  • I remember seeing both Split Enz and Paul Kelly and the Dots do this song on the one night at Bombay Rock. Now I know why I feel like i am 56!

  • i came up with a theory that involves the book of genesis (fig leaves) buddha (sitting under the bodhi fig tree) jesus (many sayings about figs) ross horne's book (new health revolution) and science (figs are the most important source of food for fruit eating rainforest animals). i then experimented on the figs by eating mainly dried figs (same brand ) for over 6 years now and found cycles which i related to the numbers in psgs 11/12 of the book of revelations. this theory has gone everywhere.

  • so far i have had eliminations at days 504, 840, 1176, 1512, 1848, 2184, and expect my 7th at day 2520. today is day 2342. i have definitely found something. i am not lying. what i have discovered has gone around the world and many songs have been written about it....the foo fighters last 3 albums..."vertigo" by U2 (my first name is phil)...coldplay's last 2 albums. an elimination is a day when you experience strong flu-like symptoms and feel terrible. bad stuff is washed out of your body.

  • hallelujah!

  • This is from 1979, not 1977.

  • I can't find the title track to this record "Frenzy"

  • about isabella saw from albert park

  • Adelaide United!

  • Year 8 school dance is all I can ever think of when I hear this song. :)

  • Unbelievable this shit hot rock comes from 1977

  • luv this song and it still goes on...

  • love the piano solo!

  • One of New Zealand's best.

  • This band was so far ahead of its time. It was way back in 1980's nz, yet somehow they found an electric power source to run their guitars!

  • i luv these guys

  • nice, this is before new wave ;)

  • @kinmanyuen No, this is the start and epitome of New Wave.

  • Go Split Enz and the Finn brothers!!! wow!!

  • Brilliantly talented band ... !! One of the very best, 'out there', leading-edge groups of their day !! 'Nuff said !!

  • Does anyone know if these Split Enz music videos are available on DVD & where they could be purchased? I'd LOVE to have them.

  • but of course when MTV was good of course

  • I wish my Garage Jim I would have shit myself too thinking omg my garage is a part of a Split Enz video on MTV.

a time and age when artists made real kick ass music

  • the enz forever.

  • Dust storm in sydney anyone?

  • hmmm commies!!!! lol

  • my favourites north korean band of all time!!!

  • LOL, what a band!

  • I remember meeting Noel crombie when I was 13 and he freaked me out so much he carried on with the stage character when I met him.. the bugger laughed and laughed cause I wouldnt go near him..lol

  • Lol, Josbub :) That's a good story, mate. Reckon he would've freaked most kids out. Split Enz were awesome - so unique. Best band to come out of New Zealand ... ever! "Aww, shut! Um beached as".

  • I think the keyboards clearly demonstrates early new wave. Its sound is much more prominent than the guitars. This is definitely not punk.

  • Proof you don't have to play like shit to be "Punk."

  • Not disagreeing with your rating of the music there guy, and maybe now it could be rated as punk. But at the time in Oz I don't think anyone considered the Enz to be punk. At least when they first got attention they were considered to be a bit unclassifiable. just a comment from someone who was there then, not shittin' on you.

  • Funnily enough though, alot of people seem to place Talking Heads into some form of punk genre, i think there are quite a few similarities in the heads and the endz.

Not saying that either are nececarily punk... just just an observation however.

  • Jeez, I don't think I'd call Talking Heads punk. Maybe it's just the case that the industry/press needs to have everyone fit in a nice neat box. I often change the 'genre' on my music in iTunes when I think it's choice doesn't fit.

  • Interesting observation. Talking Heads understood music, so did Split Enz. Most of the other punk bands jumped on a bandwagon of "Screaming = music"

The Clash were the only ones who got the balance between anger and talent just right.

Now go listen to ' Six Months on a Leaky Boat' Brilliant.

  • the drummer is my favorite part. ;)

  • Best ending to a song ever.

  • LOL! So many memories with this song.. Awesome KIWI group..Tim Finn is a legend!!!!

  • iseerediseerediseered, iseerediseerediseered, i see reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed I SEE RED i see reeeeeeeeeeeheeeeeeeeeheeeeheeeheeeeeed

  • legend song (Y)

  • years ahead of their time .. they rock

  • Kind of that sound of the era, the pseudo-punk new-wave influence rebelling against the disco sound.. just music for the fun of it...

  • i love this song

  • LEGENDARY !!!

  • Kiwis Always!!!!!!!

  • ABSOLUTELY LOOOOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song always plays at Adelaide United games and my friend and I always bust out in our seats :-P

  • weird, and very different from crowded house or other finn projects

  • when i was a kid i hated splitz enz because of their weird look. took me a long time to appreciate them.

  • This song used to make my brother and I go complete nuts in that way that only kids can do (we must have been about 2 and 3 at the time)

we'd yell the lyrics at the top of our kungs whilst convulsing around the room...

    ahhhh memories

  • Ha ha ha. I think I See Red has had that impact on a lot of people. I heard Tim Finn talk about the day they shot this video - I think it was at the Opera House and the camera crew didn't show so they got someone to shoot it on Super 8.

  • He I agree it is complementing, so just chill out. The music is awesome please appreciate and where it comes from. we can all enjoy it without coming to blows.

  • love split ends there good

are split enz classed as emo??????

Shit no.. emos are gay.. 70's Split Enz are just.. odd

  • Great ending to a song.

  • i see red

i am doing at my school consent

  • please learn to spell

  • she has her period?? lol hahahah na its a good song

  • before you silly children comment about where and what learn about the song and what the band is all about. But NO you know everything that is why you still live with your parents

  • English must be your second language. No biggie. "I see red" refers to going to a wine bar, expecting to have a lovely Chardonnay, or even better, a Semillon Blanc, only to discover that they have nothing but Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for you -- I would definitely be seeing red.

  • She sees red she sees red she sees red...

  • very very corny song...very.

  • Split Enz pwns. Best New Zealand band ever. I love it.

  • They're great.. But I'd have to say Hello Sailor is the best NZ band ^_^

  • Mhm yeah, Hello Sailor is brill. What songs?

  • Tim Finn is such a spazz...

  • Split Enz do one of the greatest most energetic fast paced kick arse guitar riffed songs ever and what's the video? Tim Finn just bloody standing there hardly moving. I felt cheated when I finally got to see this video for the first time. I use to be smashing furniture and putting holes in walls dancing to this song and Tim barely moves. Interesting claim by goonsquid. I'm an XTC fan too but I haven't got the album with Red on it. Now I want to get it so I can compare.

  • Funny you mentioned destructive dancing, I also put a hole in a wall once dancing to an Enz song "Shark Attack".

  • Oh yeah I've gone spastic to Shark Attack too, and also Nobody Takes me Seriously and also Jamboree. Fantastic Stuff. It really is sad how boring music is nowadays. If I had a band I could've done something about it.

  • New Zealands answer to Skyhooks. Great songs and great look. Both are legends in their own countries.

  • By the way, the title track to this album opens the video clip and plays until the 14-second mark.

  • bambam hate school too?

  • what have u got against classic music u prick!!

  • This band is called the "Split Enz."

The lead singer is a guy.

This song is called "I see red."

  • I have always thought that this song is a bit too similar to the XTC sone "Red", recorded much the same time, for it to be a coincidence. I don't know for sure who plagiarised whom, but it seems to me that Andy Partridge has never had to copy the ideas of others, so I'd guess that the Enz have pinched the idea for this song from XTC. It makes sense as XTC were quite unknown at the time. As a piece of pop music I think I like the Enz song better although the lyrics are less intelligent.

  • I SEE RED!

  • kiwiz rok!

  • Go KIWIS

  • Nice little song!

  • Split Enz, or at least the Finn Bros, are from Te Awamutu south of Hamilton

  • FINNGASM

    GNNNNNNNNUGH

  • lmao nice

  • they are kiwi's after all ...

  • is that EraserHead singing ??

  • I don't know who eraserhead is but the singer is Tim Finn if that helps

  • David Lynchmovie, with massive hair

  • Man, when you put the song and the video together you've never witnessed anything creepier.

Whoever asked if they were emo needs to be shot. Unless it was a joke, which it better have been.

  • Love the piano break at 2:25 just fantastic keyboard all the way through, this song was huge both sides of the Tasman make no mistake, crowd the dance floor! Kiwis punching above their weight time and again as you'd expect, we need more of a New Zealand infuence in this world of ours. Best wishes from Oz.

  • split enz are absolutely fantastic!!!

  • are they from wellington?

  • They are actually fro Auckland, I believe :)

  • are split enz classed as emo??????

  • I would have to ask my daughter about that, but split enz are a bloody classic kiwi band otherwise,

  • Rock Music not emo

    just classic rock

    << 16 yo btw

  • That question is offensive to New Zealanders (and Split Enz fans) everywhere!!

  • i just saw someone refer to them as emo and thought it strange... sorry for insultin ya... i love them

  • U r retarded

  • DEVO MEETS THE TALKING HEADS.

  • Except better, and a total lack of fear and categorization. Hard to compare them with anyone, even if it's a mix of two bands.

  • kiwi kiwi kiwi

    I love them

shame they are like 30years older then me

  • Always the KIWIS!!!

  • KoyWoys Rool, Maate!!

  • KoyWoys Rool!!!

  • to all you pretend emo`s take note

  • My fave Split Enz tune. Probably more than

'I Need You'. They just look like their having fun, being creative, etc. A lot of energy! Go Tim!

  • Richard Thompson ought to cover this: it reminds me of his classic "Valerie" (1986).

I love these guys' zany homemade nerd-goth look. Wonderful, original band. God bless Kiwipop!

  • great song great band

  • These guys had a lot of great songs.

  • Mandy Anderson my pen pal from New Zealand 20 years ago this is dedicated to you. Hope you are doing well.

  • along with Shark attack, the best two tunes from thier "middle years"

  • Remember split enz ended because Tim was bigger then the band, if you add all the hits as one CH, SE, FB,

    shit they were the best.

  • Just about my fav Enz song, lots of frantic energy.

  • Tim is a fuckwit

  • why?

  • coz he can't get over the fact that Neil is bigger than him

  • because he has more money then you?

  • go NZ!!!!

  • tan buenos como los hombres g

  • What a wicked song. These Kiwis were rocking. Fully sic!

  • Neil Finn primarily played guitar for the Enz until 1978/79, when he started writing and singing his own songs.

  • So that was Neil Finn on guitar, the brothers "switching positions"? Sh#t! Hahaha COOL!

  • Frenzy was 1979, not 1977, JimEAPG. And there's no video for Betty.

  • Great song, love the finn brothers together!

  • Fantastic song, but has anyone got Betty? Also from Frenzy.

  • Lol awesome... I was givin there old bass amp heh

  • One crazy song, one crazy band. Awsome!!!

  • Give Neil something to do! Fun vid.

  • Yeah. I would have seen them perform the Frank. They could have handled it.

  • Great!! excelent song
