My generation (Musically) is coming to a close. I thank god that I grew up during this period and I was blessed to see Dire Straits in concert on several occasions. I first saw them at a small venue called the Paradise Club in Boston,Ma. Back in 1979 with their success of Sultan's of Swing. i just saw Mark (solo) at the Orpheum Theater in Boston 2010.
Definetly Outstanding!!! There is this sweet mood in the sound that is nfasdj ñfdaskj bu bajbdjkab .... what the hell I´m trying to say!?? don´t know. I just miss this spirit.
It is -impossible- to play a single song of Dire Straits on guitar (at least, if you're not Mark Knopfler); there's such a STRONG feeling only Mark has.
dificil no llorar con un temaso como este/ its hard to not cry with such a great song like this, it has so emotion, the song has its own soul, its incredible....
What a great british song from a very great british gentlemen , its my greatest heartbreaker song, cuts me so deep in my bones , my spirit , my mind , my heart............ Great emotional song.
neil young(goin home) Carlos santana (anything) gary moore (anything) dave gilmore(anything) such honed talent yet no one in the wings fit to take their crowns. just our dreams when they have all gone but what dreams they gave us.keep rockin.
You know a song is just amazing when the band who wrote it gets emotional playing it live...Look at Clapton, Knopfler, and the keyboard player near the end there...They all look to be on the verge of tears!
Mark Knopfler doesn't play the guitar...He apparently makes it an extension of his body and makes it express emotions...
"Actually, you know when someone was talking about the last album being banned, it wasn't just the last one, it was the very first one. We got banned by the South African goverment back in 1979, i'm very pleased to say.
This one is really for the gentleman in question this evening. Best birthdayparty we've ever been to. Thanks for having us.
Hi, the story is as follows: Billy Connolly introduced Dire Straits and told the audience that they had been banned in South Africa when they released Brothers In Arms, when in fact the ban had gone back as far as 1979, since the band had spoken out against apartheid. All royalties from sales of DS music in SA had been given to Amnesty International.
seriously how fuckin god damn good is that!? never heard song til 2 nites ago (magic fm in london seem to keep playin for some reason) I've listened to it about 50 times since.
brothers in arms is damn well my favourite DS song, but other classics like Romeo and Juliet and Love Over Gold are imo nearly as good, that must be my personal Straits top3 in fact.
...if you havent already heard it... try...Telegraph road... Live!! Or sultans of swing... Live! These two along with brothers in arms are in my mind amongst the best tracks ever written... the type of music that cannot be replicated!
i dont think there has ever been a greater version of this song every time i listen to it i cant help but sit here afterwards and bask in its amazingness everything about it is just amazing, i saw mark last year in manchester its amazing life but still doesnt compare to this version
One of my favourite songs, a song of sorrow and reality. A song about life, a poetry, a crying guitarr who can turn in tears everyone who listen carefully. Before ill close my eyes for good i would like to listen this song and remember the bad and good things in my life.
Very emotional still after all this time, a true classic.

For tone, I like his Les Paul better. Still one of the best performances of this song. I just wish he'd play with Eric again someday

Rock guitarist? I'm not really sure I would give someone like Knopfler a term as generic as greatest "rock" guitarist. Still a great player though.

The best performance ever. This song means a lot to me, show me that in this world the hope, loyality, frienship and love between man still exist.
Dire Straits will never die, master pieces like that will never be fogotten, it was written in the starlight and every line in your palm.
