 11, I shall have a copy of it until I die, in fact I have the whole album on my mobile phone right now : )
I remember seeing this movie when I was in college during the 80's. Never seen anything else like it. Oh, I also saw "Henry, portrait of a Serial Killer" too. Great movie.
@lucksantistaFC Rolling Stone didn't include them in their "100 greatest musicians/bands of all times" because that magazine sold out to a pseudo-intellectual elitist group of society.
@CAinfowarrior Rolling Stone sucks horse cock, they think they are so smart. Last time I checked you play with your soul and your balls, check your head at the door.
@Jouwl I think maybe there is a possibility that the bands who have the best chance of becoming successful and famous have singers with high voices because that is what most people want to hear in rock music. Or maybe it's because the record labels know that's what sells. History kind of shows it. Go figure. Blues however....
Apparently they had square pies. A center piece would not have much crust. He didn't want any round pie when offered some. He wanted a piece of square apple pie. How could a guy who wants square pie be high?
This was "extra" footage that was shot to lengthen the Live From Pompeii film. It was shot quite some time after the pompeii shoot. It is a wonderful accident it just happens to catch them recording one of the most famous albums ever. You can hear Rick getting towards the final performance from the album cut as well as the slightly different sax piece from Dick Parry. So incredible that this exists.
A unique magic moment captured in time, that we never saw again.
This were the recording sessions of one of the musics of "The Dark Side Of The Moon" very few time after 3 days of "isolation" and inspiration on Pompeii...
The most magic moment on the entire history of music.
Rick's piano is so beautiful, this is without a doubt my favorite Pink Flyd song in the world. These guys together make the most beautiful, touchingly true music.
Somebody get the man some pie! And hold the crust! ;-)
I adore this whole video-- it is amazing to see the band constructing this album and stepping out from Syd's shadow, to create something which will be one of THE great albums.

A unique magic moment captured in time, that we never saw again.
This were the recording sessions of one of the musics of "The Dark Side Of The Moon" very few time after 3 days of "isolation" and inspiration on Pompeii...
The most magic moment on the entire history of music.

Hey! Not even Pink Floyd themselves gets to interrupt a Pink Floyd song like that. Disrespecting their own work.
