  • thx

  • Your videos are great and make socks so easy. Just a little feedback....you tend to move your needles really fast which can make it difficult to see. You need to move slower and hold things still longer so it is easier for viewers to watch!

  • You are very detailed and easy to follow, but sadly, I'm using you as a reference for a non-class pattern that I found online, which requires 5 double pointed needles..Toddler socks and all. Thank you, you are a great teacher.

  • @verypinkknits Or can you what size you most comfortable with?

  • @ verypinkknits Also, do you recommend a mandatory needle size, when knitting socks?

  • @mishad1229 Different patterns call for different needle sizes. In this pattern, we use bigger needles (size 5 US) and thicker yarn than most sock patterns so that you can really see what you're doing as you learn the techniques. When I knit socks with sock yarn (very thin), I usually use size 1 US.

  • THANK YOU made the first one, made a few mistakes but I know where, so ready for the second one, never tried to do socks before because I THOUGHT it is heavy;) BUT THANK YOU, you made simple what my grandma tried so hard to teach me,I am soo happy. Merry Christmas!

  • @COUNTRYLIVINGNORSK You're welcome! Thank you for the nice comment!

  • TY for the video. I purchased the pattern and have now made two pairs of socks. Can you tell me how to adjust this pattern to make socks for men. I'd like to make a pair for my husband and son. They both like ankle socks and they like my socks.

  • @laace2003 and @deviousdiablesse - this tutorial is meant as a lesson to give you the skills you need to knit socks, and altering a sock pattern isn't a quick thing. I encourage both of you to look for sock patterns in the sizes you want for men and boys. There are tons of free ones out there, that use all different needle sizes and yarn weights. If you need a starting point for finding these patterns, I encourage you to go to the Ravelry website. It's free, and awesome.

  • I just finished my 1st sock with size 7 or 8 needles and im starting my 2nd one. I was thinking of making a pair for my son who is 6 how do I downsize the pattern for his size feet ??

  • why my socks have a gap (like hole) between the starting of the round and the last stitch? how to overcome it?

  • @174anim Are you using double-pointed needles? If so, make sure your tension is even when you go from one needle to the next. Pulling too hard or not pulling hard enough can leave holes. It takes practice, but you'll get it. :) Also, washing (blocking) your socks once you finish knitting them will help clear up small gaps.

  • @verypinkknits thx! i'll do a lot of practice.. :)

  • This is great thank you! I just started knitting socks, much to my son's amusement, and couldn't understand how to do it from the book I had. I couldn't work out why my socks weren't knitting in rounds and why it just looked like ordinary knitting but spread on three needles. The book was recommended but didn't go into enough detail so thank for showing me how. I have several friends who have just started and I will recommend this channel to them if they get stuck. :D

  • please help us whith greece subtitles, thanks you

  • @IreneMaragou Greek is one of the many languages available. All of my videos are carefully transcribed, so every language should be a good translation.

  • @verypinkknits The truth is that the greek subtitles aren't that great translated, but you get an 'excellent' for the effort. We get the general idea.I actually don't use them,so no worries.By the way, you're an excellent knitter!I love your videos and I thank you for this opportunity to learn even more regarding kniiting!

  • @IreneMaragou PLEASE SAY WHAT SIZE NEEDLES

  • You kind of need to slow down a bit...I'm new at all this and I could barely keep up with how fast your hands were going. Great tutorial otherwise

  • can you help me?, i want to do gloves for my family but i don´t want to do fingerless gloves, where can i find a tutorial for gloves that have a thumb?:S ( if you understand what i mean) sorry for my bad english:/ thanks for the great tutorial by the way:D

  • @selmatheking1 Yes - I can help you, and you have great timing! I'm releasing a new video tutorial and pattern called "Learn to Knit Gloves" in the next couple of days! Watch for it before the end of the week!

  • @verypinkknits thank you so much!:D

  • after i finish my first round, u know how u start with knit 2 and when ur done u end with purl 2? well when i finish my first round the next stitch is in purl? do i continue or did i do something wrong? is the second round first stitch suppose to be purl first then knit? plz help :(

  • @KimmieHD I'm afraid you've messed up somewhere...the first two stitches of every round of the cuff are Knit 2. Are you working from the written pattern? If not, please understand that these videos are meant to accompany the written pattern, which spells out the details. The link to purchase and instantly download the pattern is just below the video in the description.

  • @verypinkknits im sorry for bothering u again but im still confused :( i tried it over and over again 6 times and its still the same. my knit stitch turns into a purl stitch on the second round

and purl stitch turns into knit stitch im confused as to how u can get a knit stitch from a knit stitch in the second round. i checked it and nothing is twisted. when i knit a scarf, i would knit 2 purl 2 to get the pattern and everytime i come to the end i turn it over to get the knit stitch again

  • @KimmieHD I have to ask you again - are you working from the written pattern? Because not using those instructions for your cast-on number will cause you problems.

Also, you may want to watch my video called "Knitting Help - Knitting Inside-Out on DPNs" (sorry can't give a link here). You may be flipping your work inside out without realizing it, which could be messing you up.

  • @verypinkknits oh wow i found my mistake and sorry i didnt realize u asked me that thanks for helping :) your video was really helpful other video didnt explain it as well as u did, my mistake was that i knitted and purl wrong >.< thats why it didnt start with knit thanks again :) im moving on to your second video with the heel flap

  • Where can I download the pattern

  • @normaoz9 I can't post a link here in the comments, but the link to buy and download the pattern is just below the video in the description.

  • Two things...I'm hearing impaired, and although I have CC on, it's usually bad, at best. This is the first YouTube video that has PERFECT CC. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Secondly, I do a long-tail CO, but it is different from the way you are doing it, but you are going so fast, there's no way to see what you are doing, and a newbie is going to freak, trying to figure it out. Thanks!

  • @bikrgran Great! I'm glad you're making use of the CC - I transcribe all my videos by hand (I type them all out) so that the CC is accurate.

I have a video for the long-tail cast-on that is meant to demonstrate it better than I do here. Just go to my channel page and search for "Knitting Help - Long-Tail Cast-On".

  • Wow this video was really helpful! Thank you so much. Ii cannot wait to see what other videos you have posted!

  • When you're joining the yarn to knit the cuff, why don't you put the needle into the stitch on the back needle as well, then knit a stitch? It looks like you're just wrapping the yarn around to create a loop. I've been knitting socks for a couple years, but always have problems joining, which, to me, is the hardest part. I do enjoy your video series - keep up the good work.

  • @Sewnknit After trying every way under the sun of joining knitting in the round, I have found this is my favorite way to do it. It's simple, the tension is easily controlled, and you can smooth out the jog when you weave in the end. When you say "wrapping around to create a loop", I'm actually just creating the first stitch, which joins it in the round at the same time.

  • This video is done so well. Kudos to the team that helped with execution because it is A+ professional. Great job.

  • @andrew041488 Thank you! I'll pass this note on. All of the production work is done by Yawp Media, linked on my channel page. (Wish I could link here.)

  • Thank you soooooo much for taking the time to make these sock videos to go along with your pattern! I have successfully completed my first pair of socks! One question though: how would you alter the pattern to accommodate wide feet? I'd like to knick a pair for my friend who wears shoe size 6-1/2 EEE

  • @janericciardi Now that you've finished knitting a pair of socks using this tutorial, you have the skills you need to knit almost any cuff-down sock pattern. I suggest you look online for a pattern specifically designed for wider feet. You can do it now! :)

  • yeah i dont get this

  • Hi. I just wanted to say "Thank You!". I've been wanting to learn how to knit socks for a long time! I've got my first one done, half way finished with my second one! You're video's are fantastic! I'll be knitting many more socks in the future!

  • love your videos also but can you please tell me what size double pointed needles you are using?

  • @watsuannie In this pattern we are using US size 5 double-pointed needles. If you want to follow along with this sock pattern, all of the tools and materials you need are listed within the pattern itself.

  • You are an amazing teacher ! With your videos sock knitting is so simple. I just finished my firs sock for my baby girl and it turned out great. Thank you very much.

  • can you please do a tutorial to make a dress please?? x

  • @HussmuZch Yes - in this pattern, I have you arrange the stitches so that you start each needle with K2, and end each needle with P2. That way you always know you're on track.

  • Thank you for your informational videos. I am a complete newbie, but would like to try these socks for my college daughter who freezes in her dorm room. I'm crossing my fingers...

  • I love your pattern with video links....could never have figured this sock knitting out w/o your great lessons. I'd like to go on to knit a pair for my husband's large foot. How do I do that? Do you have a large men's pattern?

  • @Patchables Good job on the socks! Now that you've knit a pair with this pattern, you have the skills you need to move on to other patterns...especially the kind that use thin sock yarn and smaller needles. I encourage you to look at patterns for men's socks. This lesson is really created to give you the skills you need so that you can move on to other patterns. Now that you've got it, you can choose any cuff-down pattern!

  • Very nice video. Love the aerial shots. Will probably buy the pattern and try, as I've been wanting to do socks for a while but didn't feel confident about just going off a pattern. Wanted to ask though, can the pattern be used for more than just instructional heavy-weighted socks? For example, could I modify the needle and yard weight to utilize the pattern/design for shoe socks? And if so, could you recommend a gauge or needle and thread weight?

  • @saprater25 My hope for this sock tutorial is that you'll knit the pattern that we use here, then you'll have the skills to pick from the thousands of cuff-down patterns out there, confident that you have the skills to work it. I don't recommend altering this pattern once you've knit it. I recommend choosing a pattern written to use sock yarn and tiny needles. You can do it! :)

  • I forgot, I have 2 skeins of sock yarn that I never used, will that work as good as the Wool or is it to thin?

  • @suelinthegin Sock-weight yarn is much thinner than worsted weight, and won't give you the same results.

  • @suelinthegin The sock weight yarn will give you a sock that fits inside of shoes, and its actually what I prefer. I wouldn't use this pattern though, its written for much heavier yarn.

  • I was wondering if i could use Red Heart 4 ply, worsted weight to make these socks? Or will it through the gauge off. Don't have any wool yarn on hand right now. I'm not that good at making a 4 inch swatch to check gauge. I crochet alot but have only made a scarf and a dickie doing knitting.

  • @suelinthegin You can use any worsted-weight yarn, but you'll probably get the best results with wool. Wool is easy to work with and makes the most wearable socks. It's also very forgiving, and blocks out to make your stitches look very tidy and even.

  • where do i purchase the sock pattern?

  • @suelinthegin My website was having difficulty, but seems to be fine again now. The pattern can be purchased here: verypink.com/videos/knitting-lessons/learn-to-knit-socks/

  • I'm so happy to see someone who throws the yarn all the books I've read usually stress using the other hand. I think that's English knitting, and throwing the yarn is Continental.

  • Ha! I finally understood how to join in the first row. For that - thanks!

If I may make a suggestion for further videos? Make sure to display critical movements/steps slowly, clearly and maybe even repeatedly. That would prevent people from having to scroll(?) back to a certain time to watch a certain step again. Like joining in the first round.

    Well done =)

  • @DLMTheFourth Hi - thanks for the comment and the kind words. Actually, we've made it so these videos are short, with the idea that people can scroll back over any parts they need to see again. We decided this was preferable to really long videos where we repeat things people might not need to see more than once.

  • @verypinkknits Okay, that I can understand. I've seen a video about some technic where at the beginning of the video a sentence was shown, saying that there will be repeatings of the crucial step at the end of the video, so that people don't have to scroll back over and over again.

But that would only work if you'd just explain a single step per video. May I ask what these strange round buttons on the red cloth doll are? They look like speedometers =)

  • @DLMTheFourth Speedomters! Haha! The dials on my dressmaker's dummy are sizing dials. I can make her measurements bigger or smaller, as needed.

  • @DLMTheFourth Hi, I would like to purchase the sock pattern, but can't get into your site to do it.

    thanks

  • $8.00 for the pattern-little greedy?

  • @cdmaur Sorry you think so...creating the videos to go with the pattern takes a ton of time and effort. So far people have been happy to pay the 8 bucks for the careful guidance and email support.

  • @cdmaur Sorry you think so...creating the videos to go with the pattern takes a ton of time and effort. So far people have been happy to pay the 8 bucks for the careful guidance and email support.

  • @cdmaur 8 dollars is nothing, you are learning a new skill that basically will allow you to be able to knit other sock patterns, it is all laid out for you step by step . Do you know how much a sock class is at your lys? A lot more than 8 bucks, thats for sure.

  • thank you so much... What a fab set of videos........cant wait to start my first socks.....

  • how much yarn do you need

  • @xCuttie You'll need about 150 yards of worsted-weight yarn. More or less, depending on the size of your foot. They really don't take much yarn.

  • @verypinkknits well is that for i sock or for both socks ?

  • @xCuttie that amount is for a full pair of socks.

  • Hi

What foot or shoe sizes does your pattern go up too?

    Does it fit larger feet?

    Thanks!

  • It is written to fit any women's size in an average width, but can easily be altered to fit a wider woman's or man's foot by going up a needle size or two.

  • Hi Staci I am so glad that you are doing this I have been looking for an easy solution for Socks and Thank you Staci I just purchased this pattern Cannot wait to get started kudos

  • How can I purchuse this written pattern?

  • Having trouble replying...

  • My website is verypink...I'm unable to post a direct link to the sock pattern, but you can go to Designs and Free Patterns and the sock pattern is right on top.

  • excellent video! Thank you!

  • God please make a vid on how to make a sweater!!

  • This video was excellent. I didn't even know how to knit before I watched it and now I'm knitting socks! Hint: she is selling the pattern for $8US it's not free, you will need it to knit these. I wish I had known it wasn't free before I started.

  • very helpful! i'm knitting socks on 4 dpns for the first time and your explanation of how to use the 4 needles was very helpful!
