For a game genre that tries to immerse players horror games are really shit at making interfaces that don't completely break you out of the experience. They could have put the menus on a scrap of paper but no, they have to do it in neon-blue.

hmm... well, this is the only part i've seen so far but, is the menu like that all the time, or does it change later in the game? as it is, it seems like its supposed to look like the settings menu on a tv - its just like the menu both my TVs have when you pull it up to change the brightness settings or whatever. And its supposed to be like you're watching a VHS on a TV at that stage, so that would make sense.

I agree totally with what you're saying, but I believe these particular menus are meant to imitate the kind of menus you'd see while using a digital video camera, simple and a hideous neon blue. That's why each time one of the menus pop up, the video recording pauses as if you're fiddling with options on your camera.
