  • hey im only here cuz my names zarin. whats this movie about?

  • Somebody remember the end of this video? I don't... I need this information for an article..

  • the problem of iran is a probleme of behaviours and mentality.

But don't think that the women are "innocent", "good", and that Iranian men are "monsters". Women in Iran are not just poor victims, they have to change their mentality too : example : in Iran, women think that make up and sexy clothes = LIBERTY.

Liberty is a very large thing. But Iranian people do not want to change : they vote for Moussavi who was prime minister during iran-irak war! they vote for a murderer! iranian R stupid

  • This is part of Women without Men

  • i just know that she is amazing and i would love to see more of her works.if anyone knows how please add a comment here.mahnaazz jaan its not that iranians love to go to west and live for a while its the era that we have been left behind without wanting it.we were learning how to walk on modernist world and then we were pushed back, therefore we have to run to pass modernism and post modernism and its not easy where and when they stop you.

  • stupid feminists who have taken away the all of familly values and taste of life for every one.

the children with no dads are one result of this

  • RoseProphecy RoseProphecy After decades of stonning & the world being dead spirited & walking dead let alone Iran, Sheereen Neshat & the like of her should know that Iranian or the world youth do not wake up all of a sudden with such an awakened and new patterns of thaught and being! This has never and will never happen!

  • Once in a thousand years one awkened soul rises and brings new knowledge as I did and went on the cross for it guiding leaders 15 years to come to a place where evolutionary change is happening!

  • I am Rose Parvin & I wrote 9 books in one year in 1994 pioneering Psychology of Prevention Health & Excellence & I introduced Woman Power Universal Laws of Human Rights & Global Freedom & Democracy & my Global Peace Program of Dialogue thruogh film & music poetry & all art & science dimension that

  • In fact Neshat's film is inspired by my day and night sitting in front of my radio & going on air to awaken the dead and burried Iranians who were oppressed even here in America let alone in Iran that they were stonned & banned of all activity let alone making film!

  • I created a Rebirth on earth and Iran and America and these people I rose to awaken are denying me because Massood Khojasteh wants themto deny me so that he can claim my identity with his mistress Tanaz Fatahi in 670amKIRN who have lied to the people of Iran for 10 years about me and have blocked their destiny of freedom and democracy giving dictatorship power!

  • I have had from my $30,000/month and centers and homes and my life of balance and excellence is sacrifised for a bunch of shallow & superficial want to bees who think they have a right to censor and silence and scientitst messiah on their way to fame!

  • In one way Neshat is a RoseLeaf that brings me joy in anothe way that I am denied and have not even been invited and lost all and tortured slandered and isolated from my poeople in the most brutal ways of Khojasteh's Toxic Humor I feel betrayed!

  • Wow!!! so much hate on those comments.... we should be talking about the film. Right???

  • that's not art. that's cheap cinema of uncle sam...american regime is well known for substituting for their defeats by victories fabricated in holywod *lol*

  • This and all other videos are showing in Stockholm right now, until January.

I had no idea they were from 2005, I thought it was all new.

This "Zarin" part is around 18 mins if I remember correctly. And it was the one who stayed with me the most. What a fate for that young girl. I liked her, she seemed innocent but that didn't matter. The demons came after her anyway.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't see the hatred in this film.

Could you explain to me the symbols of hatred? I thought it was about misunderstanding.

  • @WAQWAQSAHAB

That's exactly what folks don't realize. Eye-for-an-eye is alive and well.

  • You are talking about another Shirin Neshat, not the artist. Her father is not General Ali Neshat. Don't write stupid stuff if you have no idea what you are talking about!

  • @WAQWAQSAHAB

I just wanted to let you know, that you're a misinformed FOOL. Before you go spewing hatred about someone, get your facts straight. THIS Shirin Neshat has absolutely no relation to General Ali Neshat. You are talking about a completely different Shirin Neshat, which could have been determined with a simple google search. But of course, that would be too easy for an ignorant pig like you.

  • We Iranians are NOT the bad guys, We Iranians have made some horrible choices in choosing our policy makers, and we are paying off for it. And you hating westeners is not shared by other Iranians AT ALL. Most Iranians in Iran especially LOVE west and love to go there and live for a while, so don't go around bullshit.

  • @maahnaazz with all due respect where is your comment coming from? I know that one american cannot speak for the whole of the usa but what is this bullshit you speak of? sounds to me that your're just talking... just like me I guess... ahhh welll not trying to poke at anyone or prove a point or start a famed youtube arguement i am just curious...

  • Where can I get this movie?

  • I hope I could see more work from her in the networld because I live very far from the festivals she takes place.

Her message is clear and we all have to admit that we close our eyes.

YOU CANT PRETEND ANYMORE....IT'S TRULY SHAMEFUL

  • I think Neshat's recent work is a bit stale, overly theatrical and didactic. She needs to move on from this message of voiceless Islamic Woman.Constantly "othering" and exoticising yourself only caters to the western pallet. We get the message Neshat!

  • It's not enough, she has to insist on the rights of the woman in islamic coutnry because thus far the woman is still undermimed in the muslim society

  • She is an artist and her work has become samey. There are other ways of giving this message, as many other Muslim female artists are doing. She is boring!

  • hi....i think everyone has his own way of expressing himself. she has this ability and is using it in a way. to say the truth i don't find it quite interesting but we should except each other's way of expressing oneself and opinion :)

  • eslam ye dige gohi hast ke harchi bishtar beham bezani, bishtar boush dar miad.. narahati nadare.. vagheiyate

Zendebad azadiye bayan, Va khanoume Neshate aziz

  • My friend Nilufer actually did the Persian to Turkish translation when Zarin was shown @ the IF film festival in Istanbul in February, but she really wanted to meet Shirin Neshat, who could not attend.I guess it was really well received in Istanbul. Hopefully, more of her films will be shown around the world.

  • she is a great artist. I like her monumental film opus "Women without Men".It consists of five videl installations: Mahdokht, Zarin, Munis, Faezeh and Farokh Legha, with altogether seven projections to show in five separately constructed spaces.

  • Does any one know wher i can watch Shirin Neshats Films on the internet?

  • Well, I think you can't watch her videos on the internet 'cause their are works, so...

  • is this the film with the bath house scene??? i gotta see it!

  • could someone plz tell me wats goin on? likei dont the story and how's it is related to "tooba" i dont get it...

    PLZZ AND THANK YOU

  • Yeah me 2 :S?

  • See Shirin Neshat present Live on November 8 at ASU Art Museum in Tempe, Arizona!

  • no worries. shirin neshat workes on a full lenght movie - "summer 1953". I guess it will be in some movie theatres next year. and "zarin" will be part of it.

it's not so easy to put art videos on dvd, because it's ment to be seen on a special screen. I would love to have them on dvd too, but it wouldn't be the same.

  • Also, how disturbing if there were 5 copies of _Solaris_ in the world, all owned by the rich? No _ Solaris _ to rent or own, and we could only see it if it was shown in a gallery or museum.

Purchasing rights could be rewritten so Neshat's films could be sold on DVDs. More money for her, great films for you, me, and the world, but a slightly less prestigious object for the art collector.

It's bullshit. And it sucks to see anything on DVD vs. projected, but it's still better than nothing.

  • There are some cases where that is true, but most of the time it's a lie of the art world.

You definitely can't see most of Christian Marclay's or Doug Aitken's work on a TV, but Neshat's work is projected on a screen no different from that in any movie theater, as is the vast majority of video artists'.

There is NO artistic reason (but plenty of financial reasons) that an art video deserves a more privileged status than a Godard, Hitchcock, or Tarkovsky movie.

  • i agree, i am a big fan i saw her film passage, in paris with my girl friend when we went to the musee d'art moderne. It was amazing and i've been trying to see a copy of it ever since, it seems she makes alot but doesn't really spread it around which is annoying as i would buy it. Oh well i guess i will miss out on her brilliance, but well this look awesome do its cool!

  • Thank you so much for putting this up

  • love it. can you please post turbulence by neshat- incredible! would require two postings though (and technically two monitors to watch)

  • If it's ever playing in a place where I can film it, I will. And I'll try filming two monitors at once.

  • it would be incredible to see "turbulent" again. i saw it in '99, & it's haunted me ever since. i agree wholeheartedly with your comments on the art world & video installations. it's infuriating, but if there was only one video piece that i could see again, it would be "turbulent".

  • thanks for putting it online, I wish there was more of here work online..

  • Yeah, so do I. I hate the way the art world hadles video. Can you imagine if there was only five copies of "Vertigo," and they were all owned by rich collectors? Yet that's the world we live in, except the rich own the only copies of "Zarin" and "Cremaster." Netflix isn't good enough for the art world.

  • i have some additional clips from the movie (saw an installment of it in nyc in 2005). i'll try to post them soon.

  • awwh...wish there was more. but thanks for sharing. =]

  • thanks for putting this on line... I'm a fan of Shirin Neshat, especially her videos and films.
