Duck tape was used on ducks. Not the animal, the land to water vehicles. In some places you can actually "Ride the Ducks." They don't move very fast; so they probably aren't used in the military anymore. If they are, they are probably more advanced versions.

I made some really awesome duct tape purses; it's too bad duct tape isn't very strong, and they've all fallen apart.

Interestingly, if you've done HVAC work, you have worked in Ducting. You actually use Aluminum Tape. Metal Tape with a super sticky backing. It bonds to both sides and becomes aerodynamically sound, so... no whistling in the ductwork.
