  • Her eyes......

  • Hey everyone, we're an indie band looking for support.

  • @SunCountryMusic are you serious COLIN HOELL? Fuck you!

  • this is amazing

  • entropy demands that in the eventual course of the universe, St Vincent will be mine, with personal serenades on the regular. Life extension is worth this alone.

  • @Skillsss123 In the eventual course of the universe, we will be sucked up by the Milky Way's black hole.

  • She looks so unhappy

  • i love her so much

  • God I love her fucking teeth.

  • it isn't a Nico cover. Jackson Browne wrote this song when he was sixteen years old. BEAUTIFUL cover though Gregg Allman's version is arguably the best.

  • @vtharpe44 Nico sang it first and she uses the same chords. It's a nico cover.

  • Tabs online stated 5th capo, but this definitely sounds great where it is.

  • How many people lose the 1's they love.

That fiancé who was to be a wife.

    This song reminds me.

  • i have the same capo as herr

  • @todanes your medal is in the mail

  • I thought this was a Jackson Browne song.. I am pretty sure he wrote it.

  • bitch just need a bong

  • i want annie playing this at my funeral.

  • anyone know what type of microphone shes using (not the black one)

  • my fucking gawwwd could she be any more perfect

  • Jackson Browne cover*

  • @doc12brown Jackson Browne wrote it, but Nico was in fact the first to record and release These Days! So technically, it's still a Nico cover!

  • That was astounding

  • My heart has a boner...

I'm not trying to be sophomoric or stupid that's just the best way of describing how I felt listening to this wondeful rendition.

  • @CrazyMongo dude i feel the same way! serously your comments hud have more likes

  • If you are feeling sinister go out and see the minister he'll try in vain to dull the pain of being such a hopeless unbeliever

  • I'm officially bummed out.

  • Am I the only one confused at how a comment like "Cute chick . . . God I hate Brooklyn . . . herpderp!" from a guy named ManhattanBeefman made it to the top rated comment for this phenomenal St. Vincent video? You sad fuckers will upvote anything these days.

  • @egolayer13

    Homo - go fuck yourself.

Get it!?! - A homo fucking himself!!! Ahh haa haaaa....!

  • @MANHATTANBEEFMAN the irony is that your user name sounds like the name of a B&D musclebound stripper, working at a gay nightclub.

  • @fitmuppet

    How Dare You!!!

I'll request an apology! (Make it happen!!!)

    (Shhhhheeeeesssshhhh!)

  • @MANHATTANBEEFMAN

Actually you just made me laugh.

But seriously, are you a Gay stripper in a Manhattan Gay Bar? It's totally cool if you are, I won't tell anyone.

    love

-fitmuppet ( yes , I am a muscle bound puppet)

  • @egolayer13 I was wondering the same thing. but hey, at least it's better than the god awful "20 people are from brooklyn" or "thumbs up for 2:20!" nonsense that is taking over youtube everywhere.

    ...maybe.

  • This is such a beautiful rendition. Even placing aside that St. VIncent is quite beautiful, if a listener closes their eyes whilst listening to this one... her colourful voice takes us on an incredible journey deep within the story that this song conveys.

  • she looks so sad... it kills me ):

  • one of my favorite covers on youtube.

  • best cover, imo.

  • lovely!!!!!!!!!!! <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

  • Browne's version is fine, so is Nico's, but I agree with the people who say Tom Rush has the definitive version. His other Browne cover on the same LP, "Colors of the Sun" is also definitive. This version is more flaccid and boring than anything else.

  • @notthebannerboys Nobody can really say who's version is "best". :-) JB wrote it, so he should get the nod, but it was put out as a cover by Nico. This vid/cover is far superior to Nico's which, IMO, is dreadul. Tom Rush's cover is nice, Glenn Cambell covered Tom Rush's cover. I think JB finally got it right in the solo acoustic album, it is (for me anyway) the definitive version. It is interesting how it changes as performed by those artists.

  • @lloydh65 I agree that we treat music too much like sports when we get caught up in who or what the "best" is. It's more interesting to talk about the merits or lack thereof of an individual performance without having to make claims about other versions. What I don't agree with is that JB gets "the nod because he wrote it." Billie Holiday, just to name one of hundreds of examples, wasn't hurt the least little bit by the fact that she didn't write her own material.

  • @notthebannerboys To paraphrase Sam Kinison- music is a rainbow, the best you can hope for is a color. My personal favorite version of this song is JB's Solo Acoustic version. Until I heard this cover (wonderful! and true to the "original") I just didn't care for it. I'm generally not a fan of covers, but I admit that there are some that (IMO and preference) are an improvement over the original (e.g. Janis Joplin/BB&THCo. "Summertime").

  • god she rapes the original.

  • Tallest man on earth and st vincent both did a great job with this song.

  • The only cover that makes me feel something,

  • The view out the window looks like the cover of radiohead ok computer!

  • @southerncomfort356 i thought the same!

  • She doesn't look bored she looks tired. That type of exhaustion that can only come from thinking of someone so many times that you can longer show hurt or regret in your face.

  • This makes me wanna shoot myself in the big toe.

  • not a nico cover, it's a jackson browne song ! nico covered jackson browne.

funny comment about her ' looking like a shivering chihuaha '. she has a warbly bird voice too.

  • @hiplinkchain

Jackson Browne wrote this song when he was 16. When he dated Nico he gave her the rights to the song in 1967....fun facts~

  • beautiful guitar sound and beautiful rendition to this song

  • beautiful!! as good as Nico :)

  • i keep watching this when im really sad. like right now.

    and its already getting better.

  • Sweet <3

  • lovely

  • oh god there's some really dumb comments in here.

  • She looks like a shivering chihuaha.

  • she stops my mumble-jumble thoughts in their tracks...as Nico did so long ago.

  • I Luv you Mari <3

  • I can't watch Annie enough

  • @MANHATTANBEEFMAN Tom Rush's version is OKAY, not great. The clarity of guitar/ chord choice (no capo) kind of strips the song of its magic. I think St. Vincent did a pretty good job, but of course nobody touches the original J. Browne himself.

  • @MANHATTANBEEFMAN the song is Jackson Browne's not Tom Rush's

I personally prefer this version over others because of Annie's voice, but the props go to Browne for writing obviously.

  • @bassman31793 I'm well aware that Jackson Browne wrote the song - when he was 16 no less. But his countrified version does not compare favorably to Tom Rush's simple, subtle cover. I would also higly recommend Tom Rush's version of 'Child's Song' as another seminal cover.

  • @cafzal43

I'm well aware that Jackson Brown wrote it and that the no-talent hack Nico tried to sing it - but Tom Rush covered it best. That's a fact - it's in all the history books under "Who Sang It Best" - look it up if you don't believe me. I bet you live in Brooklyn, don't you turd? LMAO!!!

  • @MANHATTANBEEFMAN As someone who lives in DUMBO, I think I can confidently say that Brooklyn is waaaay cooler than Manhattan.

    Well, sometimes...

  • @MANHATTANBEEFMAN Tom Rush didn't do this song originally. Jackson Browne wrote it in '64 or '65, Nico was the first to record it for release in 1967, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1968, then by Tom Rush in 1970.

  • @thoughtsoflepers For heaven's sake - how many times does the Beefman have to explain himself? Yes, I am aware that JB wrote this wonderful ditty when he was a mere lad of 16. The talentless whore groupie Nico then attempted to sing it. Who the hell is the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - didn't know about their cover - may I assume that it's no good? And then along comes Tom Rush - marginally talented as a vocalist but a simple, evocative folk singer who gave the song a simple reading. There!!!!!

  • this cover is my favourite song ever

  • There's no timing. It's like she's sing-talking and the guitar is optional.

  • I have never, ever seen a singer put her soul so much into one song.

  • I think she looks more nostalgic and lost in thought than just bored, and she has genuine pain on her face when she sings "I had a lover, I don't think I'd risk another these days." Just my opinion.

  • I usually hate covers of this song, since Nico's rendition is my favorite song ever

    But this is awesome!

  • @broadwaymelody33 oh lordy, Nico's version sounds dreadful! I mean- much respect- but, no.

  • @isaaalalala

To each his own. I'm really into the Velvet Underground and stuff, lol.

And don't try to add on a "much respect" where you don't mean it XD.

  • Possibly thee most adorable girl on the Earth

  • Shes really beutiful and creative to bad the only thing we see on t.v. is lady gaga or katy perry

  • Amazing voice. She looks super bored though.

  • wow. incredible cover

  • its too bad 17 people accidentally clicked the wrong thumb button. you gotta look before you click, people!

  • i'm in love.

    thank you for this.

  • i love her facial features. i am very attracted to her

  • best thing ever.

  • dollface

  • beautiful she is

  • beautiful

  • "I had a lover, I don't think I'll risk another these days."

  • Somewhere during her version of this song, just for a moment, the world stopped turning. Everything held it's breath.

  • I'm hypnotized by her angelic voice and her dreamy eyes.

  • I had a lover, I don't think I'll risk another These days, these days. And if I seem to be afraid To live the life that I have made in song It's just that I've been losing so long. La la la la la, la la I've stopped my dreaming, I won't do too much scheming These days, these days. These days I sit on corner stones And count the time in quarter tones to ten. Please don't confront me with my failures, I had not forgotten them
  • I've been out walking I don't do too much talking These days, these days. These days I seem to think a lot About the things that I forgot to do And all the times I had the chance to. I've stopped my rambling, I don't do too much gambling These days, these days. These days I seem to think about How all the changes came about my ways And I wonder if I'll see another highway.
  • False. It is a Jackson Browne cover which he wrote when he was 16. Nico covered him ,etc.

  • False. It is a Jackson Browne cover which he wrote when he was 16. Nico covered him ,etc.

  • I love youtube,,a bunch talentless fux debating about whats good and whats not and who did this and who did that,,get a life losers

  • for some reason she reminds me of Fiest. love it

  • @cellylove711 Except St. Vincent is a guitar wizard

  • fuck everyone who has every played a telecaster

  • love love.... love.. where are you??? nice song!!

  • wow.

  • wow. she does no wrong.

  • Loveeee Nico

  • Yeah... if you like soulless Target commercials, this version is great!

  • @tigercasual Seriously? This version has actual passion. Nico sounds like she was given a sheet of lyrics and went at it without anyone showing her the music.

  • @Kafeifei Hmmm... if passion is a twelve-year-old girl upset because her parents took her cell phone away, then you're right. Some of us have, however, have a definition of passion that is not generic, meaningless and contrived.

  • @tigercasual A description like that actually makes it sound entirely contrived. Don't fool yourself into thinking you've got a plane of judgement above all else's. Passion is passion is passion is passion.

  • I like it better than Nico's version

  • So beautiful. My favorite song.

  • I felt peace.

  • She needs to put this cover on her next album.

  • gay put it in a ford commercial. i like the original . im over this vocal quirky shit . give your own voice for fuck sake. she has a good voice . like another 10000.bugg eyed stare does not mean sencere

  • @TRUTHJACK It's spelled sincere and this is a great version.

  • @jkininji no it is not

  • i don't know why she cut her hair, i think she looked better with his long her

btw check out her cover of The National's Mistaken for strangers

  • There is such sincerity in her eyes.

  • omg im gunna puke shes so cool. as a kid, my dad used to listen to listen to this all the time and i hated the jackson brown as a kid, but becuz of this song, i started listening to him! my dad has never been happier haha

  • the song is by jackson brown, not nico.. nico has only written a few songs within her career. most were by lou reed, lightfoot, dylan, cohen, etc.. fix it, silly!

  • @rattlecake Agreed. But arguably this is the Nico version, as the lyrics are slightly different from Jackson's studio release, and his version is more strummy than the fingerpicking style Nico's version employed. But definitely give credit where credit is due.

  • Whoa, teardrop - where did that come from!

  • She has perfect eyebrows.

  • @mikhkos I got it; it's just that if you're good enough you can play without a capo

  • w0w this is amazing

  • ahh, she sings this song so perfectly

  • This son was my favourite from Chelsea Girl <3. Beautiful.

  • It's a great song, amazingly performed... but halfway through, I suggest clicking the little soccer ball in the bottom right... hilarious!

  • magnifique

  • this song has brought me to tears twice.

  • @cavern9er it always does for me

  • hot

  • Look at the expression 2:17-2:22. If you listen closely, you can hear her voice wavering a little. The first time I watched St. Vincent cover this, I started crying. I've listened to the Browne and Nico versions a dozen times before and they've never moved me like this one....

  • Love it! she has such a nice voice

  • ...I think it's a worthy version. You've definitely got the song down. Nico's version, however, carries the weight of her whole history. It's way sadder, to these ears.

  • wow.

  • beautiful !

  • no, it's too affected. i like nico's way better. and is that a capo??

  • Delicate, compelling, stunning. The artist and the song.

  • it seems to be the time when there are many talented women who really

rock the scene. I know this is an old Nico tune, but, St. Vincent does good work of it.

I love a gal who can shred..

  • you fall in love you loose.

  • @ilovesteves I agree completely... especially because Nico sounds like a man haaaa

  • @colorfulrobots well, sorry,but i think that's just stupid

  • mantafffff

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • She really is a saint...

  • @AimeeQuirks You don't know that!... She sings like an angel thou...

  • she is just too beautiful for this world.

  • @KC7689 that sounds more ominous than complimentary!

  • Awesome!

  • amazing.

  • so good. just so mind blowingly good...

  • I like the guitar and pacing better on the Nico recording, but she's a way better singer, hands down. No offence to Nico, but pretty much every cover I hear on youtube does the vocals better.

  • mates of state do the best, followed by jackson browne. I'd like to hear her lay this down on acoustic and with her signature strings. It'd be much better - her voice needs a violin swell.

  • im willing to share her fellas! haha

  • While I still enjoy Nico's version more there is no doubt that this woman has incredible talent. A great cover:)

  • I swear I met her over 40 years ago, on the way to Frisco..

  • gorgeous! made the hairs on my neck stand up

  • Comment removed

  • It's hard to believe Jackson Browne wrote this song when he was only 16 years old. Amazing.

  • hands down amazing songg 24 forever!!!!!!!!!!

  • never have i gotten this many goosebumps.

    incredible

  • So, so beautiful.
