Isn't it funny that the trailer says, "The Storm is Coming" and Anne Hathaway ends up getting the role as Catwoman where she says the same thing to Bruce.
I really thought that Anne Hathaway was going to be stuck in trashy teen films forever...but this movie has had her completely prove me wrong, and prove what a talent she is.
This is the best film I've seen in ages. Sincere and very touching, but gritty at the same time. Brilliantly shot too, i love handheld stuff when it's done right.

This movie was beautifully raw. It was quite slow moving at first, but towards the end is where it almost becomes hard to watch. All the characters begin to crash in to each other in one tragic clash. The relationship between Kim and her mother was tragic.
Does anyone know why the wedding was Indian? I thought maybe the husband lived in India or something, but he's American...I wasn't really following his story. It would be really stupid and disrespectful if these white people just decided to have a "fun" little theme to their wedding.
I liked that the movie showed the raw relationships in families and I like that not everything was resolved at the end, but I still felt like some parts came out of nowhere.

I agree with ashbobizzle! Rachel getting married is one of THE WORST movies ever made!!! Movie lacks any story or substance or even an ending! This being nominated to Oscars just shows how corrupt the Academy is!! I would almost say it is illegal for the producers to charge the people and make them watch a bad movie like this!

Worst movie I've ever seen. Anne Hathaway's character was the only likeable one of the entire eccentric bunch. In fact, it's not hard to understand why she'd end up in rehab in the first place. If that was my family, I'd be on drugs, too. I was shocked when I found out it was less than 2 hours long... could have sworn I sat there watching it drag on and on for days.
The goal of this movie was not to create "likable" characters—it was to create real, feeling characters. And if this was the worst movie you've "ever seen" I seriously fear for your movie taste.

I absolutely adore Bill Irwin's character. The dish washing scene, when he saw Ethan's plate and had to leave the room, broke my heart. And later when he started sobbing on the couch- major tear fest.

Wow. I just watched this movie and... I HATED the cinematography. NO MORE HAND HELD CAMERAS. It made me feel I was watching some high school film project. It didn't make it feel more real, just annoying. It didn't capture the moment well.
The acting on the other hand by the cast, was FANTASTIC. Hathaway totally deserved the nomination for best actress. :D
This isn't really like any of Hathaway's other movies though. XD She's amazing in it but she isn't a happy character at all. If anything, you're supposed to feel disappointed, maybe even annoyed at her.
The movie is shot using hand held cameras to seem like a family video so it feels more real. If you can handle random shakiness and a dysfunctional family, then go for it. The movie is good. Though, at times, very sad.

The cinematography makes it much more raw and easier to connect. If it were just a clean cut design, it wouldn't have the same effect. This type of edgier, darker cinematography was what the film crew desired.
I guess it's what they wanted. But they did not find the balance between being innovative and pleasing the audience. After all it is an art of entertainment and the film failed to entertain me.

Just saw it. A truly exceptional film - rich, authentic, complex, engrossing. Weakest performance was Anne Hathaway, actually -- she was outclassed in the critical scene (telling the music to stop on the couches). The father, the sister are exceptional. It's not for everyone -- it's smart and tough, and hard and resilient. And most people can't get that. But if you do, you'll value this movie tremendously. L'Chaim!

As a family counselor I thought this movie was painfully true to life and could not have done a better job of making us feel like we were a part of this family and this story! I think this is a great film that deserves recognition. The scenes which are criticized like the wedding speeches helped us understand the characters and made us feel like we were really there!

I don't like Anne Hathaway (star of cute Hollywood formulaic Rom-Coms), but she was great and certainly deserves some sort acknowledgment... she can act. Who knew? But it's the ensemble work by entire cast that stands out. Some of you hated the film because of the inclusion of irrelevant scenes and long lingering shots of wedding guests celebrating. Guess what? Life's full of scenes just like these...

If you're thinking of watching this movie, don't. I like Hathaway, but she wasn't very convincing - overacting a bit. There were some good performances, but the movie mostly dragged on. Yes that is the technical definition of retardation but certain words carry a certain connotation that is negative. The word bitch, for example, means "female dog" but over time the word evolved into something else and people rarely use it as its original definition. And considering your statements I pretty sure you meant it in the negative sense.

Wow. I just watched this movie and... I HATED the cinematography. NO MORE HAND HELD CAMERAS. It made me feel I was watching some high school film project. It didn't make it feel more real, just annoying. It didn't capture the moment well.
The acting on the other hand by the cast, was FANTASTIC. Hathaway totally deserved the nomination for best actress. :D

This isn't really like any of Hathaway's other movies though. XD She's amazing in it but she isn't a happy character at all. If anything, you're supposed to feel disappointed, maybe even annoyed at her.
The movie is shot using hand held cameras to seem like a family video so it feels more real. If you can handle random shakiness and a dysfunctional family, then go for it. The movie is good. Though, at times, very sad.

Hi there...well from the preview i can see that its more of a drama flick as opposed to her usual films.but thats alright.hehe.I usually like to watch a good drama movie..even those with tragic endings! I only hope the story line is great,thats all^_^

The cinematography makes it much more raw and easier to connect. If it were just a clean cut design, it wouldn't have the same effect. This type of edgier, darker cinematography was what the film crew desired.

mmmm not to sure looks cheap......actors are a little over the top but what family is not....my sweet 16? looks like some of that..the best movie with the bet cast and im serious was (little miss sunshine) that was real, not over the top like this..Little miss sunshine had a great cast...that young girl in this movie seems over the top and typical boring.

Just saw it. A truly exceptional film - rich, authentic, complex, engrossing. Weakest performance was Anne Hathaway, actually -- she was outclassed in the critical scene (telling the music to stop on the couches). The father, the sister are exceptional. It's not for everyone -- it's smart and tough, and hard and resilient. And most people can't get that. But if you do, you'll value this movie tremendously. L'Chaim!

I hope you people are joking with the whole "life is full of irrelevant scenes" crap, life ain't no movie, a movie shouldn't attempt realism through overlong scenes with a bunch of characters that are not even introduced at any point in the film, as that other user said, what the hell do you expect from films if you thought the home video approach and 30 minutes of excess footage that this film has is in any way an asset? Gimme a break.

As a family counselor I thought this movie was painfully true to life and could not have done a better job of making us feel like we were a part of this family and this story! I think this is a great film that deserves recognition. The scenes which are criticized like the wedding speeches helped us understand the characters and made us feel like we were really there!

I rarely post any Youtube comments, but thought I should come out in support of this film. I don't like Anne Hathaway (star of cute Hollywood formulaic Rom-Coms), but she was great and certainly deserves some sort acknowledgment... she can act. Who knew? But it's the ensemble work by entire cast that stands out. Some of you hated the film because of the inclusion of irrelevant scenes and long lingering shots of wedding guests celebrating. Guess what? Life's full of scenes just like these...

The movie would be amazing if you:
A) Remove the dishwashing scene
B) Don't show ALL the speeches at the rehearsal dinner., (Father's, Kieran's, Emma's and Kym's would've been enough)
C) Don't show all the idiots at the wedding party dancing for 15 MINUTES!
Jenny Lumet, you seriously need some screenwriting courses, cause I don't even know how someone can write so many irrelevant scenes in just one movie, it's not like Benjamin Button that you know it drags on but at least is not a bore.

Just finished watching this movie. It was horrible. Why did I continue watching it? Well, when I watch a movie I always finish it even if it's painful to watch, that way I know for sure it sucked. If you're thinking of watching this movie, don't. I like Hathaway, but she wasn't very convincing - overacting a bit. There were some good performances, but the movie mostly dragged on. This trailer doesn't really show what kind of movie it was. I hate when trailers give you the wrong impression!

it's Rogue Wave. From STUBBS THE ZOMBIE which was a video game released a couple of years back. there's a soundtrack with really good bands on it.
