  • now its the 7970

  • @superclaw900 I agree. I have a 6970X2 and it barely beats a single 7970. It is amazing how far things have progressed.

  • @samuelrosenbalm by 6970x2 you mean the 6990 right?

  • Comment removed

  • @samuelrosenbalm damn 7970 having almost the same horsepower of 6990!

  • @superclaw900 It is an absolute beast. And when crossfired, will be power the likes of which none have ever seen.

  • Yep, fastest is GTX 580 if you have the money. Below that, GTX 570 or HD 6970.

  • @Kloborgg hmmgherkrhrhrkrm... atm its hd6990 the most powerfull. right naow

  • @xLycosax

No, 580 is still the fastest single GPU card.

  • @Kloborgg oh well yeah lulz bcuz its like single its 2 inside 1 not crossfire or sli.

  • current fastest single core gpu is the nvidia gtx 580

  • mine is a 8600gt from nvidia, is that a single gpu too?

  • @bayandsl

yes that is a single gpu card aswell.

  • GTX 480 ftw

  • @oliver4swe HD 6970 ftw

  • @hheintze1 Zup troll

  • Keep the questions coming :D

  • GTX 300? i think that it never came out did it?

  • Do you know, does hd 5870 fit into Antec Nine Hundred Two ?

  • @FPSBass yes it will thats a full tower no worry's there!

  • Even that, it's the best!! XD

  • How about the GTX 480??? For me it's the fastest single GPU it's a beast!!

  • @rjosehv this video its from 1/8/09 lol

  • @rjosehv i could OC my HD5870 even faster then yours

and even then i would not reach 90 degrees on celcius

so no GTX480 are not the fastest

  • 5970 is THE BEAST NOW!!

  • @TiLLiRise 5970 has 2 gpu's, its got 2 5870s inside so the 5870 is still the fastest single gpu card

  • @ninny12345 I didn't say anything different....I didn't clarify if I'm talking about single or dual gpu cards...But since 5970 is a dual gpu one, then it's better than the 5870...

  • My GPU was at 237 degrees Fahrenheit is that too hot. Lol

  • @SilentEH that depends on that it is in Celsius

  • 5870 = fast

    295 = cuda

  • what? the 295 is dual GPU graphic card

  • it's $260 sometimes.

  • yeap

  • It's amazing how almost every single one of Rodney's videos manages to spark a fanboy war in the comments. It's a shame, really. Additionally, if the products from one company were as much better than the other as a lot of people claim, there wouldn't be any competition (and competition is very fierce with these manufacturers). It just makes no sense.

  • Hand's down the HD 5870 is the worlds fastest single GPU video card,,,,... no questions about it...

To put matters in to simple words ATI/AMD makes better products compared to NVDIA....

cuda physx,, don't care about them, sooner or later those technologies will be gone and will be replaced by open cl....

  • @sourjerer

but if it was not for nvidia you guys would not have physics

  • @maranzano3255 Name a single game that people care about that uses Physx. And not just a little, I mean uses it to a pretty big extent.

  • @sourjerer WRONG. cuda physx are ALIVEE

  • @kuracodm hmm... physx is proprietary by NVIDIA, and open cl is open source.. as you may have noticed the new trends today are leaning towards an open sourced based community..... hmm its just a matter of time.. and hey.. NVIDIA is loosing grounds to ATI, meaning open cl is the safer choice...

  • @sourjerer no it isnt. ATI Radeon HD 5970 is

  • @bikesareawesomer

The 5970 has 2 gpu's on one card. It isn't a single GPU card, so the 5870 is the fastest:)

  • @bikesareawesomer lol!!!

  • @bikesareawesomer u fail

  • @bikesareawesomer hahaa nice one bro... ill have to update my post

  • Wow Rodney you're still making videos? Jesus man RESPECT lol. Last saw one of your video's a year or 2 ago... Wow Im going to sub to you for that man... Really great work

  • how could you NOT see his channel for 2 years if you are interrested in pc hardware?

  • Not really sure.... Just havent i guess lol

  • Intensely fast - that's graphics-tastic!

  • I rather take the 300...

  • Good luck paying twice the price of a 5870 for 5% (max)more performance.

  • I like nvidia more than ati... I think they are more stable.

  • No they aren't.

  • My was... I have an 9800 gt now cuz my 4850 crashed!! Before that i had a 8600 gt and it was better than the crashed 4850!

  • So because your 4850 broke, Nvidia cards are now better?

Every electronical device no matter will have a small chance of breaking.

For example a very high percentage of Nvidia GPU's in Mac workstations, all have problems...

  • I hate mac!! I dont care about you anymore!! I am a nvidiaboy!! And i have sperm in my hand!!

  • Congratulations!

  • Thx

  • every one knows nvidia is quality, ati is ok but cheap,,, if i had a choice betewn nvidia and ati,,i would go with nvidia

  • No that is just a fanboy comment, ATI have always been quality, they just don't plaster their name all over every other game.

The only thing Nvidia has over ATI now is 3D vision, but lets face it, thats overrated as it is, and once again overprice.

  • ok every one know that nvidia performes better...and go check 3dgameman channel and it shows how nvidia 295 gtx gddr3 rapes the his 5870 gddr5,,, and the 5870 costs almost 2x higher then the gtx 295.

  • Eh you sir are an idiot.

Yes gtx295 is slightly faster than a 5870, but the 5870 is a single GPU, the 285 is a dual GPU.

And no the gtx 295 is still more money...

  • i can get a evga 295 for 399$

    the 5870 for 499$,,

soo the gtx 295 is cheaper and much faster, and 285 is single gpu,, there i just proved that u are an idiot. end of the convo

  • Again your an idiot, yes i did a typo, wow.

Less being a fanboy? The Gtx295 only beats the 5870 by a tiny amount, obviously you've picked very biased result when comparing those prices...

If you actually knew anything about anything other than being a complete dick, you'd be aware the 5870 is still using early drivers with no DX11 games. The 5870 will only get better over time.

  • well i dont care,,, in vancouver 295 gtx is still cheaper, its older but its better, beside when the 300gtx series come out, it will rape the 5000 family into parts, and drivers increas performence by 10 to 40%,, until then,295 gtx is still better. end of the convo lil boy,and how am i a dick

  • I'm not saying the gtx295 is a bad card, infact its a very good card, but when the drivers mature and DX11 becomes more common the 5870 will beat the gtx295 hands down.

And for when the gt300 (or what ever its gonna be called) comes out the 59** series or 5870x2 will be there to beat it. NO matter what ATI will alwys beat onb price, and Nvida will double that just for the sake of what 3D vision, Cuda and PhysX? There all just a gimmick.

This time round ATI have got it all covered...

  • well true, but u dont even know what is cuba and physx and have u ever tried 3d vision? and in most of the ati cards, they dont use quality components like ss compasitor, copper heatsink, i never had a problem with nvidia, but i had 2 cards that the first month i got them, they broke one of was a 4000 series and the other one was 5000 series i think but my gt8800 9800 ultra 250gtx 260 gtx are still working like new,and when i get my second evga 295 gtx, i will have an ultimate machine.

  • Well Cuda and PhysX are quite good but until they get universally ported they will never be widely accepted.

And yes true some companies are notoriously known for using bad parts to keep costs down, but if you stick with decent brands, its fine.

And just for the record, I have recently just moved from a gtx275, so i am not using a biased view.

Nvidia are just overpriced simple. It's about time they got a new architecture out other than re branding cards for 3 generations...

  • agree

  • Calm down

  • thats because macs suck... get with the world today=P

  • You lost all your credibility when you said a 8600 gt is better than a 4850. Completely non-sense.

  • A general rule is nvidia being the more expensive manufacturer, not AMD.

  • I'm running 2 5870's Crossfire :)

  • bull shit your rich then

  • Single GPU card = 1 chip on 1 card

Dual GPU card = 2 chips on 1 card

Dual PCB GPU card = 1 chip on each of the 2 cards

  • I have my HD5870 @ 1GHz, look at my vid. It rocks cock :D

  • Lol, Tesla C1060 is much faster, for other tasks :P

  • Fastest is the one I made out of paperclips and tin cans... the 9890.

  • I want my PC to run Faster for my Gaming needs it keeps freezing and skipping because the games deman so much from my prossesor , I am a MAssive MMO player and WinMugen player, But here is my Specks

Prosesor: AMD Athlon (tm) x2 Duel Core around 1.90GHz

    Ram: 2G

    My OS: Vista HB, 32-bit

    GPU: Nvidia GeForce 7050 Pv

I need alil wisdom guys! help me out? what would u dont with this

  • I would like to ask something.

I've seen on your benchmarks that nvidia GTX295 getting better FPS than the 5870 at games.

So whats the difference between them and why is it better even tough it got less fps on the benchmark?

  • the GTX295 is dual GPU card the 5870 is single.

    A 5870X2 would destroy the GTX295

  • What's the difference between dual and single GPU? Its a single card anyway so why would I go with the 5870?

  • The only difference worth mentioning there, is higher power draw and (as a result) greater heat dissipation. An honorable mention for debate might be the price/performance ratio, but prices can fluctuate within a matter of hours, and change the whole right after a new product launch.

  • Thanks for the answer.

I assume that the 5870 can overclock better since its cooling better.

  • the difference is that its two graphics cards against one.

The 5870 is nearly the same, its less expensive, more power efficient and its

DX11.If you want best performance then just get four 5870's

  • either your stupid or just pretending to be lol

  • GTX295 is a 2 GPU Video card, as where the ATI 5870 is a single GPU video card.

  • umm maby its because it has one gpu ot two, if you dont know that dont bother watching any more videos

  • Because its much cheaper, uses less power, runs cooler, and Rodney is talking about single GPU cards, 295 is Dual GPU, hd5870 is single.

  • Yes . hd5870 is a single GPU card . I cant wait for the Hd 5870X2 .

  • rodney please but answer to video info becouse its easier to understand. thank you

  • 3D Game Man, I love your legit speeches and reviews. You don't give into "Intel/Nvidia" elitism. The worst part about people these days is that they are afraid of other technology. Sure, as of now, the 5870 is best, and sure, Nvidia will have a counter to it....

    BUT

The real question is, when it comes down to it, would you rather pay 380ish for the 5870 or 500ish for Nvidia's GTX 300? Its down to your choice......

  • yeah gt 300 will be faster but will not be in the same price range ATI cards = best performance price ratio

  • GT300 will demolish 5870. But for now its ATI 5870 which is going to sell like hotcakes. Nvidia need to give a good pricing not like the overpriced launch GT200 series

  • How are you sure? There's NO info on the GT300. No benchmarks, no specs, no reviews, NOTHING.

  • nvidea always waits to see how the ATI cards perform. Then they make a card like 5- 10% faster but alot more expensive.

  • GTX300*

    rumars only...

  • Stats are up

  • Two days ago Nvidia released the official GT300 spec's and unveiled the GT300 die. As for the actual card, Nvidia only showed off a dummy card which was non-functional. Spec's # 3.0 billion transistors # 40nm TSMC # 384-bit memory interface # 512 shader cores [renamed into CUDA Cores] # 32 CUDA cores per Shader Cluster # 1MB L1 cache memory [divided into 16KB Cache - Shared Memory] # 768KB L2 unified cache memory # Up to 6GB GDDR5 memory # Half Speed IEEE 754 Double Precision
  • Although it does seem that this is aimed at work stations etc.

ATI still may hold the top gaming card for a while.

Especially if Nvidia don't introduce something till Q1 next year.

  • Yes, the Tesla version will have 6GBs of GDDR5 while the standard will have 1.5GBs of GDDR5.

Nvidia has stated that it will be a late 09 release but, I'm sure they will be of a limited supply.

I won't be buying one until Q1 of 010 anyhow as current games have grown stale.

  • GT300?? wtf its GTX 300...... ima go ahead and call a shanangians on ya u fucking liar!!

  • There's no such thing as a GTX 300.

GT300 is just the product code name.

Geforce 100 will be the official name of the card when released.

They've done away with the GTX naming scheme.

  • its actually just g300

  • No GT300 is correct, it has several code names it also goes by as NV70 and the most recent which is Fermi

  • the name they print on the core was g200 for the 200 series, so most likely the product codes will be g300 on the new chips..

  • Why do people care if the gtx 295 is a dual gpu? If it is still around the same price range that is all that matters. Saying "it's a dual gpu" So? That's like saying a dual core is better than a single core. However the perfomrrance gains are not worth the cost so a 5870 is a better buy.

  • dont forget tht a gtx 295 produces more heat and drinks electricty like an elephant.

  • .........elephants drink electricity?

  • lol

  • just a metaphor to exagurate how electricly hungry the gtx 295 is

  • I has the 4870 and it's awesome

  • I have the 4890 :)

  • me too :D

  • except im using it with Phenom X3 :P ... so i dont get as many FPs as i would do when i get my Phenom II X4 :P ... oh wells, can max out all my games xD

  • The GTX300 might be better, but it'll have an insane price tag on it.

  • What's the slowest single GPU in the world? lmAo

  • I would assume the first one ever made

  • Which is...? The ATi 1 LOL!

  • i may just annoy people with this but oh well :P

the HD4890 is the fastest single GPU videocard in the market, BUT the HD5870 is the Better performing single GPU videocard in the market.

  • cripes! gtx300!

  • Who the fuck cares?

my 8800GTS 512 play crysis at max with really nice framerates

Considering crysis is the only game that even pushes the power of directx 10 anything past the 8 series should be perfectly fine to play all of todays games at max details

just get the 9800 and be done with upgrading till directx 11 gets more support THEN maybe get an upgrade

think about it, you get the most powerful card....wtf you going to use it for?????

  • I'd say that with the next generation of graphics cards will warrant an upgrade if you still have the 8000 series. The 8000 series though has definitely had a long life time and you really didn't need to run out and upgrade with one of them.

  • maybe the end of 2010 we'll see afew games that'll blow our minds but will need a 200+ series to be able to cope, but till i actually see games that need something more then the 8800, im not going to upgrade.

to be honest, no the 8800 hasn't come to the end of its lifespan till the next gen consoles, afterall most pc games are console titles which then get released on pc

even PC titles don't get much love in terms of graphical potentual

    i can't wait too see crysis 2 :)

  • Yea I understand what you are saying. Graphic quality of games has plateaued for about 4 years in my opinion. The only difference is on some of the cheap effects we get. The only reason I upgraded (4870x2) from 8800GT was that I'd been running the 8800GT for a few years and it was eventually needed 100% fan to keep to cool constantly.

  • "Graphic quality of games has plateaued for about 4 years in my opinion."

I've noticed the same thing. I've always thought it was because of the bad economy. GPU technology didn't really increase much since the G80 either until now (5870 and GT300). I'm hopeful that gaming graphics will be back on track to advance next year with DX11, Windows 7, and the 58xx and GT300 competition.

  • Well, its not just the hardware market that's limiting how realistic/beautiful graphics can become, its also becoming increasingly difficult to come up with solutions that replicate.

  • its the console market thts limitng realistic graphics, ps3 and 360 are still stuck at dx9 and most games come out for consoles which end up bieng dx 9 on pcs aswell.

  • PS3 doesn't use DX9, it uses OpenGL. The 360 also has some DX10 features. Also it's not the console market limiting realistic graphics, it's stupid IGP from companies like Intel that flood and saturate the market that do.

  • 360 doesnt have dx10 it has some games with modofied dx9 to give 1 or 2 dx 10 features and opengl 2 on the ps3 is not much better than dx9

see if consoles fully supported dx10 then all pc ports from the console would have had dx10 capabilities which in turn would have had some nice realistic graphics.

  • more then likely means you overclocked it stressing the core past its limits for long periods of time

i bet best a simple reaplication of thermal paste and a good clean for the card (dust removal) will sort that problem

again, overheating doesn't justify upgrading, graphic limitations and unstable play justify upgrades

my cards been going since it was first released, thats 2 years now and runs perfectly fine still, plays all my games at max and doesn't overheat

  • Nah I don't overclock - anyway, apparently you are just smarter than me. :)

  • I don't know... folding?

  • hey.. do any of you know how to make the 9800 gt a dedicated physx card? cause i have a gtx 260 and a 9800 and i just wanted to try doing that dedicated physx thing.. :D

  • Can someone tell me that i saw two comparisons videos of GTX295 and ATI 5870 and in one 5870 was preforming better while in other 295 was preforming better with the same game i.e. Crysis.

So which one is actually better ?

  • GTX295 sometimes get higher fps.....and it's TWO gpus, sells for $100usd+ more, and uses 100w more power at load.

  • So GTX295 is actually better ??

  • it is faster than the 5870

  • Only SOMETIMES and not by much.

  • GTX295 gives better frame rates, BUT has lots of microstutter. (hard to explain microstutter so please look it up)

  • the gtx295 is dual gpu video card

  • I'm not "comparing" them.. I'm saying out of ALL video cards the GTX295 makes the highest framerates 90% of the time. BUT it has massive microstutter as Trubritar's videos show...... I would prefer the 5870 due to a number of things, #1 being money!

  • yeah i agree, the amount of micro-stutter that the 295 produces is scary, concidering its supposed to be a High end card, i would also go with the 5870 for a number of reasons, 1. money, 2. Excellent performance with no micro-stutter, 3. outperforms the 295 in some games but the performance may increase as drivers are updated.

  • Doesn't it depend on the game you're playing?

  • No. How different cards perform differs from game to game, and in many cases from benchmarking tool to benchmarking tool. However, it is clear that the HD 5870 is currently the fastest single GPU card on the market, simply by dint of it contending with the GTX 295 (a dual GPU card).

  • he is going way over the top with these 5870 vidz

  • Metal, bare in mind he is given these products to give them a DECENT review. If he says oh hey guys, this is the 5870 and by the way it sucks balls. He would never get anything to review

  • Oh come on he's just answering ppl's questions thats all!

  • Even if he makes those questions himself , they are eventually going to help novice users, Now will you please stop complaining that why it rains rather than enjoying it. Get a life !

  • Nobody asked these questions, he just make random easy questions up and he make videos. Partnership with Youtube means that all your videos's views ratings and comments get you paid

  • Even if GTX300 will be faster than HD5870, it will probably cost twice as much, so the 5870 will still be the king.

  • Not exactly, Nvidia and ATI have always been in this position.

If you wanna pay a tonne of money out for an insane video card go Nvidia, or if you wanna pay a Medium amount of cash for a good video card go ATI. This will still be the same for when the GTX 300 is released.

  • i have 2 gts250 they are realy good they are by xfx and they are the 1 GB version :)

  • XFX is awesome with their double lifetime warranty. I'm glad they are doing ATI cards now. I just replaced my R600 with an XFX 4770 and I'm happy with the card (virtually silent) and the bundled goodies for such a low price. I still wish eVGA would do ATI cards too. Their upgrade process is awesome!

  • yea i like ati cards but im just an Nvidia fan more i have 2 systems i built one for my best friend and one for me i have the nvidia cards i have 3 and the other system is running crossfire :)

  • The king for performance/price but not the performance king ;)

  • Why do people ask Rodney such simple questions i'm suprised he has the patience with them?

  • I've always wondered that myself; Hell, I remember a recent Q&A where someone asked what RPM was. That isn't even really a computer question!

  • He seems so happy at his job lol, notice the smile at the end! XD

  • When are the 300 series comming out?

  • bump.

    i wanna know aswell

  • december/january

  • I wouldn't expect them until February.

  • I think the 295 is a bit fasterr tbh, in a lot of bechmarks that is. Either way 5870 is a way better buy.

  • 295 is dual gpu

  • It's a dual gpu, can't be comparable for other single gpu, obvously not fair if it compared to the other single gpu :-P

  • The fastest single gpu for nvidia curently is gtx 285, am i right?

  • Yes.

  • Yes.

  • no, the 5870 is also a single-gpu, and is much faster.

  • I said for NVIDIA, not ATI

  • Did you really get this question or you just post this because you reviewed the 5870?

  • Thats right, FOR NOW. The GT300 will have over 3 million transistors, 512 sharer cores and up to 6 gb GDDR5 mem. It will crush the 5870.

  • You mean 3 BILLION transistors.

  • yes sorry.
