pretty sure they're booming because they arent being hunted, and chances are, their natural predators (besides us, remember, we're just as much as part of the ecosystem as any other animal) have been wiped out by us, and since we're not taking the initiative to balance nature out, since we decided to take over the role of the predators we wiped out, we have to control them. They arent being hunted thanks to domestic production being ramped up in the last 40 years (smithfield farms, for example.)

Only thing to resolve this problem is to allow year round hunting of them. To bad for stupid a** countries that doesn't allow its citizens to own fire arms. But yet the police have theirs. This is a real problem in europe, a lot of land has been abandoned by agriculture and hunting is not popular with the younger generations.I live in rural France and I see them far too often,they kill dogs and will attack people.The males can get really big.

Domesticated pigs are scary enough. The meanest and most dangerous animal on the farm is a sow with piglets. Everyone thinks it's the bull, or something big like that. No, it's that fat, unassuming sow in the sty.
A wild one, oh, I wouldn't even walk in the woods without anything smaller than a 10mm Auto.

@Kriegsarschmann - 45acp handles them just fine. a friend of mine told me that he shot one with a .38 and it bounced off of his skull. he said the boar sat down on his ass, sat still for a minute, literally shook his head to shake the blow off, and then went back into the brush. at least it saved his life. he now keeps full power 158gr flat nose in his .357

Then I also read that the bigger, older and smellier the better - the meat is shipped to Japan where it is a treat - I guess, whatever tickles the taste bud is fine with me. So, it left me wondering, is S. Texas into that? hmm, anyhows, until it changes, I can just sit and watch em'. I could have used the live target practice!!

They are extremely aggressive and will attack you with no provocation except being in the same area. MY state, Missouri has issued a shoot on sight order through the Dept. of Conservation on all Ferrel and wild hogs. No license or permit required. Only when, where the animal was shot, it's sex and approx. weight. Free pork.

It's proven that pigs posesses both self-awareness and cognitive thought abilities. They can distinguish their reflection from another pig, they can also use reflections to navigate there way around a wall to find food reflected on the other side. There are many tests, find some. They're more intelligent than dogs and 6 year old children.

@windmoveswater It's not me saying it. It's the various states departments of conservation. 6 states counting Missouri have posted shoot on sight orders for Ferrel wild hogs. For such extreme action in the face of obvious protest from animal right groups, would suggest to any thinking person, these animals are an extreme threat, yes? Once a breeding population is established, they can double their numbers every six months. As for my career in wildlife , There are plenty of poachers who can.

pretty sure they're booming because they arent being hunted, and chances are, their natural predators (besides us, remember, we're just as much as part of the ecosystem as any other animal) have been wiped out by us, and since we're not taking the initiative to balance nature out, since we decided to take over the role of the predators we wiped out, we have to control them. They arent being hunted thanks to domestic production being ramped up in the last 40 years (smithfield farms, for example.)
