  • I'm sure there's a great reason to do your own editorializing and graphics over a perfectly good video. Unfortunately, I don't have a damn clue as to what that reason is.

  • Just before Pat started her charging, I liked the game face that Randy had there. With the way he was using his hands, he looked like a t-rex.

  • is the airdates known? sorry if that's a stupid question...

  • If this show is revived, I suggest we call the show "Gauntlet" because "Whew" is unpronouncable.

  • when i had half days or days off from school (7th grade) i DID NOT miss this show!! I loved it!! Oh, U "millinium kids" U missed the all those great daytime games shows: Hollwood Squares, Gong Show, Match Game, Split Second, Now U see it.

  • if this show moved a lil quicker on top of it not succumbing to a celebrity version it might have lasted longer

  • Ok Hitler has nothing to do with this "Whew!" clip. Randy Amasia was an average contestant who went up there, played the game and won over $26,000 for his college tuition. Unless you know him like that, you need to give a good reason on why Randy is a prick. Also, on Hitler, that dude killed anyone and everyone just cause he wanted to; FOR FUN! The problem got settled a long time ago and is something that we've learned in history books. So, in fairness, Hitler got what he deserved.

  • now if you dont get how the show goes, thats cool, but talking about a guy who is no longer living, thats sad yo. that's disrespectful!

  • According to someone on the GSN Forum about the game show 'Whew',

"The master copies are sitting in Burt Sugarman's garage collecting dust. Two episodes featuring contestant Randy Amasia were released into private collections upon his 2001 passing; they have become somewhat common amongst traders and are even on YouTube. Aside from that, Mr. Sugarman evidently has no desire to let the shows ever again see the light of day."

  • Why him? Why the greedy type? I'll give him whatever he wants!

  • I'll tell you who's even more greedy: NBC for not releasing any of their game shows that they have in their possession.

  • At least someone otherwise respectful has the rights to this. But the least he could do is watch it!

  • You know, put the tapes to use. I'd be fine as long as he actually watches them.

  • It's about time I look at someone exactly 7 years after his death and realize his incredible journey. Randy Amasia is an example to us game show fans for picking a game, exploiting it and helping us remember him and the game for years to come. Pat Aileo looks like she has stayed with a consistant stratey her entire time. Randy was strategic in all rounds as both a charger and a blocker; exposing how predictable Pat is. He is doing a good job so far.

  • RIP Rod Roddy.

  • i loved this show when i was a kid. Very gimmicky, but very entertaining.

  • What did Randy die from?

  • Don't quote me on this because it's been a long time, but I think throat cancer. I interviewed him through e-mail for a college class about him being on game shows, not even one month before he passed. So sad.

  • You would be correct, Randy did indeed succumb to throat cancer.

  • Randy West? Is that who you're talking about?

  • No, referring to former game show contestant and ATGS poster Randy Amasia, a friend of just about every game show fan of the Internet.

  • what was that music at the start of it?

  • The theme from "Dirty Rotten Cheater."

  • From what I understand, the search for the tape intenseified when we learned Randy was on his deathbed. Randy died on Dec. 12, Approx. eight house after his death I think is when someone finally found the tape. But, I may have the events reversed, the tape was found and he died eight hours later. Either way, I wasn't a big fan of Randy, but I honestly wish he had got to see the tape before he died.

  • I have a request for Seth MacFarlane: Parody the "Whew!" intro on Family Guy, albeit just for the nine people who remember this show? Have Lois flashback to where her rich dad apparently hides her weekly allowance in a basement/dungeon, making her sneak past a gauntlet of villians (i.e., Osama, Hitler, Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, O.J.) for it. Complete with the exact same theme music! She wipes the sweat off her forehead and sighs "Whew!" just before giving Osama a surprise kick to the groin.

  • What is this, some kinda Scooby-Doo/Jeopardy? Forgive my igorance, baby boomers. I was busy being squeezed out mommy's birth canal during Whew's short life span. I do remember Tom Kennedy from "Body Language."

I love the opening sequence! The girl sneaking to the pot of gold reminds me of Daphne, or any potential Janet Waldo voiced female character (yes, I read the closing credits on the shows). Can I put my money in my mouth and say that Bill Hanna & Joe Barbera are somehow guilty?

  • I don't really understand this game. Are the mistaken answers supposed to rhyme or to be related or something...? Forgive my lack of understanding.

  • They're bloopers. Contestants as Chargers have to fix or correct the underlined, incorrect words or phrases with the proper words or phrases. They have to do that once per level to move up the board. Sometimes the incorrect parts of sentences rhyme with what are supposed to be the correct parts.

  • Just like "This Statement is False", only faster.

  • This show is at the speed of a bipolar manic mind!!My thoughts are racing just watching this!!!

  • How long did this show last? It came out in 1979, but didn't last long.

  • I can see why. xP

  • This lasted just over a year.

  • when gsn going to start showing this?

  • Probably never. Sugarman's asking price is probably too high....same reason why VH1's short-lived re-airing of "Midnight Special" lasted barely a few months. (Sugarman owns those tapes, too.)

  • Well, the only thing I hope Sugarman does by now is putting the tapes to use.

  • Sugarman is also the reason why Hitman dosnt air.

  • No. It's because of those little films they showed. They only had the rights to show them once.

  • That was one reason. Later on, in like syndication, they need permission from the tape holder, who in this case, is Sugarman.

  • @secondchance1977 Absolutely wrong.

  • Here's how I would revamp this show: Replace the block sound effect with an effect that evokes slamming into a wall, give the villains voices, and possibly change the name.

  • Would have loved to have seen Pat's failing attempt at the Gauntlet.

  • Triva:each correct answer in the gunlet is worth $100 each $100 between charging, and blocking is worth 1 second for a greater chance at $25,000 in cash.

  • This a very underrated and fun show! This show being the 1st time Rod and Tom teamed up. They teamed up briefly in 1986 when Johnny O passed away while announcing the 1985-86 syndie version of TPiR.

  • The opening sequence was animated, as you know.

  • Yes. fortunaly it was the producers of the show to use the animated opening seqence.

  • Jay Wolpert, Burt Sugarman and company...they were, indeed, the producers of this game show.

  • oh how can u say such a horrible thing like that!!!

  • Oh, I wish you hadn't said that. That was NOT true! Why say such a thing?

  • [Carnac] May the spirit of Randy Amasia leave a surprise in your bowl of Cheerios.

  • No accounting for taste... :-/

  • my god, you must be a jerk. He just was really excited (you do know $25,000 back then was a lot of money to win from a game show?)

  • Don't destroy the integrity of the show by putting your redundant comments...but thanks for the clips.

  • The I.R.S. was in the back after Randy's win.

  • I.R.S stands for Internal Revenue Service. (They pay your taxes.)

  • This was a great show. A shame Randy never got to have his big win on tape.

  • We know he won the twenty-five thousand in cash (Just like the unaired pilot of fun house)however who else won the $25,000

  • i agree. his big win was found on tape finally after Randy advertized it on his website for a long time. Unfortuantally they couldn't find a VCR in time just b4 his death. Sad story, but his memory and big episode lives on, on youtube!

  • IIRC, the tape arrived at Randy's house (or his mom's house) a few hours after he died.
