  • Nice review!

  • Very nice sound \m/ but I was wondering, how does the middle pickup sound? I'm willing to build an 81/SA/85 dragonfire set, do you have any video using the middle pickup?

  • @michelterres i honestly didn't even have the emg wired. the middle DFSA was fine, i just didn't need it for that guitar in particular

  • hey, I just got a fender MIM "93 duo sonic that was loaded with these SA pickups, yhought id hate em but alas...there not bad at all! I noticed that when i first plug in the sound kicks in slowly(like a second or two) is this normal for actives?. great playing BTW.

  • @scot66oman i haven't ever experienced that ever. not sure what that could be. thank you kindly

  • Dragon fire PUs Rock chk em out No Doubts !!

  • Good Review , I Have Dragon Fire Pure Vintage Strat Pickups,Installed On My 89 Lotus Custom Strat Copy, Love Em !!! I Saved Over 100.00 Bucks Too

I'm Very Happy With These PU's , Sparkle Clean and Distort Well.

You Play Well Great Scales Alien Fingers lol // : )

    John C Michelson

  • I got these pickups for only 20 bucks a piece of ebay. there's more of them and other types from dragonfire.

  • you got skills lol better than my typing skills lol

  • ya go skill my freind, ordeing my second set of dragonfire pickups today lol

  • @marktanner424 thanks man!

  • For those of you looking for links to these pickups, they're available under the "Pro Series Pickguards" on the Dragonfire website. I know, the site buries them for some reason. Also, their Screamers are awesome humbucking pickups

  • this is the best sounding single coil i have ever heard

  • Shit!

  • the high treble is why fender put tone knobs on everything..lol

  • You have single-handedly convinced me to...acquire my friends old strat, and but one of the dragonfire active pickguards for if. It's the sound I"m looking for in a guitar. Thanks man. One question: How does it sound clean?

  • @CCGuitarGod a little compressed, which i find cool. get the pre wired Dragon fire DG pickgard. there based off David Gilmore's emg's. which is pimp. The bottom most tone knob acts as a mid contour which is really cool. i had to mess with my to make mine do that but it comes that way. hope i help you a bit

  • Great player!

  • Good demo. Thumbs up.

  • I was expecting these pickups to be really muddy and generally rubbish, but they actually sound really good! .. to the degree that I might have to try to find a set...

  • @warchild1976

yes i have found. The DG's Are the same as SA's. the only difference being that the DG's come with a really awesome pot set up that both provides a mid boost on one knob and a treble/ bass contour with the other. But the pickups them self's are just SA's.

  • @warchild1976

i went on a little search online to see it i could find these for you. but i couldn't!! i am not sure if they got discontinued or what. i have just put a set of dimarzio's in this guitar and these dragonfire's are just chillin. so if you cant find any in the next little bit. i would be willing to sell you mine.

  • @warchild1976 i would try guitar parts online. if its not their. maybe just got through e-bay. that's were i get almost everything. good luck :) hope you like them when you get them

  • @guitarman801 - I just bought a Dragonfire-SA and installed it in the neck on my guitar and have noticed the output/volume is half of the bridge pickup(SD Blackouts AHB-1n). I've had EMG DG-20 setup and they didn't have this low of an output/volume. ***Did I get a dud or are they supposed to be like this?

  • @InterspeciesErotica7 Well, its hard for me to say. in my experience with these, i had no such problem. it could be a phase issue, or a bunch of other stuff that could be fixed with simply tinkering around. the dragon fires have a little bit of a "break in" period, i guess you could say. but i have never experienced what you are. i would say just fool about with it. flip some wires around until it sounds better. or consult a tech. sorry i couldn't be more help

  • @guitarman801 - Any help is/was appreciated. I have the most simple wiring, just a 3way toggle pickup selector, on/off for the battery(red/power) w/ a Mono jack

  • @InterspeciesErotica7 pretty sure you need a stereo jack to run any form of active pickups. and the can not be used in conjunction with any form of passive pickups. are you sure you have a mono jack installed? if so, then that could be your problem.

  • @guitarman801 - nah. the mono jack works. they use a stereo jack so the ground on the instrument cable completes the circuit. That's why I installed a on/off switch so it doesn't kill the battery

  • Don't listen to the negativity. Your review was very well done and I found it quite useful. Those slamming on your "shredding" are clearly jealous. How do try know whether you can play in the pocket or not? Being fluent in economy and sweep picking and being in the pocket aren't mutually exclusive skills. Both have their place. You are a fine player and are good at explaining without being a guitar snob. Rock on and remember to always serve the song. Do that and you'll never go wrong!

  • Its hard to get a good understanding of the pickups through youtube reviews, because it just becomes a excuse for people to noodle and show off their chops. Though you are a good guitarist you review provided nothing about the pickup. Openness, clarity, tone, ect.....

  • Finally! A review that combines relevant info by talking like a "real" player would, not a lot of "blah, blah, blah" AND the chops to really let those pickups shine. EXCELLENT JOB!!!!!

  • @jimmbo118 thanks a ton! what kind of music do you play?

  • @guitarman801

Mostly "Classic Rock" in my cover band. I enjoy playing more "shreddy" stuff for the original stuff, but I must say,I gotta LONG way to go to get to your level, even though I've been playing for close to 30 years, LOL!

  • @jimmbo118 shred for the most part is not nearly as important as the ability to play in the pocket of the beat. the last part of this vid is a perfect example of how NOT to do that. but if you can be the guy that is always on the beat, you will get a million more gigs then the guy who can play every sweep arpeggio at 1000 bpm's and that's it. i look at shred like a banjo. a gentleman knows how to play it... but doesn't

  • @guitarman801

LOL! Well said! I hope there are a LOT of fellow axe-slingers reading this and taking some well laid out advice.

  • @jimmbo118 Most of them wont. Paul Gilbert and Satriani Both preach this. yet 99.99999 percent of striving guitar players miss the bout on that concept. me included. but I'm trying to remedy that by taking my own advice; music comes first. then showing off. THEN how cool your hair is on stage. in that order. and that order alone. any other order is fubar

  • @guitarman801

HAHA! Well, I better get to growing my hair again to make up for my playing! 8-)

  • @jimmbo118 hey I'm new to the whole Lesson/ review thing on you tube. but would love to get into it. is there anything you specifically would want to work on? if so. i would be happy to make video. it would get me started and hopefully help you out if your interested
