@zarakhast Far away I meant. There was a horse called Faraway Dancer which raced circa 1986 and that's where I probably got that from. Sheesh, articulate one moment, stupid the next.
Something a little different from what you may ordinarily hear. Dig.But then again, nothing I do is ever ordinary. Either it is extraordinary or its nothing. With love, to you in Cheraw & Hoover. krxn11
Unbelievably impressive album and this song in particular is stunning. Plus, I can't help but smile and laugh when I hear "...and it was raining." Not just death and bombardment, but rain! Genius.
No I mean the Budgies, the little feathered creatures, I had several Art of Noise12" vinyl singles ( still got a few )and one of my favorite has budgies gently chirping along to piano accompaniment , I'm pretty sure It was part of Beat Box diversion 2 but I don't have it anymore. Although Anne Dudley's piano playing was and still is sublime it was the budgies who were the stars. The Buggles didn't do it for me I'm afraid.
I have been an avid AON fan since I was about 9 old (1988 in case you're wondering, I've always been ahead of my time!) And I bought this album in 1999, it was the most beautiful aural experience I'd ever had, my only regret was that I didn't take the Reduction album at the same time, it appears to be super rare now! I was offered it at the time!
@YungZayYaDigg: It's a generation gap thing. To me, nothing will ever beat the 60's. What a great time I had growing up! American rock and roll as well as soul music was at its best. And then came the British Invasion! The Beatles led the way. They were so popular that they once had the top 10 or 15 songs on the radio one week during the countdown to #1. Nobody ever impacted the world of modern music the way they did. And then came the Rolling Stones and a whole lot more from across the pond.
I love this track. Whenever I'm doing shows and I need to do a sound check, to get the feel of the room, I always put this on. This and "The Holy Egoism of Genius" are amazing tracks to put a sound system through its paces. But I've been a fan of The Art of Noise since "Into Battle With..."
I love this song, it is my absolute favourite! I just checked, and, on my Ipod alone, I have listened to it 2539 times in the past 7 or so months!! There's just something so beautiful about it... it still gives me chills to listen to it!
Mainstream music is definitely getting worse, but this is not and never was mainstream. The internet has allowed all sorts of great niche artists to find fanbase. People who would have never cut it in the 80s or 90s.
Art of Noise was kind of lucky to find a following in the 80s. I'm sure there was plenty of fantastic stuff produced in the 80s that we never heard about because the only thing record labels wanted was pop and hair metal.
Was turned on to AoN ten years ago in a used CD store. Took them home and spent the entire day listening to them. It is truly one of my favorite CDs and I love the group. What an awesome treatment of Debussy! I am 72 and have lived through the Golden Age of Opera in NYC, Filmore East, the British Invasion, and only two can still set me on the ground in breathlessness--AoN and The Band. I never tiree of playing them.
God bless you qbic2 I've been looking for this piece for agaes. What a bless. Remember chilling back in the day listening to this. yay. Love it. Thanks!
(Intelligent Dance Music)... intelligent (as in intelligently sliced beats to follow the harmony and the tune of the song), they usually have a darker theme. But, when mixed with debussy, one can't feel "the dark" in the song, because debussy's impressionist harmonies provide a lifting feeling to it... Actually, I've found an artist doing this. "Venetian Snares" look it up... it has a song named "Szamar Madar" (it's in hungarian it meens "Donkey Bird"), It is idm mixed with Bartok.
Isn't it actually supposed to mean "Il pluit dans mon coeur comme il pluit sur la ville"? Dont remember too much of my french, or is it some sort of stylistic feature in the language?
You're almost there. Technically he should have said "Il pleut dans mon coeur", but he's making a pun, a ply on words byt using pleure.
Pleurer and pleuvoir (to cry and to rain) are similar in conjugation, but pleuvoir only ever conjugates in the 3rd person singular. I'm no expert on stylistics, but I think it's clever without being pretentious :)
hab das album im kosovo in 2001 gekauft war wohl die sache mit dem art of noise titel die mich dazu getrieben hat. konnte einfach nicht vergessen wer "instrument of darkness" gemacht hat obwohl das hier ganz anders aber dennoch sehr gut klingt, das ganze album klingt ja wie ein song einfach toll, thanks for putting it in here mate

I ask my wife to never disturb me when I play this album, unless it's an emergency! ha ha
It's so vivid, like Fantasia without the visuals. And, like a good movie, every time I play it, I hear new parts that it seems weren't there before.

"Il pleure dans mon coeur
Comme Il Pleut Sur La Ville"
"It is crying in my heart.
As it is raining on the city."
That's an old poem by the Romantic-era poet Paul Verlaine.
