They've changed the accents for this version of pete and dud. They seem a lil more normal. prefer the other ones. pete and dud at the pub and art gallery much better.
I assume that everyone else noticed that the funniest part of this whole sketch was the was it was all held together by the underlying theme, which was that Pete was treating Dud as a slave, a housewife. But, as perhaps most women do, he just accepted it.
Really brilliant! One of the funniest sketches I have ever seen.
a lady is peppered from head to foot with erogenous zones! I'm writing that line down for my benefit, so I can remember it and quote it at inappropriate moments. Ooh, that were proper comedy, not like what you get on the telly nowadays. Blooming marvellous
Dudley seems to be a bit fed up with Pete in this sketch. Their relationship was very complex and at times strained. Dud is giving up on the accent and seems bored.
Peter Cook had to wait till 'Why Bother' with Chris Morris 20 years later till he found anyone he had anything like the same connection with like he had with Dudley Moore.
I was gonna post "That was Dud sans moustache not peter", then i thought i'll watch the rest of it incase peter takes off his moustache, i did and saved myself the embarrasment of a inapt comment....but anyway pete with or without 'stache is a genius.
there is an older version of this sketch which is much funnier and better executed but for some reasons it was removed from youtube

This sketch is a little slack compared to Cook and Moores finest.

Peter Cook is the greatest comedian in history, although this sketch isn't the best by any stretch, thanks for putting it up

What is the "Oh, look, I've got Martin Peters up the spout" reference, after he looks into the stinking teapot?
CriticalListener 2 years ago
Martin Peters is a famous English footballer who played for West Ham in the late '60s.

It's a shame that Dudley Moore died such a terribly painful death. These two together were truly brilliant.

I love it when when Pete has ad-libbed a line and Dud really wants to crack up.
He must have felt really emasculated working with the comic powerhouse that was Peter Cook.
simonjenkin 3 years ago
oh, please. If Cook didn't have Moore, and vise versa, you wouldn't even be watching these videos.

"Why Bother" is brilliant. The bit about Sir Arthur being in prison as a child is pure genius.

@keyofruss You're right there! dudley moore is just as much of a genius as peter cook... a brilliant talented gifted musician .........and comedian..
theyre both the GREATEST!

In that case, I suspect you're quite right: I look about 20 years older after whenever I listen to Derek & Clive.

Anyone else blame these two for laugh lines? LOL.
ColumboGurl 4 years ago
It was filmed in front of an audience. That's actual laughter.
Also, the laugh track is an American invention (and a terrible one at that).

That whole mustache thing was ad-libbed, I suppose? If so, they did a good job playing it off.
