We do know that Harvey Dent did make that choice, all right. However, as I have said, he was already a nervous wreck when the Joker played devil's advocate at him. Think about it: you lost your beloved, you are horribl injured in danger of death. Wouldn't that piss you off, especially when no one's coming to comfort you? (Gordon did not really do that.) It was just one bad day, but as the Joker said, it can make a man as idealistic and naive as Dent go nuts.
