That's why I got a 2001 F250 SD, which is the platform the Excursions are based on. And yeah, with turbo swaps and everything, those Excursions can be pretty quick.

I may be crazy, but it looks like either the trailer came off the ball or the hitch broke, and the front of the trailer was swinging on the safety chains. I've had a trailer uncouple from a pindle hitch at highway speed. It looked just like that, except for the crash.

Yeah, when you trailer starts to fishtail, which could be caused by something like using the wrong sized hitch ball, you give it gas to straighten out and once you do, you slow down and pull off to the side to check your rig.

What usually causes this is when the trailer is loaded to heavily in the rear. I pulled a horse trailer that was loaded too heavy in the rear, and if I went over 60 it would start swaying like that. Using a sway bar can help aviod that. The best thing to do is apply the trailer brakes, and do not overcorrect in steering.

What caused the trailer to begin swaying in the first place? Did the guy slam on his brakes (stupid) or something too quick? From a physics standpoint, if he had stomped on the accelerator when it first started swaying, the trailer would have straightened out. Braking would do the opposite; make it worse.

The driver of the Excusrsion didnt blame anybody, the owner of the Porsche Carrera GT (silver car in front) made up the rumour a silver LP caused the accident, to protect himself. Not true at all, there is no Silver LP anywhere near the accident.

Could be, the footage does start a bit late. But a properly loaded trailer can be jerked around pretty bad and still naturally fall back in behind you. I've experienced and have seen a lot of trailer sway, and that is just the impression I got from the vid.

Or maybe the shock of having 6 or 7 sportscars flying by you at 100 mph can be a bit startling, especially if one of those is weaving in lanes in front of you. Look at the video again, Fred was to the right of the CGT when it started to go out of control. I see no cars in the way of the Excursion during the time of the accident. Fred wouldn't do that. The driver of the Excursion probably glanced over at the exotics passing him, and didn't realize that the highway was turning right. He corrected, and then over corrected, which made that trailer unstable, and caused it to go out of control.

In can start from something as simple as braking. Could also be wind, swerving speeding, weight balance, etc. Usually a wreck is driver error. Since most people have never been through this kind of wild ride it's hard to do the right thing. Gradually slow down, do not try to prevent the car from whipping, just steady the steering wheel, and if you have trailer brakes use them first.
