I actually met Bill at a tournament when I was a little kid taking Karate classes many years ago. I even got to 'spar' with him. He's not just a great fighter, but a great human being. Great showman, but with a really good heart too. It was definitely one of the highlights of my martial arts experience to meet someone like that in person. Have been and always been one of his biggest fans :D
This is classic superfoot behavior. I went to college with him and spent several years watching him train and spar around Memphis Tennessee in 1970's. Great fun to be around, always joking and humble, but when he got serious in training, and when he competed - He was unstoppable. Fastest Hook-Roundhouse kick combo in the world and he could do it for hours. Superior left hook also. Loved to eat hamburgers also.
Bill reminds me of a quote Sean Connery once made about Wesley Snipes, after they starred together in Rising Sun: "He can get his feet into places where I can't even get my hands." Bill's certainly a consistently good kicker.
he is still cool. i have seen older pictures of him in the 70´s in real fights where instead of boxing gloves they wore 6 oz karate gloves. i worked out with one of his student friends that was an incredible fighter that said Wallace was that bad and awesome. it was almost impossible to not get kicked by him. as far as fighting a thai boxer, if he could block the leg kick he would rip it up. Thai boxers come straight in and do get hit. he would pick them apart.
@DaBhaalspawn Now that we think of it, a lot of Bill Wallace's top fights were broadcast on national TV (we think it was ABC). This was before the home video era so probably nobody has a video they taped off the air. Where is the original footage now and who owns it?
@MartialArchiveTv I know a guy who attended one of his seminars in Toledo, and was demo partner for Bill. He told me that when Wallace's kicks shot up near his face he could feel the power and the whipping wind. Wallace downplays his power - but it is there.
No. Not in any official fight. Though I believe hes sparred with plenty of different kboxers including thai and jap. It wasnt until 90s (by his own admnission) he could 'cope' with leg kicks in sparring, that being banned in pka. I still think Bill was the best middleweight in any code. His ring movement and left hook were superior to any other mid weight in my opinion, even now.
I would loved for it to have been Bill vs Bruce, rather than Chuck Norris. I respect Chuck, but the fight scene would've been more legendary if Bill was there.
I would love to see a man of that caliber kicking in MMA. Chuck Liddell-like takedown defense, and you have a huge PPV draw. The highlight reel would dwarf Cro-Cop's.
His kicks were nasty. I think he retired from Contact Karate undefeated.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at a seminar he was generous enough to host. I loved every second of it and it was very educational.

Finding footage of Bill's fights is next to impossible.
Were any of those kicks more than "just for show"?
I mean, did they knock people out? Because they look more like "taps" than kicks.
I have no idea though.
DaBhaalspawn 1 year ago 2
@DaBhaalspawn Those were just taps as that was a "comedic sparring demo". Believe us, when he wanted to, those kicks were hard.

@MartialArchiveTv
I can see that, but I just can't find any good footage of his kicks.
Thanks for the answer.

If I were a betting man. I'd say you'd have to go looking in the archives of whoever recorded and documented his fights.

@MartialArchiveTv I think networks reused tapes and taped over most stuff... it's a shame.
