  • The best ever Superman movie.

  • The Earthquake/Time Reversal scene makes sense. When Superman reversed time, there were now TWO Supermen handling the situation. The first still sent the one missle into space, the other was still handling the situation in California. The first simply had the time and the knowledge to know where Lois was and went back to prevent the aftershocks from killing her. Of course, you never see that there are two Supermen doing this, but you have to accept that going back in time would cause this.

  • @LedWhisky69 The hole Earthquake/Time Reversal makes no sense at all, If Sup's is fast enough to spin the World backwards then hes fast enough to stop 2 Missiles. Plus if the Earth was to stop spinning we'd all become weightless and fly of the face of the earth...lol, because of zero gravity which would happen in this scenario

  • @SuperKendall83 1.) The missles contained "the new low-level avoidance systems". This is explained clearly in the film and, in a deleted scene, the missle completely avoids Superman. 2.) Superman had never flown nearly that fast before, I don't think he even knew yet that he could. Because of the death of Lois, he was able to summon up an incredible amount of energy not unlike an adrenaline rush to us. 3.) If the Earth stopped spinning, we would not become weightless. That's a myth.

  • Don't question it, just believe.

  • I'm disappointed that there is know part 3 to Superman the movie ! ...or at least I can't find it on youtube ....I would really like to see it ! ....you're great , at your commentary , editing ...that's what you do ! ...and you do it well ! ... I hope you keep on doing it ! ...thanks !

  • nice job in critical thinking. I like the inconsistencies parts. Good editing! I appreciate your analysis! As you said, still the greatest!

  • I do really love this movie, it was responsible for a lifelong love of superheroes and whatever, but man, that reversing the Earths rotation to turn back time shtick, I don't care what anyone says... That was awful and still irritates me to this day.

  • I think he has a pocket inside his cape that his clothes go into.

    This movie's ending is retarded.

  • Great, insightful stuff. The only thing I disagree with is your take on Superman turning back time. There is no indication that he went back to stop the missles. His goal was to go get to the point when Lois was in danger. In fact, the first thing we see after the rotation of the world has been righted is Lois' car just out of gas. The only inconsistency in my interpretation is that her car never gets swallowed up & Jimmy is suddenly there...much more forgivable flubs for a cleaner wrap-up.

  • @brianinlaca Yep - I was thinking the same thing. Supes just saved lois with the turn back time thing. Didn't go back far enough to stop the missles.

  • @brianinlaca Lois's car is never swallowed up because the Superman that came back to get her prevented the aftershocks. You don't see this in the film, but you have to assume he went underground to stop them just like he was able to reseal the San Andreas fault. Also, notice that he says, "There's something I have to do..." and then gets out of there quickly. You know why? Because there's still a second Superman in California...the one who hasn't yet gone up in space to reverse time. Paradox?

  • I really like your commentaries for the other films that you've done, but this one is exceptionally intuitive! Well done, thank you! I'm going to watch the other ones that you've done.

  • It is not nitpicking to point out that this film is completely illogical in its plot. Besides the fact that turning back the Earth, physically, should result in it's destruction more surely than any earthquake, the problem of the two missiles is magically whisked away. And, as you say, even that isn't handled with any decree of skill. This film was the first big (and overspent) budget super-hero film but the fact is, take away the great soundtrack and you're left with a wholly forgettable joke.

  • my name is otis lol

  • Another great chapter, I used to always watch this movie when I was young.

  • I'd agree with your interpretations about the time reversal inconsistencies, etc. Haven't seen the Director's Cut of Superman II, but was the idea that the events of the entire 2nd movie are erased and time starts again with Superman and Lois near the end of Superman The Movie? I can't really ever see anyone doing a better job than Reeve - just as Errol Flynn is always associated with Robin Hood.
