  • I cant wait to do this song today!

  • hey im in a junior production of this on stage (under 18s) they want me to audition but i really dont know any parts for someone my age (boy aged 13)

  • @MyPandasrule Hugo is a good place to start. If not, there's always Harvey Johnson!

  • Paul Lynde is great, but I just can't see him as a heterosexual family man.

  • Paul Lynde will always remind me of Templeton...

On another note, this song becomes more and more true with each passing year (minus the fact that I don't have children).

  • @llc88 Yea, because that's what we're supposed to say,as we get older & we all think that the world is gonna fall apart, and so on. I think that might be more because of ..."Adults."

  • I really prefer the actual musical version of this. The different lyrics are really unfunny.

  • The woman that plays Dick Van Dyke's mom (Maureen Stapleton) is the same age as Dick Van Dyke in real life. Both are born in 1925.

  • Does anyone know where to find the karaoke version of this song?? I NEED it.

  • Oh man... I love love love these types of movies. Screw modernity. Every time I hear that guy's voice, i think of Templeton the Rat. :)

  • I love the way he says KIDS!

  • Poor Albert...

  • We're doing this play at my school and i want to be Mae! :)

  • I wonder how uncomfortable this role made Paul Lynde feel, playing the part of a husband and father?

  • @SirReal1958 He got his money.

  • @SirReal1958 For a man who didn't want to be defined by his sexuality (even though it was painfully obvious) so it wouldn't limit his ability to receive 'serious roles' I am sure it made him plenty comfortable, Maybe even happy.

  • Im really excited because I get to sing this song! I play Mr.Macafee in this show at my theatre! But were changing it to grandma macafee. Im rlly excited!

  • "But it's my hair!" "Not till you're 21!"

  • No need for subtitles here - every voice rings out clear and true. Great performance all around.

  • i love this, im 19 and i quote this all the time, but then again i would rather have been a teenager in this time period

  • is that dick van dyke?

  • My Mama to a T.....

  • this is actually really good. hahahaha

  • When we were young, we may have been somewhat good in school, but lots of loud bullies who think learning is for idiots now, trying to ruin it for the rest.

  • I respect you papa! :D

    I don't want your respect!

  • I respect you papa! :D

    I don't want your respect!

  • She's putting her head in the oven, now it's 2011 that's not politically correct for a family movie, but back when this movie was made people did kill themselves putting their head in a gas oven.

    .

Paul you were the best miss you!

    .

    RIP funny man.

  • I LOVE the way Paul Lynde runs to the stairs & says...."You dare defy your mother"?!? He is way too funny LoL

  • Seriously, what's wrong with those motherfuckers?

  • It's the rap music and the video games, I tell you what.

  • ROOOSSIIEEE!!! MAAAMMAA!!!

  • don't you love the issues with generations? xD

    then: what's the matter with kids?! they're dying their hair without my permission!! ;A;

Today: WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH KIDS?! they're smoking weed and crack in our backyard!

  • Whenever I hear this song, all I think is the simpsons making fun of this in an episode.

  • My favorite musical

  • At least this is a bit more civilized than the Simpsons version. xD

  • classic every time sooooo genius for every generation....wowowowowowow

xXx i find myself singing this at random moments...yupp

  • classic every time sooooo genius for every generation....wowowowowowow

xXx i find myself singing this at ranom moments...yupp

  • Paul Lynde playing a father?

  • they don't make em like Paul Lynde anymore...or dick van dyke...there are no equals in today's generation

  • Great song but I wonder what that old lady's and paul's parents would say about them. :)

  • The film bucthered the Broadway version. This number is a perfect example.

  • This is my favorite song from the movie i just love it when Dick Van Dyke says... Mamma take it easy. He's so very talented. <3

  • Nowadays they skip the songs and just shoot the kid

  • Dick van Dyke???Whadda name.....

  • Have a nice day! Post this on 2 other videos to spread the message.

  • I am currently playing Randolph, the kid brother in this play, and I try my best not to crack up when I say, "I respect you, pa," and Mr. Macafee says, "I don't want your respect!" It is just so funny!

  • why can't they be like albert?

    perfect in every way!

  • i love the dad!!!! HA HA

  • really truly, what is the matter with kids today??

  • @headbangerbunny Their parents -- that's what's the mattel with kids today. Mattel created the Barbie and Ken dolls and owned the Ringling Barnum and Bailey Circus.

  • Hate to break it too you kid, but Paul Ly- I mean Harry is not your real dad.

  • AHH! ITS MY HAIR!!

    DD- NOT TILL UR 21

    ME-xD LOL

  • The Dad sounds like London Tipton's mirror on Suite Life of Zach and Cody/ On Deck lol

  • @OrphanRoxMySox -i think they tried to impersonate him

  • Dick Van Dyke and Maureen Stapleton were the same age. Whatevs. They're both brilliant here.

  • shows steal that joke all the time "its not gas its electric" lol

  • Agh, Dick Van Dyke is SO cute! <3 :D

  • I respect ya papa!

I don't want your respect! who wants respect from a ten year old?!

do you know how hard it is to get respect from a ten year old?! :) and i'm only 12

  • really like this clip - a little trivia.....dick van dyke's original name was: penis van lesbian

  • Great song and clip from this fantastic movie that shows how wonderful Paul Lynde was and how great of an actor he was and singer too. I miss him and feel he was one of the best comedians out there and loved him on Bewitched and Donnie and Marie. Thank god for all the videos of him left for all of us to enjoy still 25 years after his death. Thanks for the post of this.

  • could you upload put on a happy face??(if you have it offcourse)

  • i tried out for randolf McAffe today, I hope i get him :)

  • Gosh, we're doing this for the Spring Musical at my school. I want to be Albert's mother soooo badly. :) I love her. <3

  • "I respect you, Papa!"

    "I don't want your respeeect!"

I don't know why, but that cracked me up!

  • @jackkoffin1 haha; I know. :)

  • Ah, the good old days of traditional American values... a hyperbolic and suicidal grandmother, a clearly gay father who hates his children, oh yeah- and endless singing! Wait a minute....

  • @jackkoffin1 She's not anyone's grandmother, she's Albert's mother.

  • @jackkoffin1 lol

  • it was great comming home from school and sitting down and waiting for the 4:30 movie to come , and then to find out this movie was on....it was awsome!!

  • I don't want your respe-e-ect

  • MYSTERYGUITARMAN YAY:D

  • Thanks for this. Gunna go for the Mother in my schools show >:) I get to be whiny for a reason!

  • What a???

-"Respect. Do you hear respect? Respect."

    -"I respect you, Papa."

    -"I don´t want your respect."

XD I don´t understand the point of that, but it´s a funny line XD

  • @94SwedishGuy lol the point is basically to rip on Randolph because he's 10

  • @94SwedishGuy It's funnier when he's like "I don't want YOUR respect".

  • Hehe revenge from Rosie

It's Dick Van Dyke, not Dick Van Dick.

  • @AventuraLuver sorry about that

  • @AventuraLuver

    LOL..Dick van Dick...oh man

  • @AventuraLuver It's "Bye, kids", not "Bye, buy birdie".

  • @etbella3 what?

  • good job cutrbess

    thanks for posting :D

  • Let this movie a reminder why you should never pick your mother over a hot piece of tail (at least one that won't screw you over).

Because your mother will NEVER look at good in lingerie as the chick.

  • A gas back then meant cool, great, outta sight - she meant isn't the fact that I bleached my hair unbelievably cool?!?

  • It's Paul Lynde, not Lynn.

  • @jaybb sorry

  • lol at the end they totally change their mind XD

  • I hear

all the chicken soup that I made for you.

Now you throw me out like a worn out shoe.

  • "Isn't it a gas?"

what does that expression suppose to mean?

  • Means "Isn't it fun" or a good time. being sarcastic

  • She means "isn't it cute/adorable/in fashion

  • @simhopp Pretty sure she's making reference to the gas oven that she tries to "kill" herself with. (trying to guilt albert)

  • Nailed my part as Mr.Macafee today =P

  • im so nervous im practicing this because i have try outs soon! ah!

  • I've been looking for this for a long time. No video stores have the movie. Was Paul Lynde great or what???

  • Try a book store like B&N or Borders. They usually have it xD! That's where I got my copy!

TY for posting this vid! I've been trying to show people this clip since FOREVER! But I could NEVER find it! Paul Lynn is a GENIUS! His vocal tones and facial expressions puts this OVER THE TOP!

  • I think the closest B&N is about 50 miles away, but our kids live near that town, so maybe...anyway, maybe this'll get me off my but to join Netflix. We're pretty new to the internet but I looooove watching these old movies. Thanks alot, darlin'.

  • haha...i luv this song nd i cant wait fer my choir to do this song in february. =)

  • uh hello?!? the woman singing is Maureen Stapleton! And it's Dick van DYKE, not Dick van Dick.

  • THANKS a milliion for posting this! It's one of my favorite numbers from the classic musical comedy "Bye Bye Birdie". I'm so glad the producers had Paul Lynde recreate his Broadway role as Harry Macafee for the 1963 movie version. He was a comic genius....no one quite like him. Sad that he's no longer with us. I still miss him. THANKS again for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us! :)

  • No problem!!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!!

  • yeah thanks, i made the school musical and am singing this song as the mother

  • i like the Are You Being Served? version

  • Jeez, why is there no version of this that starts at the song? Did we need that 1:14 before the song?

  • Sorry, but I love the lead up to the song.

    "I respect you papa",

    "I don't want your respect"

  • @curtbess ditto - thanks for including it

  • didn't the simpsons make a parody of this song called kids vs adults

  • Someone asked Paul Lynde "Why do bikers always wear leather?" He said "Because chiffon wrinkles!"

  • Anyone see the simpsons version of this song?

  • The little kid looks like a kid I know, almost perfect :S

  • Paul Lynde's straightest role!

  • very nice
