@ElRancholo2 i'm an amateur fighter. never done a bench press in my life. being a fighter though its a different sport from weightlifting all together. at 6 foot 2, I weigh 14 stone , 5 percent body fat and have never touched gym equipment. Its a lot more work doing natural body work outs but I want to keep my flexibility and speed.
@WhenWeWereKings100 True, I don't disagree with that. I have fought MMA and boxing, and that is before I started bodybuilding, I was faster back then.
@ElRancholo2 depends what people go for. when i start slowing down i'm going too need to bulk up more to compensate for the loss of speed. what sort of routine you got going at the moment?
Has anyone tried this DVD? Judging by what it says on Bodyweight Basics, seems to be more of an upper body workout - which is fine with me! I was just wondering if anyone has purchased the DVD and what are their thoughts? Thanks!
@sLevnZelevn i have a door mounted one and it has never caused me a problem in fact their really nice they have a lot of different hand grip positions to really workout your back and biceps
im 13 only dope-free at 202lbs and 6'4", incredibly perfect shape(holding numberous records of physical fitness in my whole school)and i can do pull ups with rest and pause, 73 in a row with no stop from dead hang and no kipping. :)
@Gabzerelli5 ..yeah same...I want one too. What I do is take a deck of cards, flip it over and draw one at a time. hearts=regular pushups, diamonds=diamond pushups, clubs=situps, and spades=pullups...if you do the whole thing you end up doing 85 or 95 reps of each depending if you make the aces 1 or 11. btw face cards are 10. do the amount and what is indicated on card
All these sh** talkers on this comment board should realize that not only is Maxwell strong, but he became Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion in his mid 40's,,

@hs41982 cuz i use my stairs? nooo....im an engineering student, lol and my stairs have gaps that i use to grip and i just do pull ups, push ups, run, etc etc
you should not be doing pull ups every day.... thats very very silly. for muscles to grow they obviously need time to build up. put a rest day in between and do some push exercises like pushups on that rest day.
im not a bodybuilder :P nor was i referring to bodybuilding, i was talking about how your body works in general whatever your training for.. be it mass , strength or endurance, overtraining is an issue.
overtraining means no gains, as in no gains in neither strength or mass, and possibly damaged CNS.
even if your training for endurance (light weight high reps) its good to have rest days for your CNS and joints to recover, ( not to mention tendons and muscles)
no no no mann. you will impove sooooo much more of you do fewer sets and more reps. any workout you do should only be about 45 minutes long (not including cardio). push yourself hard every set, and you wont have to spend hours and hours training.
definitely suggest a days rest in between workouts, i've been following a Men's Health workout 3 times a week, the workout plan came with the pull up bar set and that shit has cut my whole body up. I've done it for six weeks now and have lost over 20 pounds. went from 140 to 120 and i got super cut, the resting period in between workouts definitely benefits you in the end. however on my rest day, i do shit ton of cardio
Doesn't the around-the-world pullup put similar strain on the elbows and wrists as the hand positions he mentioned in the beginning? How long does it take to build up your muscles and tendons to prevent injury?
Some of you nay sayers have no Idea who Steve Maxwell is or what the fuck you are talking about, the guy has forgotten more about fitness, strength and joint mobility then any of you will ever know. on top of that he is an ex NCAA collegiate wrestler, Brazilian Jiujitsu Pan American and world Champion Black belt . strength and conditioning coach for professional athletes, Diego Sanchez amongst others... what have you done? I have known Steve for close to 15 years he was my first jj instructor.
You're an idiot. This is technique #14... he does like 40 before this in previous techniques. He doesnt shoot the video doing 1 technique every few hours. Post your pullup video. k thx.
jimpfixer obviously you have no idea how this guy is , I mean hi;s a huge legend , very respected in the fitness community , so you better do some research before speak up.
In my experience older athletes usually don't give good advice. Because their used to older workout techniques which are a strain on joints. That explains why he has sore joints etc. He also has terrible technique when he rotates over to his right(our left).
Wow....this is a fitness DVD. He has shitty form and goes too fast.....I do them better than him...if anyone is considering getting this DON'T! Get P90X works for me.
The guy has a very good comment on the neutral grip (palms facing each other) I've done those a coupple of weeks , which resulted in elbow pains, could it be that the neutral grip doesnt work?
Just hang on the bars, do 6 sets for as long as you can 3 times a week for 4 weeks...and then you will do pull ups with ease...take it from the monkeys in the trees
best 2 do first thing in morning when you get up. i find that if you glue some razor blades 2 the bar using this technique u can save time shaving in the morning. that way if your fa ce , head, chest, and armpits r cleanly shaved like this guy u know u've done the exercises properly. i swear by it!!!
The guy is great. He's muscled without being a 'Worm-man' and he's doing the thing and explaining it well. Re post below - you can hear him breathing through the exercises.

The tremble you experience is your central nervous system reacting to an exercise it is not used too. Just keep it up and the shaking will go away. I used to have the same problem, but now it's gone.
Instead of doing a set of 10, do something like 3 sets of 4. Just keep that up adding a pull up to each set every week or so. Pretty soon you're body will get used to the movement and you'll be able to do the 10 pull ups without shaking.
Do bodyweight workouts and this will get you big in time...

brayden12345 1 year ago

gavinjoaquinolivas 1 year ago
brayden is right
while working out you get micro tears in your muscle , which your body repairs by adding a new layer of muscle , thus the muscle grows.
this takes place after a workout , while muscles are resting.
now if you have an intense workout one day and then the same thing the next day , your overtraining and your muscles will not grow .
the bigger the muscle the harder it should work and the more rest it needs ( eg: legs can take 5-6 days to heal completely after an Intense workout)

if it is a really really intense workout, then sometimes you need two days to recover. but on most workouts you only need one day of rest.
